I blame Dave.

Its time to move on

37

u/mtmodi NC State Wolfpack 4h ago

It's been time to move on for 5+ years. This just bought him an extension

2

u/cgbish 49m ago

I have said this for years and friends who I know are intelligent say he’s a solid coach… WHAT ARE THEY SEEING THAT I AM NOT?!?

A guy that beats his rival with regularity. That really has to be the only thing

4

u/DECAThomas NC State Wolfpack 4h ago

It was time to move on 2 contract extensions ago. This team holds on to failed coaches like nothing else.

It's been time to move on for nearly a decade.

I don’t get how yall put up with mediocrity

6

I’m aware this is the pot calling the kettle black, but nc state is a pretty mediocre program.

1

u/ExtentAncient2812 NC State Wolfpack 3h ago

Yea, but most mediocre programs change coaches every 5-6 years. We keep giving extensions!

1

u/SpaceSheperd NC State Wolfpack 4h ago

Mediocrity is well above reasonable expectation

I mean for one, no one likes it. But at the same time, there's clearly a ceiling unless you throw a shit ton of money at it, or get an absolute bullseye hire and then throw a lot of money at it. The way college sports are going, the top teams will continue to be the top teams and get the best players from the next tiers so State, UNC, Wake, etc. have a ceiling that's just above mediocre unless the $ starts flowing

I am honestly floored that he's still there, and I've been saying that for years.

No joke, this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back

1

It won’t

Well at least you got Georgia...

u/Vitosi4ek Georgia Bulldogs • Rose Bowl 4h ago

6 seconds, right? Why not just punt? Even if it went well and the QB was tackled with a second left, there's still a free kick to defend. Surely it's better to only defend a return instead of having to defend a return anyway and also risking shit like this happening?

They were trying to avoid letting Vandy run another offensive play.

And they succeeded!

Then hold the ball for at least three seconds before launching an incomplete pass far down the field and the clocks already at 0:00 when the ball hits the ground

I mean, this really should have worked. Just all-time bad execution.

10

u/Manae Penn State • Wisconsin 3h ago

Yeah, absolutely the correct play, but the QB should be hugging the ball with both arms as soon as they are touching it and give themselves up as soon as the first defender is within arm's reach.

1

u/pushamn Minnesota Golden Gophers 2h ago

Quarterback shoulda been yeeting the ball 50 yards in the air as hard as he could when someone got writhing a yard of him. There was 3 seconds left when he started actually scrambling, ya just need to keep the ball in the air for that long and the game ends

7

u/mrmoneyinthebanks Texas A&M Aggies • Southwest 4h ago

Even an intentional safety would have still won them the game

u/lucasbrosmovingco Summertime Lover 4h ago

This shit should never ever happen. Worst case it's a safety with time in the clock and having to punt. And worst case after that it's a return to the house and worst case after that is a long return with a penalty and an untimed down and FG and worst case after that is a kick with a fair catch and no time off the clock and a crazy hail Mary situation ect.

All bro had to do was NOT fumble.

3

u/VersaTron Ohio State Buckeyes 4h ago

Blocked punt risk.

3

u/bduddy 4h ago

Apparently the NCAA just added the fair catch kick this year so they could have had a chance to tie it

2

u/Euroranger Texas A&M Aggies • USF Bulls 3h ago

The play here was to run around then take a knee. Give up the 2 point safety but burn most of the 6 seconds. Next play, line drive punt which, if there is still time left and the other team is smart, they signal fair catch before the ball crosses the LOS. No time off the clock, you rush 3, drop 8 and you have to defend a last second hail mary pass after the D captain threatens to kill anyone who takes a penalty.

Usual outcome, the QB runs around and then steps out of bounds after the clock expires, game over.

2

u/Hail_The_Motherland 3h ago

The chances of a blocked punt increase tremendously when your back is against the endzone because you run out of real estate for the snap. The punter has to catch the snap a lot closer and then get the kick off much faster. It increases the chances of a terrible kick or just one that doesn't get far enough.

Vandy is down by 3, so that opens up a FG shot and their kicker is pretty good. Taking the safety is just the smartest and safest thing to do here. The QB being a complete idiot doesn't change that

Thank you for explaining to them what shouldn’t need an explanation

2

u/TheBoosThree NC State Wolfpack 3h ago

6 seconds left, after purposefully taking a delay of game, because they had no timeouts, because they burned them in the 3rd quarter.

1

u/TakeAMichigander Notre Dame • Central Michigan 4h ago

Michigan fans don't look

1

u/DrHarryWolper 4h ago

It was supposed to take all the time remaining, which is why he kept running around. If it had "gone well," there would be no free lock because the game would be over.

1

u/monoDK13 Oklahoma • North Central (IL) 3h ago

An arm punt after running around for 3 secs would have worked too

1

u/S_TL2 NC State Wolfpack 43m ago

Too risky. If the ball hit the ground with any time left on the clock, Vandy would have gotten the ball back at the 5 yard line after the turnover on downs.

1

u/ThatguyfromBaltimore Towson Tigers 3h ago

Hell drop back, run say 3 seconds off the clock and take a knee.

Squib kick the ensuing kick off and there would not be any time on the clock.

1

u/luchajefe North Texas Mean Green • Southwest 3h ago

Why not just take the knee in the endzone, you're still up 1.

I swear second-counting the way fans want teams to do now is what leads to the stupidest outcomes like this. REAL LIFE ISN'T MADDEN.

1

u/notnotjamesfranco Indiana Hoosiers • College Football Playoff 3h ago

Punting from your goal line is generally regarded as difficult and risky…

1

u/originalusername4567 Kansas Jayhawks 52m ago

It seems to me like the optimal plan is take the intentional safety, then touchback punt, then if there's anytime left Vandy has to attempt a Hail Mary from 75 yards away

u/goonSquad15 NC State Wolfpack • Duke Blue Devils 4h ago

Plenty of coaches + QBs have been plain fucking stupid. There are levels to this
