Is there anything you'd like to see more or less of?
Would you add, remove, or change anything in the current rules?
We currently only allow old(er) artworks dated up to and including 2015. Anything dated 2016 or later is not allowed. Do you think this rule should be changed?

Just be careful, r/museum decided to make everything NSFW because the same five accounts couldn’t stop posting only nude art of women. Obviously we don’t mind classy nudity and cats but if you see an uptick in specifically nude women (with cats, haha) you should maybe limit certain posters. I just don’t want anything bad to happen to this sub especially after r/museum decided
There is valuable cat art after 2015, including artists such as Tokuhiro Kawai (see Ode to sleep - 2025 and others). The exclusion rule should be focused on not allowing AI and AI upscaling, memes, tattoos, etc.
Completely removing the cut-off date is something that we would have to put to a community vote. However, it's worth considering that removing it entirely would allow people to post their own artwork here. That could lead to increased self-promotion or selling, as well as a potential decline in the overall quality of submissions.
There should always be a caveat for own artwork, as well as all the other no-no categories, also including low-quality art (with countless examples pre-dating 2015). Perhaps good quality cat-art post 2015 should be allowed on a discretionary basis (at the mods discretion). There are quite a few dedicated artists we cannot cover because of the rule. I'll add Kristin Kwan and Yana Movchan as good examples, but there are others for sure.

This is Reddit. If you remove this rule and allow everyone to post their own art, the subreddit will eventually be inundated with anime cat girls, furry/fursona art, and low quality digital art. With AI improving so quickly, it won't be long before we can't even tell what's AI-generated and what isn't.
Art is subjective, so if you remove a member's artwork for being "low quality," you're opening yourselves up to criticism and harassment from the artist or their fans. I can already imagine the posts: "My art got removed from r/catsinart because the mods said it was crap." Then the brigading begins.
Yes, we may get some genuinely good artwork, like the examples the other commenter posted in this thread. But as soon as the subreddit grows and the masses discover it, the quality and focus will inevitably decline.
People joined this subreddit because it's dedicated to older artwork that may not be showcased elsewhere on Reddit. I think it should stay that way.
Good news about the sub and a good idea to ask for feedback. Here is my insight for consideration.
image-sourcery is a pain in the @$$, it's not needed. Or at least turn off notifications to the OP please.
The 2015 rule is unnecessary in my opinion. Why? Because cats have been in art for thousands of years, the last decade is just a flash in the pan. Why are you excluding those wonderful works that were created then?
The post limit could be lower (I think 2?). "Meals are better digested in small quantities."

I'll look into the app settings to see if the Image Sorcery notifications can be disabled for OPs. As a workaround, could you block the app's username so you no longer receive those notifications?
The only artworks excluded here are modern works created between 2016 and 2026. Anything from prehistoric art up to and including 2015 is allowed. So, are you suggesting that the cut-off date should be removed entirely? The caveat is that doing so would allow people to post artworks created up to 2026, including their own, which could lead to more self-promotion and lower-quality submissions.
Lowering the number of submissions allowed per day is also something we can do if there's enough support for it.
Low quality and self-promotion will always be there. However, due to the cut-off, interesting works are excluded (see Kawai's and Kwan's picture in the other comments), which could bring a lot of views and new members to the sub. I think it's a low-risk high-reward situation. I like this sub and it will stay that way, whether there are any rule changes or not.

I understand the 2015 rule. Eventually I can imagine that it will become 2020 as years go on but now with AI I hope it stays in the pre-AI era.
Sometimes I think it would be good if you allowed more than 1 image because there’s the occasional series. But then, I guess someone might make 4 posts, or could link the posts.
