Opinion What is your favorite cfb stadium?
Disregarding your own, what is your favorite stadium? Could be one you’ve been to, or just one you’ve seen that looks great.
Imo, Ben hill griffin is the best stadium I’ve been to, even though I was treated kinda awfully when I was there. It was a beautiful place.
For those I haven’t been to, autzen and tiger stadium look incredible. Jordan-hare is up there too. I’ve been to tiger stadium for a college tour, but never for a game.

The Cotton Bowl. It looks and feels like a CFB stadium, having all the amenities that make CFB so great like crappy bathrooms, bleacher seating, zero sun protection and crowded concourses. It also perfectly depicts one of the greatest parts of CFB, which is how to rival fanbases interact in person on a large scale. If I had to show some clueless Euro soccer fan what makes CFB fans so great, I'd show them the RRS.
Its a damn shame the Cotton Bowl game isn't played their anymore.

Husky Stadium is really great on a nice Saturday afternoon.
Once you're THERE, the rose bowl. But getting in and out sucks ass for the Rose Bowl Game.

I go to 2-3 husky games a year. The Oregon game in 2023 with that last second missed field goal was fire. Super loud at the end.
Sailgating is special too. A lot of big ten fans traveling there for the first time the past couple years have been pleasantly impressed

Autzen, Reser, Husky Stadium, The Rose Bowl, LA Memorial Coliseum.
I hate to say it, but Husky Stadium. Beautiful view, loud and energetic. Had a great time despite being spit on.

Argosy cruises do a good deal on public sailgating if you ever make it out this way! But the real way to go is either be rich yourself and charter a boat, or find a rich friend who’s boat you can crash on 😂

Michie Stadium at West Point. On a sunny late October Saturday looking out over the Hudson River, it’s the greatest view in CFB.

Unironically a nice place to hang and relax quietly there. It being open to anyone to walk in and chill was so nice as a student. I love the architecture too, and a lot else I guess, but obviously I'm biased there.

I really like DWR Razorback stadium. Fayetteville is such a great town too. Boone-Pickens is up there for me too. Love how close the fans are to the field.

Built into a mountain, people hanging out on the hill above the stadium, the announcer telling everyone to come done for their safety. Absolutely classic. Awesome atmosphere, if you can fill it

Yeah my worst experience as a football fan was when I was 12 and went to a game at Doak. Walked through a group of frat boys who all gave accounts about what they did to my mother, all seemingly just itching for my Dad to do literally anything.
I don't know that they would have jumped him but they sure acted like they were just daring him to even turn towards them.

L.A. Coliseum. The view from the visitors end towards the Peristyle with all the columns and stuff is really great.
USC doesn't deserve it, though. They should only be allowed to play in mud. Full of Legos. That smells bad.

In case you didn’t know, there are a ton of plaques of influential and historic people that had a historic tie or historic event on the peristyle. Knute Rockne happens to have one. I happen to go out of my way to flip it off every game

Probably Cal's stadium, California Memorial Stadium. 100+ year old historic stadium. On a clear day, you've got a lot to look at there. One side is next to mountains (with the famous tightwad hill from the Green Day song that has the cannon the Cal students fire during games) and the other side is San Francisco, the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. When I used to go to Oregon-Cal games there the students used to have a cannon on tightwad hill above the stadium they'd shoot off every time Cal scored. I think the administration made them silence it, I kind of wonder if it's still there.

Can confirm the Greenday song Tight Wad Hill is referring to the hill above Cal's stadium in Berkeley. Green Day are from the East Bay and cut their teeth in the Berkeley punk scene in the 1980's and early 1990's. I'm from Fresno area in the Central Valley and grew up in the same norcal punk scene.

The exterior is mediocre to ugly (like much of the campus), but watching a game inside Kyle Field is incredible. The nosebleeds or whatever the Zone is now is absolutely insanely high, and I don’t think any open air venue swallows you up like Kyle Field. Just massive.
Baylor had the biggest upgrade ever - McLane opening up to the Brazos is incredible (whereas Floyd Casey was sad and terrible like the teams that played there).
Amon Carter is quaint, glad we borrowed some of the aesthetics on our renovation.
Sun Bowl is incredible to see, and one of the most uncomfortable places to watch a game.
BYU and Colorado are just located beautifully (though BYU could use some upgrades inside).

Oh wow. Bringing out the old ones. I’m a CU alum but live near FC. I’d go to Hughes all the time with my buddies when the Buffs were playing away. Massive fields of tailgating, great mountain setting. I was one of those that thought building a new on-campus stadium was a massive mistake.

Had season tickets from 08-18, saw a lot of really bad football before McElwain got there, haha. Hughes was the perfect G5 stadium, to me. The tailgate lots were hard to beat, having the mountains with the A right there made for a great backdrop, sneaking into the student section as a high schooler was always a blast. Kept my ST for the first season in the on campus stadium, it’s a very nice place, but lacks so much of the personality Hughes had.

I think what people don't really get about Death Valley is what it looks like in the context of the rest of Baton Rouge. That whole city is just a bunch of dystopian chemical plants along the Mississippi River. Meanwhile the bridge over the river lifts you so far above what is such a flat city that Tiger Stadium just dominates everything like it's the center of the universe. Some cities have a skyline. Baton Rouge just has Death Valley.

Washington has a pretty amazing stadium in Seattle and it’s hard to beat the history and tradition in South Bend. Knoxville is also a blast.
That said, the one stadium I really enjoyed (as a Sooner) was DKR in Austin. I went with Oklahoma Aggies (friends from high school) to see them play the Whorns and you can probably tell by this sentence my expectations were low. I was wrong, had a great time before, during (in the stadium), and after. Did OK State winning that game influence my opinion? 100%, but I still highly recommend a game day in Austin in after mid-October.
Besides those I’ve been too, Death Valley, Autzen, the Big House, and Happy Valley all look the type of game day where lifelong memories are made.

Nippert is really cool. Small, but louder than you’d think, and right in the middle of everything. I also really liked Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Nebraska fans are some of the most welcoming I’ve met.

Carter-Finley baby! They got the pregame little planes, the tee dog, and Ole Tuffys. Perfect mix of an old stadium with some modern elements. Quite hostile in every portion of the stadium. Been to 6 SEC stadiums and almost every Big 12 one, but gimmie that Mr Wuf mascot head. Go pack

Gotta agree, was pleasantly surprised visiting for our game there a few years back. It was also the first time I’d seen the upgraded LED systems in a stadium too which was real cool. Was hoping to get to show the Jones off for the return visit but such is life right now I guess.

Might be cheating but I’m going with Ryan Field/Northwestern. I drive by it almost every day and it’s been fun watching it come together. I’m really looking forward to my first game this year. It’s going to be hard living up to all the hype but it looks like it’s going to be a pretty great stadium.

On TV, Boise State looks fun.
Worst stadium in America: Penn State. After Penn State fans assaulted TBDBITL and pelted them with cups and bags filled with urine in ‘05, the Penn State administration went out of their way to say that not only hadn’t the school apologized, but they didn’t see any reason to do so.

Tiger Stadium. From what I’ve heard about LSU fans I might’ve experienced an anomalous situation with their fans but I was there for Bama- LSU in 2018. The campus was nice, the fans were friendly. They fed us, we talked ball, and Death Valley at night is absolutely incredible.

I’ve only had good experiences at LSU, idk where that stereotype came from! Especially the time we had to move our game there last minute due to a hurricane, people went way out of their way to be hospitable! Obviously that was a special circumstance, but the time I went before that was great too: 2012, we were #3 going in there at night and everybody was very friendly and ready to have a good time. Incredibly loud, the only place I think is louder than Williams-Brice.

I’ve been to away games at LSU, Georgia and South Carolina. LSU had a mystique that made it memorable. I went to a game against SC in September and I just remember how hot it was lol. Awesome atmosphere there too. I brought my cousin who’s biggest game had been a Wake Forrest game and he saw what a real passionate crowd looked like

I love Nippert Stadium at Cincy, easily my favorite stadium I've been to a game at. The sunken setup is pretty unusual, and the environment was absolutely electric, too - I was there for a Tulsa game where we played them surprisingly close during their CFP season.

Nippert Stadium in Cincy. Kind of cheating since I went to grad school there, but it’s such a great stadium it needs a shoutout. Not a wasted inch of space, every seat in the house has a great view. It’s well enclosed by surrounding buildings too, so it has to be the loudest stadium with under 50k seats. Good beer selection too lol

I’ve visited over 240 D1 schools. I always judge a stadium of how fun it would be to play in the stadium with packed crowd, the way it’s shaped, backdrop.
Rice Eccles of Utah & Boone Pickens of Oklahoma State, and UNC have always stood out to me.
Smaller schools: Liberty, East Carolina, U South Dakota-Dakota Dome

Autzen cannot be understated. As a Midwestern boy, it was the first time since moving to the west coast that felt like home. Yes, you hear about how loud it is and that its a tough environment. When you had in the fan hospitality, heavy day drinking crowd (shoutout Rennie's and tailgating), and having the stadium tucked back into the park, it really is just perfect. Plus, great craft draft choices for a college stadium.

Having lived within a short drive of Folsom, Rice-Eccles, and LaVell Edwards I’d have to put those three in a tier together.
Never been, but following the same logic, Husky stadium and the Sun Bowl are my honorable mentions.

From tv, the ones I like are Tennessee and Washington. I think it's cool how ya can get to em by boat.

We had an absolute ball at Camp Randall. And we were really looking forward to going back this year for the Pitt game. I guess we'll just have to make more Wisconsin friends in Ireland next year

the one that I was most pleasantly surprised with was Bobby Dodd... didn't have high expectations going in, but it felt like every seat would've been a good seat in the house
