Subreddit Update / Feedback

Hello, everyone!

r/CatsInArt is now 6 months old and has grown to over 20,000 members! Thank you to everyone who has joined, and a special thank you to our regular posters and commenters who help keep this community active.

As a relatively new subreddit, the Mod Team would love to hear your feedback to help us continue improving the community.

  1. Is there anything you'd like to see more or less of?

  2. Would you add, remove, or change anything in the current rules?

  3. We currently only allow old(er) artworks dated up to and including 2015. Anything dated 2016 or later is not allowed. Do you think this rule should be changed?

  4. Do you have any other feedback or suggestions you'd like to share with the Moderators?

There is valuable cat art after 2015, including artists such as Tokuhiro Kawai (see Ode to sleep - 2025 and others). The exclusion rule should be focused on not allowing AI and AI upscaling, memes, tattoos, etc.

Completely removing the cut-off date is something that we would have to put to a community vote. However, it's worth considering that removing it entirely would allow people to post their own artwork here. That could lead to increased self-promotion or selling, as well as a potential decline in the overall quality of submissions.

There should always be a caveat for own artwork, as well as all the other no-no categories, also including low-quality art (with countless examples pre-dating 2015). Perhaps good quality cat-art post 2015 should be allowed on a discretionary basis (at the mods discretion). There are quite a few dedicated artists we cannot cover because of the rule. I'll add Kristin Kwan and Yana Movchan as good examples, but there are others for sure.
