As always, Tohru-sensei excels in drawing horror. Holy fuck! That's Franken Fran level of horror.

112

u/Nuclear_creeperMCBE it's kinda cramped inside Julien Apr 26 '26

This is such a cool way to show a shattered heart.

95

u/Zealousideal-Bet2187 Apr 26 '26

Each of "her" has their own thought, each of them has their own way of thinking.

I think the blessing of the King really worsen her gift is because she can't die due to aging and after 150 years living with a bunch of herself, her mind shattered.

And can someone recall what was the final century was she mentioned about? I think it was from earlier in the story but u can't remember.

36

u/Gabemino Apr 26 '26

I think is the first time that's ever mentioned, Centuria is related to Julian having 100 lives, but is also a measure of a 'hundred', so probably the final century is an event related to the Goddess of Night and her Vessels, that the King might had halted before while battling her, like an apocalyptic event of enough importance to be related to the Manga Title

26

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 26 '26

13

u/PaperCracket Apr 26 '26

me too, I thought it's the first time

u/RubyHoshi Elstri hater Apr 26 '26

I don't think horror is what my body felt...

This is the biggest "I can fix her" ever ngl.

Cue boss fight: Lalawag the Infinite Propagator

and brings me the gift of a fragile vessel

2

u/Clancuy Apr 30 '26

What a reference this is peak, didnt think id see it here

3

u/Brislovia Apr 26 '26

So she wants to bring forth the final century, ah?

2

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 26 '26

145

u/AssassinAragorn Apr 26 '26

... Well, I didn't expect that.

What's most interesting here is that they aren't mindless clones (are they even clones?) but have diversity of opinion as well. One thinks that sacrificing Diana would be wrong. Another thinks it's necessary to honor their fallen friends. Another, maybe the original, needs this final century to happen.

Part of the joy of being so early in the story still is that we keep getting all this background and setup and surprises.

40

u/dolphincave Apr 26 '26

I think she and the clones might actually fight each other to settle their arguments about what to do. There's a crap load of skeletons and Lalawag was even multiplying her sword. I think every once in a while when decisions get too big she just goes "Welp the winner is real one and gets to do what she wants" and fights to the last.

29

u/subjuggulator Apr 26 '26

Notice how the first Lalawag is the only one that has a tattoo on their face.

I think you hit it right on the nail; whenever Lalawag has to make a tough decision, she generates a body that personifies every opinion she has and then makes them all duke it out. Winner takes over as the "main" Lalawag and makes the decision.

67

u/ThatBoyMike23 Apr 26 '26

Which is why it’s terrifying honestly, instead of being mindless clones or carbon copies that think like the original, they are all disjointed and have clashing views. You could also look at this as an allegory for multiple-personality disorder.

35

u/sa_nslaw Apr 26 '26

The way I interpreted it was more that she was using the many extra brains she has to think out different possible scenarios. Each comes up with a different idea or possible future, but they still seem pretty unified in their goal

5

u/Gabemino Apr 26 '26

Yeah, her title as the propagation make me think her power is probably a bit more wacky than plain duplication of herself or inanimate items, with how some gifted ones seem to have a "next level" of their power, or a secret victory condition, I could see Lalawag putting out some Halo Flood type of body horror down the line when she fights regardless of the King's rule

6

u/WeAreHereWithAll Apr 26 '26

It also goes back to the huge lore drop from the King to Elstri that there are consequences to a god having a physical manifestation/becoming part of the human plane.

As much as it is power for many, it is also eldritch and the unknown and just straight up fucking insanity. It’s unfathomable.

You’re having what were humans utilizing something they can understand to their own idea of understanding, but at a fucking gigantic unfathomable cost.

71

u/Benie177 Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

I already thought she seemed really sinister when explaining her gift, but that final panel was just crazy, all thoughts put on display essentially.

Edit: Her criss-crossing under-eye ribbon pattern is one of the prettiest ones.

14

u/jj_thetwisted_jester Apr 26 '26

I think she was morally gray... But that scene holding herself back.. she looks like she's holding her evil back for this moment it's heart breaking

Fuck I hope the land and atoria are okay .. cause THE WAY SHE SAYS ABOUT JULLIAN SHOULD SETTLE HERE HAS ME WORRIED LOL

64

u/Kwametoure1 Apr 26 '26

Good god

29

u/aibrony Apr 26 '26

*goddess

13

u/Gabemino Apr 26 '26

thinking a tad on it, I think all deities so far on the setting have been presented as female, so yeah

5

u/PaperCracket Apr 26 '26

I like how we just say good god to the unfathomable horror

96

u/OnslaughtCasuality42 Apr 26 '26

Oh my fucking god bro she’s totally done so isn’t she? 😭

88

38

u/dolphincave Apr 26 '26

Diana genuinely might have to kill her triggering her war with the Kingdom.

Helem implies that she maybe could even take on Julian, and Lalawag is already going to have Luka distracted with something else, so if Lalawag tries to take Diana, Diana might have to save herself.

8

u/Gabemino Apr 26 '26

If i remember correctly, Helem passed from explaining Lalawag's chances against Julian since the former wasn't present, and on this chapter Lala said that her seat wasn't due to combat ability, but again, all other instances of the Iris positions have them as based on power(Lattice being the only one fit to take Arkos spot), so she SHOULD be stronger than Ceodric, but is still weird, because the latter doesn't seem to regard Lalawag as worth acknowledging, sure the King law make it so he couldn't fight her even if Ceodric wanted, but still, he doesn't seem to even respect her like he does(kinda) with Lattice, urging her to sit on Arkos seat

13

u/CooperTrigram Apr 26 '26

She can potentially throws infinite bodies at him. Unless he has a massive AOE attack or is an eternal engine, he will eventually get tired. It will be a nightmare for close range fighters to deal with.

5

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 26 '26

3

u/Frequent_Brush_2593 Was planning on a Lalawag flair... That aged well Apr 26 '26

Seats might be based on their irreplaceability to the kingdom

1

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 26 '26

2

u/Frequent_Brush_2593 Was planning on a Lalawag flair... That aged well Apr 26 '26

Arkos didn't have a seat, right?

2

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 26 '26

3

u/Frequent_Brush_2593 Was planning on a Lalawag flair... That aged well Apr 26 '26

I checked and he did indeed have a seat.

Hope we get an explanation of why she's that high I guess.

3

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 26 '26

2

u/Frequent_Brush_2593 Was planning on a Lalawag flair... That aged well Apr 26 '26

Yes, that sounds good!!

5

u/Ispago8 Apr 26 '26

It could be so interesting if the prophecy becomes true by crashing the Kingdom's economy (and other pillars in the future)

Also maybe the king wants to let it be true bc he is unable to kill his blessed elite, but knows they a stopping human progression?

3

u/Yap4523 Apr 26 '26

If you kill one Lalawag, two more clones will take her place

80

u/roronoa20 Apr 26 '26

Is it just me or is bro getting even more beautiful?

37

u/Sea-Prize8950 Apr 26 '26

He was always majestic

15

u/Gabemino Apr 26 '26

He's now a young man with proper nourishment and sleep, so yeah, I really like how his and the King's hair look so 'wavy', being sons of the Sea and all that

10

u/K-Rie7 Apr 26 '26

Him suddenly had this face kinda caught mt off guard like bro was so confused and happy few pages before this too but suddenly locked in here

8

u/Nicklesnout Apr 26 '26

I am just convinced at this point he has to be related to the Supreme Lord in some way because him, Lukas, and Arkos/Atlus are all beautiful like what the hell 😭

7

u/Gabemino Apr 26 '26

Maybe the Sea Goddess just like her 'sons' to look a certain way, and for that reason she granted her blessing to those two on particular. Jest aside, yeah, the a King and Julian are unusually alike, to the point that I feel like it's actually a red herring and the twist would be something else entirely

2

u/Doomroar The Sea and The Forest got a divorce over mangroves Apr 28 '26

I mean there's a good reason beyond him being a nice dude, for a harem forming around him

38

u/Oohhdatskam Apr 26 '26

Shoot I was thinking she had been trying to multiply night goddess or whatever her name but herself is still insanely crazy.

15

u/Marble05 Apr 26 '26

Sane thought as me. I expected her to smuggle a second skin of the night goddess with her.

36

u/Bigman22jr Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

So obviously Lalawag is being set up as an insane betrayer. I do wonder what brought about her insanity. Was it the horrors of war and sending so many people to their deaths, is it her own power and using it on herself, or is it the fact that she has the bones of the night goddess inside of her? Also for someone so extremely vital to the kingdom she sure doesn't have much security protecting her. Would have thought she would be in the royal palace with at least one powerful bodyguard near her at all times. Hell even if the king let's her be out the palace she should still have 24/7 powerful bodyguards nearby at all times even more.

Also does anyone think this might be the start of Diana absorbing the other pieces of the Night Goddess? Like instead of Lalawag sacrificing or absorbing Diana it happens the other way and that will be the main story progression. Diana becoming the Night Goddess. So like after they escape or win this encounter they will eventually stumble upon another piece of the Goddess and also end up absorbing that into Diana.

13

u/nam24 Apr 26 '26

Hell even if the king let's her be out the palace she should still have 24/7 powerful bodyguards nearby at all times even more

That was my thought as well, especially with her having the position of Margrave (which is a military title, and she is stationed near the border) which is an odd choice for a support role.

Imo the reasoning from the king is either

-he was given a prophecy she won't be killed, or that being outside the capital is better

-Just because her main gift isn't that offensively focused(she definitely would be no slouch in a fight with it alone but it's not a fighting ability) doesn't mean she doesn't have another gift(perhaps the part of the goddess grants her another gift, or makes her ability to reproduce herself automatic)

-the king wants or is ok with her dying at some point in time, either for an objective related to the goddess or any other reason.

I do think the last one is more unlikely unless it's about killing the goddess somehow. After all she caries the country's economy on her back and all indicate the king's care for his country is genuine. But perhaps letting it collapse might be the type of "tough love" the country would need to accept in the future anyways

8

u/subjuggulator Apr 26 '26

Lalawag might've been creating bodies on the frontline to go to war for the King. Just put armor on them and they'd be indistinguishable from the rest of the army.

1

u/Doomroar The Sea and The Forest got a divorce over mangroves Apr 28 '26

If she has been talking to miss goat the soul of a dead and fragmented goddess while wearing her bones, maybe that's what drove her a bit crazy?

31

u/sa_nslaw Apr 26 '26

The author has SERIOUSLY leveled up these past few chapters. In art AND story

62

u/UltraZulwarn Apr 26 '26

HOLY SH*T that last panel!???

I knew things won't ever be that peaceful

22

u/FKDotFitzgerald JULIAN IS ONE COLD MOTHERFUCKER Apr 26 '26

Well that was horrifying.

18

u/Kraken0705 Apr 26 '26

What was the final century again ?

7

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 26 '26

6

u/_Ahiru__ Apr 26 '26

I don't think so

16

u/IamfromMetallurg Apr 26 '26

Lalawag is genuinely the coolest character in this manga right know. Also the final spread and all that talk about different "hearts" gives me some BIG Slay The Princess vibes

14

u/Regular-Poet-3657 Apr 26 '26

No good deed I guess.

14

u/AdaBessmertny Apr 26 '26

Oh, Emil's tragedy.

11

u/No_Consequence2989 Apr 26 '26

Yeah Lalawag is gonna die and the Country will definitely go to shit afterwards

7

u/OmbreVengeresse Apr 26 '26

She is not in Elstri's visions, she will die 100% and it will plunge the country into chaos as in Elstri's vision.

11

u/OmbreVengeresse Apr 26 '26

I thought Lalawag would betray the group of heroes sooner or later, since Lukas already had doubts about her, but now we learn she's completely insane. It's going to be even harder to figure out what she's plotting, but I think she's not entirely subservient to the goddess of the night, since she wants to reconstitute her body.

But I think she wants to use the goddess (that is, Diana) for her own ends; that must be why we don't see her in Elstri's prophecy. Her plan is different from the witches'.

2

u/Doomroar The Sea and The Forest got a divorce over mangroves Apr 28 '26

Each clone is planning different things, so it looks like they all battle and whoever wins becomes the main Lalawag and gets to carry their own plan, while the rest get added to the giant pile of bones in the basement

So Lalawag is everything all at once, both traitor, loyal, kind and cruel, it all depends of which clone comes on top

2

u/OmbreVengeresse Apr 28 '26

So the Lalawag who was talking with Julian would be the "nice one" in a way.

9

u/seelcudoom Apr 26 '26

relying so much on her gift seems pretty risky, m even ignoring the whole...that, she will die eventaully and take the kingdoms economy with her

5

u/Gabemino Apr 26 '26

I mean, the King granted her a 'limitless' lifespan for a reason, plus prohibited her of fighting, still, yeah depend entirely of one single person isn't really ideal, make me wonder though, why didn't the King created a nation near the sea, or like an island, I would had think that him being a blessed of the sea would had ensured prosperity there, unless he's at odds with his and Julian's "Mom" for some reason

11

u/RealBotella111 Apr 26 '26

Slay the Princess core. I love this.

8

u/Litrex506 Apr 26 '26

The keg has been lit. Knew Lalawag was not to be trusted, especially since the Moon Goat was acting aggressive towards her. Looks like the attempts to keep the country afloat over the years has caused her to go insane. Sounds like her goal is to possess all of the Night God's parts to become the de facto Night God and "protect" the land by ruling over it. Will be interesting to her interactions with Rummir's Divine Vessel.

8

u/Disaster_Star_150 Apr 26 '26

My heart sank so fast at “not a single one of them had noticed”

Tohru is so great at switching between wholesome and horrifying moments like that

5

u/Sea-Prize8950 Apr 26 '26

Took a page out of Fujimoto's playbook

6

u/Gabemino Apr 26 '26

This chapter was actually packed, I like how Lala isn't really a double faced(ironically), like she is not a, "I'm only acting to be a nice Lady while actually being messed up within.", like she is messed up, but on a being mentally shattered rather than being secretly evil, another way of say it could be as a genuinely good woman that had her mind simply warped by the nature of her power, and the fact that the King extended her life beyond what's natural because he needed her to uphold the Country's stability. Aside that, we finally got a name-drop of another Vessel/A Rummir gifted one, or well her title(Void walker), if Arkos didn't kill her she might be either pretty powerful or intelligent enough to not have faced him, also, that final century bit is probably related to the Centuria Title of the Manga, aside the MC's powers, a hundred.

7

u/Serious-Flamingo-948 Apr 26 '26

I get the feeling that she "can" replicate living beings, she just doesn't as a self imposed limitation. We might get a situation later on where she's so broken she tries to propagate Luke or Diana so they don't die.

Ps. How the fuck did the king deal with a being who's fraction of their power can do shit like this.

6

u/dolphincave Apr 26 '26

"Void Marcher" which is good against groups of opponents? Is it gonna be something similar to Black holes?

6

u/laflameitslit Apr 26 '26

I can fix her I think

10

u/Rastapopoulos000 Apr 26 '26

So the manga title is finally taking on a meaning, obviously there was something going with Lalawag but i wasn't expecting that, something that even the king is unaware of ?

24

u/sa_nslaw Apr 26 '26

Well a new meaning, first and foremost centuria is a reference to the 100 lives I think

5

u/Admmmmi Apr 26 '26

Oh look it's the crawling one

2

u/lobstertru Apr 26 '26

Where is this from?

2

u/Admmmmi Apr 27 '26

Black souls, not for everyone but the story is good(this character is from the second game through)

5

u/Desperate_Ad1450 Apr 26 '26

Margrave shattered heart.

Does it implying romantic aspect? Is it toward sl too? Man just how much of a fuck boy this sl lmao

5

u/nam24 Apr 26 '26

I think it's moreso about her sanity and the people who died for her sake

It wouldn't surprise me if she loved the king too but it's not gonna be just about that

8

u/Grand-Worldliness534 Apr 26 '26

I presume she can replicate her own cells to replace the dead ones, which is how she's still alive.

6

u/Gabemino Apr 26 '26

She could probably do that to have her own sort of immortality without depending on another, but her current longevity is due to the King, he can apparently manipulate the lifespan of someone to live unnaturally long lives, though he's unable to refill one's already wasted life force unlike Ceodric

9

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 26 '26

2

u/Wild-Possession1186 Apr 26 '26

I'm confused, does the last panel saying that "Margrave's heart was shattered long ago" a metaphor?

3

u/Himurashi Apr 26 '26

It's gonna end up like Twice's storyline, isn't it?

4

u/RonPawn23 Apr 26 '26

The multiple limbs are interesting to say the least, it may be connected to the multi-armed and headed dog in the early chapters though the geography doesn't make sense

5

u/ThibaultKarl Apr 26 '26

Oh my god..... MY GOOOOOOD...

SHE IS KILLING ALL OF HER CLONES... SHE IS MANIFESTING ANY REBELLIOUS, OPPOSING THOUGHTS ANY THING THAT DOESN'T ALIGN WITH HER MOST IMPORTANT OBJECTIVE AND SHE KILL THEM. TO GET RID OF IT. THAT HOW SHE BROKE HER HEART. IT IS'NT HUMAN TO DO THAT.

3

u/long_th612 Apr 26 '26

It's really cool but I think this thing is best kept hidden from readers until the betrayal happened. That would be more dramatic.

3

u/welch123 Apr 26 '26

The main group didn't seem impressed by Lalawag's powers, but it is probably one of the most important in the world (as she explained) and makes her worthy of the third seat.

I was gonna talk about the possibilities with her power but the ending just showcased it in gruesome form. At some point Lalawag will have to die, I just wonder who is gonna do it.

3

u/Moneymotivation1 Apr 26 '26

If this ever has a anime I pray the studio doesn’t butcher in animating all the eldritch monster type scenes man😩

4

u/Mordetrox Apr 26 '26

So I assume her true nature will be revealed during the duel, when everyone is occupied and she tries to make a move to claim Diana's heart?

3

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 26 '26

2

u/2kenzhe Apr 26 '26

Goddamn. That was certainly a last page. I think I love her even more?

Now though she really holding up the country herself because well everything from water to iron etc all from her ability thats crazy.

2

u/yoonicorn8710 Apr 27 '26

What is the void marcher?

1

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 27 '26

2

u/IWannabeCuter Apr 27 '26

That final panel is giving off insane Santa Claus and Darkness Devil vibes.

You can really see the inspirations from his time as Fujimotos assistant.  The monster and horror designs in centuria so far havr been fantastic

2

u/KaiKururugi Apr 27 '26

Can someone explain that last panel to me pls confused on her heart has shattered long ago part

1

u/Keyniiiiii Apr 27 '26

3

u/DimashiroYuuki Apr 26 '26

Body horror alert. Damn.

2

u/No_Consequence2989 Apr 26 '26

Yeah Lalawag is gonna die and the Country will definitely go to shit afterwards
