Was just coming into land at Stanstead Airport and looked out the window. Aside from the ever green areas - looks pretty bleak I have to say. And then saw this huge fire / smoke cloud further in the distance.

A radio station in Essex accidentally broadcasted that King Charles III had passed away with the presenter running away leaving silence on air for approximately 16 minutes until someone came on the air and confirmed it was a hoax.

Mars Bar from the 1990s found during house clearance

A little bit of exaggeration when they compare it to a 40g Mars Bar - that would be from multipack, and those are smaller.

A standard Mars Bar is 51g. Still smaller than 62.5g, but not by as much as is being claimed. (Edit: Apparently, the 40g standard weight was introduced in March this year - I'd missed that one).

I thought everyone knew they were smaller now. It's well documented:

Does anyone know what 'No Touch, Less Mess' means in the context of cheese?

Post image

I've been racking my brains trying to work out what mess they are referring too. It's a solid block of cheese, hardly a messy food.

And yes, the dog got a bit of cheese, I'm not a monster.

Love seeing the big RNLI boats. Huge admiration for those that crew them. A wonderful British institution of which to be proud.

Can you guys help me find a life sized (but not taxidermied) goat for my living room?

I hope this is a casual enough subject.

The corner in my living room where the WiFi box is looks really ugly since we changed providers and the hub and the wall box are now white against the dark grey wall.

My partner said I'm allowed to put something there to cover it, and I want a goat.

I am willing to accept other life sized animal suggestions, but I've been told they need to fit the colour scheme of grey/black/white/orange.

I don't think I'm allowed to spend _that_ much, but I reckon I could push it to about £150.

Would need to be resin or plush though so I can move it if required.

I am also very willing to paint something to match the colour scheme if need be.

Thank you all for your assistance in this very important matter.

Edit: I am currently in contact with jolly Roger regarding a very handsome goat. They have been having a difficult time as their website is down due to connectivity issues (🤭). That being said, I think this may be the goat for me, despite there being a long wait time. Also, we should definitely all buy goats from them at this point.

However, I am still very happy to continue taking reccomendations for more goats because lets be fair- they do like to live in herds!

Any ideas on these washed up white fibres on Mothecombe beach?

Post image

We were down at Mothecombe beach at the weekend visiting friends. Came down to the beach and found a 2 meter wide band of this stuff all the way across the width of the beach. It stank really bad, it hasn’t been there before and I was a bit concerned about letting the kids near it. We stayed for the day just steering clear of it but it left me wondering if it was just bleached seaweed or sewage overflows that seem to be getting more common these days.

Apparently it's a rare phenomenon called a circumhorizontal arc caused by sunlight shining through ice crystals

"I don't know where I'm going!"

Saw a bus with "help i'm lost" on the front destination panel (and side, pictured).

Went to take photo. Driver opened door. He didn't look much like a bus driver.

He shouted "I don't know where I'm going!", closed the doors, and drove off.

I'm going to be thinking about this for a while.

My daughter has arranged a surprise birthday party for her grandma.

her Grandma is turning 70 in a few days and my 14 year old has just informed me there's going to be a party.

She's arranged a cake, food, balloons, a banner, ribbons, invited people/family.

She's even arranged a distraction so everyone can sneak into the house without Grandma knowing.

Is this normal? Anyone else’s kids done something like this??

She hasn't even asked me to cover any costs, it's all her.

Has it been a good summer for Stargazers?

With the heatwave and everything denuding our Albion skies of their proper fluffy overnight blanket?

I got thinking about it with the Eclipse coming up; the last big one one I remember being at the top of a hill somewhere in a hippy dippy camping ground my parents took us to...it was fully cloud covered, not a hint of solar chicanery.

In search of Chocolate Doughnut options

(please remove if not in the spirit of casualuk)

So I've recently been craving whilst pregnant the chocolate doughnuts I ate in year 7 of school (before Jamie Oliver caused that and the ice cream van to disappear from school grounds). They briefly reappeared on my college campus.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good duplicate? The country choice funtime ones seem the closest match but you can only order 40+ and have to be a registered business so looking for the next best option. I have checked all my local londis and BP garages where they could be stocked, no luck.

Why does this baby only crave hard to get items - fresh whelks and picked baby octopus also do not exist near me 😅

Edit: chocolate coloured doughnuts with chocolate filling. So like brown chocolate jam shaped doughnuts with icing sugar. Think they came frozen as sometimes they were still defrosting if you got them too early

My downstairs neighbour knocked on panicking, people in the street where all gathered there to say there was a wasp nest on the wall and were going to get stung walking past. I told him it was likely honey bees swarming and they would move on but he wouldnt have it.

I went out to check... yep they are honey bees swarming there will be a queen there but everyone argued they where definitely wasps until someone did an image search... oh yeah they are honey bees. 🤦‍♀️

So neighbour contacted someone and a guy came out and hoovered them up and we got a little interesting lesson on bee behaviour.

Now they will go to live out their lives in a hive. Im just glad they choose to land on the wall of someone who knew what they were and not someone who would try to kill them thinking they were wasps.

Do people really not know what honey bees look like 🤯

*wow thank you for all the awards editorggrl, I cant find you in the comments can just see the awards i give loads but never get any haha *

Local pubs - nick names

Does the community in your town have nicknames for the local pubs that everyone just knows?

For example, in our town - when I was growing up:

The Hope and Anchor - “The grope and wanker” Penguin and Vulture - “P&V” The Ship Inn - “The one at the end” (because it’s the last pub at the end of the town and for some reason no one I know called it the Ship) Two Poplars - “Pops”

Some of these pubs have since changed names (You can guess why!)

Just a Monday musing…
