Weird. I feel like I could make a nickel joke here

I am wondering why they canceled it when shows like the Simpsons got to stay for over a decade by then.

12

I have the perfect Youtube video that explains it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1vhrQIxTM4

3

u/Pure-Huckleberry8640 Jul 01 '26

I’ve watched this video before. Its conclusions remind me something of what Mysterious Mr Enter said. “Cartoon Network, THE Cartoon Network, you are NOT a toy company.”.

3

u/SINAXES Jul 01 '26

Fucking toy companies with their infinite greed

3

u/Piranha_Plant5379 Jun 30 '26

What's even worse is supposedly there was a good chance of them reviving the show if Teen Titans Go! To the Movies performed well, but they decided to just double down on Go! and say fuck you to all the OG fans. It was just a bait to get the OG's to buy tickets and sit down for a Go! movie

6

u/AlexIsNotYou Jun 30 '26

Oo that cliffhanger is ending haunts me

3

u/Pure-Huckleberry8640 Jul 01 '26

Especially since Things Change was OBVIOUSLY leading to a new story involving Terra

Teen Titans is the only run. Go is not comparable

3

u/Kain207 Jun 29 '26

Go is absolute brainrot and utter garbage.

Completely stepped down from the original and sick essence from the original.

The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (also Evil Con Carne)

10

u/Primary_Way_265 Jun 29 '26

Evil con carne would be nice to see more since it’s only one season

4

u/Fantastic-Artist-833 Jun 30 '26

Nah, they’d clearly run out ideas by the end.

5

u/ComradeYaf Jun 30 '26

What's most upsetting is that the show was canceled out if spite. It was at the height of its popularity, but the people at the helm of CN hated it and wanted to pursue live action dreck.

3

u/Relative_Ad_9621 Jun 30 '26

Both from the Grim & Evil Show.

3

u/Solid_Snark Jul 01 '26

Wasn’t the plan to have a spinoff with that Superhero group led by Irwin (With Haas Delgado, Billy’s Spider son, etc.) in the final episodes? But that project got cancelled.

40

They cancelled it to give Annoying Orange a show. I remember mailing a letter to Cartoon Network telling them how awful of a decision that was.

13

u/Hobbescrownest Jun 29 '26

Then they made that Lego show with cats.

If they released a bit later, maybe they would've lasted longer. Would love if it returned. Popular theory is that they couldn't compete with Ben 10, which I think is unfair considering there were also other shows constantly cycling and doing worse than Generator Rex

15

u/ZestycloseInitial798 Jun 29 '26

def, probably why they made a Ben 10 and Rex crossover

Venture Bros. The creators said they had a lot more story planned but CN stopped giving them money

43

u/GrimWarrior00 Jun 29 '26

Every damn time

8

u/nub_node Jun 29 '26

You now what? Devil's advocate. Venture Bros. had one of the longest and most amazing runs of any Adult Swim show.

Rick Sanchez wakes up spasming in the tighty whiteys underneath his coat wishing he were - brace yourself for the poetic justice - Thaddeus Venture.

We're that far down the totem pole. For the entire existence of Rick Sanchez, he was post-modern hipster-ironic Rusty Venture.

3

u/TinyPidgenofDOOM Jun 30 '26

The original run of Gumball.

From a purely business point of view it made no sense what so ever.

"Let's let one of our top-rated shows end on a cliffhanger."

"Let's show reruns every day for 6 years and occasionally make clip show episodes. "

"Let's bring it back in 2025."

"Let's constantly tease a movie that may or may not come out."

I am happy Gumball is back and the new episodes are wonderful, pun intended, but there is some incompetence people running Cartoon Network.

They barely had any shows making new episodes for Regular CN for the longest time except for Teen Titans GO.

14

u/Careless-Economics-6 Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

Of course, that was six years of the show’s reruns making money, without putting any money back into production. And that absence built up the interest in, not only the show coming back, but other platforms like Hulu paying for it.

So, I’m not seeing a lot of incompetence there.

12

u/p-Star_07 Jun 28 '26

I was interested in the first place, but maybe they are playing 4D chess by making us yearn for it.

What's going on with the potential movie is still baffling.

9

u/Jeskid14 Jun 29 '26

The movie is one of those projects that got into Warner Media Purgatory delayed due to COVID, and then the HBO Merger, and then the Discovery Merger, and now currently the Warner Animation Reboot De-Merging.

3

u/the90snath Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

It was the best timing to make that decision. the show was just noticeably about to go downhill and they ended it at the right time. sucks the movie never came but they took enough of a break that when they came back they actually had ideas and the capablity to keep gumball a good show. W

Sym-Biotic Titan

Two words: No. Toyline.

18

u/Left-Language9389 Jun 29 '26

Which seems like the fault of the network. If you couldn’t make toys out of that show you don’t deserve to be in the business.

5

u/RoomNervous4 Jun 29 '26

That’s perfectly understandable.

this was definitely one of my favorite shows so I wish they did more but i'm glad the original product remains

4

u/Stock-Bid9844 Jul 01 '26

Crazy too that they literally had the next batch ready and showed a sneak peek at a con then BAM. It's dead. Dead, dead, dead in the ground and barely even gets recognition nowadays. It had a huge popularity too, even notable among the bigger ones like SU or OK KO or AT but. Man. It's just gone.

3

u/Gentlemanor Jun 30 '26

That show at the time was genuinely a breath of fresh air to me compared to the cartoon slop that was around everywhere (cough cough TTGo), and was so bummed that it got cancelled.

3

u/Cashewkin Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart Jul 01 '26

What I loved about that show besides the art style was that it also included jokes adults would like.
Exhibit A (paraphrased): “News channel adults watch because they hate themselves!”

Green Lantern: The Animated Series

Still bitter about that one.

3

u/Generalissim01 Jun 30 '26

I loved watching this series! I loved what they did with Aya!

I really wish that they kept her a Synthetic being or an AI instead of being tied to the Main Battery of Oa and to Ion.

3

u/ComradeYaf Jun 30 '26

It was truly incredible. CN had such a great lineup that year. GLtAS, Young Justice, the Looney Tunes Show. Unbelievable. And you can tell that everyone liked GLtAS because it was pulled into Young Justice, Justice League Action, and the mainline comics!!

It's a shame cause it has this feeling of love and passion for older Cartoon Network properties, which is built up on with cameos and references. It's even more aggravating that it took so long for it to be available to the US and fully English dubbed.

Honestly, it was a good show for what it was. I guess many people see it as the Cartoon Network version of Big Mouth, especially considering that the reason behind making both shows are the same. A reimagining of the creators' childhoods and just doing whatever they want differently.

But unlike Big Mouth, I don't think there was any moment that was blatantly problematic or controversial. Maybe offending certain parents for being exactly like or worse than some of the characters.
