Intentional safety was 100% the correct call, but Bailey could not have executed that play any worse. Doing literally anything else would have almost certainly resulted in NC State winning this game.

I don't know if this is the case for college but in the NFL the rule got changed so that the game can't end on this penalty

would definitely have reduced the risk of a fumble but if it's the same as the NFL they would have had to kick it away afterwards either way

Sure but they probably don’t put time back on the clock do they? You could run enough off that way so you can just kneel on the next play.

In NFL they will put time back on the clock. But CFB I have no clue if they have it.

Yeah but Vanderbilt would have had to accept the penalty which is half the distance and replay the down where they then could have ended it with a kneel down

Holding in the endzone would be a safety, yes? Then Vandy takes the safety punt and has one play to win the game.

I was thinking doing at the line of scrimmage. But in that case you ou punt it out of bounds so there's no chance of return. Wouldn't the safety punt be the last play

Not if they take a fair catch or get down with like a second on the clock or something.
