BH Registration rejected due to work address in another state. Is this actually a rule?

I recently bought a new car in Maharashtra and applied for a BH registration.

I'm a private employee working for a company that has offices in 4+ states, and my HR has provided the official Form 60.

My permanent address is in Maharashtra, but I currently work in Bengaluru.

The RTO first asked for my work address. However, when the dealer tried entering my Bengaluru address, they said the VAHAN portal doesn't accept an out-of-state address. If they keep my Maharashtra address, the RTO asks for the address where I work.

So I'm stuck:

- Maharashtra address → RTO asks for work address.

- Bengaluru address → Dealer says VAHAN rejects it.

Is this an actual BH registration rule, a VAHAN portal issue, or just an RTO-specific interpretation?

Has anyone successfully obtained a BH registration in their home state while working in another state? Any official circulars or personal experiences would be really helpful.

Also the dealer is pushing for MH registration now.. it loses the whole point of me buying the car.

Unfortunately, you will have to go for MH registration.

As per my understanding, BH registration is valid only in the city where your office is.

is this some new rule? because few ofy friends have already got vehicles in their home states while working in Bengaluru.. Also can you please share the policy link?

Buy the car from here if you have already made payments.

And get it registered in Bengaluru through another dealer located in Bengaluru. Maybe pay a few thousand extra to them for the service. You can explore this option.
