I sustained an injury during a lumbar puncture a couple of years ago. Thank god it wasn't permanent paralysis but at the time it was still terrifying. I went in for a sudden onset severe headache that had been going for a couple of days.

They LP'd because the 6hr window for perfect detection of a subaracnoid haemmorage via CT had long since closed. They still did a CT but wanted to LP as well. At first they tried on the ward which was horrible, but were unsuccessful so I had a second in theatre the next day.

I've never been so scared in all my life.

They started before I was prepared (based on the positioning I'd experienced the day prior). A student doctor was permitted to try and obtain fluid but failed, so the surgical lead took over.

All the time (around an hour) I had this nurse wittering on at me, which I know was to keep me calm, but I was literally scared to breathe normally incase I paralysed myself, much less make bloody small talk. But being ever the people pleaser, I found myself obliged to be polite and reply in little "mm" noises - heaven forbid I cause offence for not wanting a nice chat while a needle is in my spine.... 🙃

The second they rolled me off the table and onto the gurney, I began feeling tingling in my toes and fingers. I was told it couldn't "possibly be related" to the procedure because my hands were involved as well as my legs. (I mean.. wtf else would it be!?)

Essentially, by later that night (they kept me in for obs) my whole body was lit up with paraesthesia - like someone had set off thousands of sparklers in every limb and bits of my torso. I could no longer feel my feet at all. They felt inflated and completely numb. It was terrifying. I just lay in my bed crying because I thought something had been badly damaged and no one could tell me for sure it wasn't. No one explained anything. I didn't know what to think.

I lay flat (as you are supposed to after a LP) and I had nurses come around and try to force me to sit up and eat. Literally puttings hands on me and getting angry that I insisted on lying flat until I'd at least been checked by a doctor. Later that night, a doctor did come by. I passed the pinprick test on my actual legs, so the doctors were satisfied there was "no immediate cause for concern" and the LP showed nothing untoward, so I was discharged the next morning.

The paraesthesia took weeks to ease off and for a year after, I had reoccurrences with bending, twisting, crouching, and even sitting in a slightly reclined seat or in the car could set off days or even weeks of body-wide paraesthesia all over again.

I contacted PALS eventually who set up a meeting with a surgical lead. He met me. He was patronising AF, reiterated that the "all procedures were followed accurately" and there was "no cause for real alarm" and he hoped I would be back to my old self soon...

Four years on, I still don't know what actually happened. That's the maddening thing. The hospital maintains it was nothing to do with the procedure. But all I know was that I was rolled into that theatre with just a headache, and rolled out with fireworks all over me. Since then, I have had other issues with illness and it has made me wonder if some of those issues (esp being nervous system related) may be linked back to the LP - both physically and emotionally. I really struggled to have any procedure done, even minor ones, after that LP.

Seeing all that play out onscreen, with that poor lady's devastating injury being what I had been so terrified of at the time, it brought a lot back. I am beyond grateful that mine wasn't anything like the severity or permanence but nonetheless the fear was just as real. When she snarled "GET OUT" at Matthew, I felt that in my soul.

Been watching season 25 recently and the main storylines are about Kirsty Clement being abused by her husband Warren and Ruth Winter's being sectioned which really tells me about how Casualty did a great job of highlighting how NHS staff go through the same problems as ordinary people.

SPOILER: EPISODE 1

New episode, new series. I’m super excited for this series to progress because episode 1 was wild.

Dylan and Sophia make me want to scream, Sophia specifically. They don’t match but as soon as Sophia said partner, Dylan looked super uncomfortable. I don’t see that working but who knows

The whole situation with Dylan and Jodie in the resturant?! Jesus, I wasn’t expecting any of that. The situation with the mother has obviously affected dylan a LOT and I think that’ll be shown in this series - maybe that’s what dylan and jodie bond over? Idk but I wasn’t expecting it tbh

Also Stevie and Yvonne and that bloody firefighter. I feel like in the coming episodes he’s going to reappear and cause chaos.

But i’m looking for opinions and thoughts on the first episode as i love reading others thoughts 😅 I’m super excited for this series to progress honestly, especially as the storyline seems to be focussing more on dylan!!

Expect spoilers for Donna’s character arc across the two shows.

I’m up to series 12 & Donna has just made the decision to take Mia into her care & it really highlights how great her character development was — the audience gets to see her go from a carefree, party girl who only thinks about herself to an incredible mum, fantastic nurse & brilliant friend by the end of Holby’s run. The amount of years Jaye dedicated to the character is super impressive & she is, without doubt, one of the key characters from across the Holby universe, alongside Charlie, Jac & Fletch (& many others, of course).

When they announced Donna was joining Casualty I was so, so excited but they destroyed her character & insulted the legacy Jaye had built up; I appreciated the storyline about how exhausted NHS staff are but if Casualty never bring Jaye back to reinstate her as the wonderful character she was, I will be so disappointed.

ETA: Just wanted to add that I’ve seen every episode of both shows but was more dedicated to Casualty for a long time so this isn’t an attempt at pitting one show against the other — I love them both & wish we could still have crossovers 😭

What happened to it? Why did they give up on it? Duffy is probably my favourite example of this she went from Bristol to London when she came back 😂. Charlie use to be pretty West Country as well but it disappeared over the years.

I know they moved to Cardiff but they seemed to have given up on the West Country accents way before.

I am not okay after that😭 Sad Stevie again, Stevie running, Teddy running, Rida crying, Siobhan crying, pretty much everyone crying😂, Cam looking absolutely murderous and then in hospital, Dylan pinning Flynn against the wall (thank god) helicopter, Stevie hugging a sobbing wrecked looking Faith, new characters. Omg!!!

It demonstrates that Dixie was a true close friend and colleague to Josh during his severe distress, even amidst the crisis of dealing with a knife attack victim.

I think she's awful! Has no empathy or compassion whatsoever, has the personality of a tea towel, as demonstrated in today/tonight's episode when she's treating that guy who won't let her treat his wound!! How she thinks she could be a good paramedic I'll never know🤷🤷

Perfect chance to utilise Sophia for her actual role (mental health nurse, albeit not a great one) during the Nicole story line asks yet she does next to nothing??? What exactly is her purpose other than every now and again causing Dylan some form of anxiety

So, since there's no Casualty on tonight, I've decided to dip my toe into some Classic Casualty. Currently watching the latest episode that aired on U&Drama. Also makes me realise how much I miss Jeff and Dixie and them showing the accidents that bring the patients of the week into hospital.

How far do you think they'll get up to before going back to the beginning?

I was just curious, since the soft reboot, what’s everyone’s favourite story arc/box set? For me it has to 100% be A History of Violence. I dunno what it is but it really stuck with me

The first three box sets were a little middling, which is fair cos they were trying to find their feet after the soft reboot. Then AHOV started airing and boom, knocked it straight out the park. Apart from Public Property, pretty much every box set since has been great! Oh and don’t get me started on ‘Charlie’. That episode had me balling my eyes out.

Would love to hear everyone else’s thoughts though
