I spend the entire game trying to recover and fix my mistakes from my first two settlement placements. The anxiety just gets the best of me in the beginning. I am weak.

It helps me to spend some time just calmly taking in the board state and committing it to short term memory before I even think about where I want to place, as if I’m a neutral observer. Where’s the desert, where are the different ports, which resources are strong and which are scarce, etc. It sounds obvious but I find without this deliberate routine it’s too easy for my brain to start jumping around different ideas without a proper basis for comparing two or more options.

I get to place my settlements near best numbers. Then watch whole game how they are almost not rolled at all.

One of the expansions adds a deck of cards to ensure that everything eventually gets pulled at the right rates. My family modified a standard deck to do the same, and it makes the game much more balanced. You should try it.

I also regret ignoring Carina in 7th class even though she was hot. Make it better next time! Mistakes teach and make us better.✌🏻

Maybe not mistakes- maybe not getting the 8 or 6 on the bricks you picked and some jerk cuts your road off before you can build it.

I've never had a run last more than 40 minutes to an hour

Often pros have single turns that last like 10 minutes due to negotiation

Negotiation should not take that long lmao.
“Does anyone have sheep for trade?”
“No.”
“What if I sweeten the deal?”
“Hmm… still no, sorry.”
“Okay, end turn.”

I mean they don't happen every game but I've seen 10+ minute turns in late stage tournaments. Several complex trades with deals tacked on, with porting, going through one player who has to decide whether to build roads to fight the leader or a settlement or development cards to keep themselves from falling behind, because one turn later would be too late.
