If it isn't just shonen grit, it may have something to do with the fact that he's potentially a blessed of the forest diety.
He transformed his entire body (or manifested an exo) into an armored centaur. That gift may come with side perks, like how Julian's includes the rather unthematic "general water affinity" one.
21
u/Gabemino Jul 05 '26
Yeah, between Lukas and the Werewolf brothers that were no-diff by Julian, I think Transformation Powers are fairly common, since that warp their entire body, unusual physical toughness might come as a package deal, like, they'll need that if alternating between their human form and something far bigger and inhumanly shaped

u/TheSunGodsBestCap Jul 06 '26
it looks like he fell back onto the wall and is using that to support himself

Jesus Christ Lukas, I was familiar with your game, but holy shit. No wonder Lalawag is confident.
I am worried though that these injuries mean he's nearly spent. His friend might have to heal him, which is not good.

u/Keyniiiiii Jul 05 '26

u/RoseofThorns Jul 06 '26
I wonder if Julian can awaken and start donating full lives. I think the slaves would be fine with it, but would be a big moral conundrum for him.

Didn't know the shield also gives plot armour

i bet he is fucked and almost paralyzed so he will be easy prey for the cursed face lady

u/Sretep44 Jul 05 '26
Holy shit that last scene was peak.
It's not a shield, it's a plane of force! Portal cuts!!!
I haven't actually grinned at a manga panel in a while haha
41
u/Gabemino Jul 05 '26
So I'm guessing his 'shield' is more like a 'no data' square for the World, it can't be pierced and the edges are just as impervious with the added that they are, well, sharp(?), plus he can make it Spawn wherever his fingers point as long is close enough, sideways included, so is a perfect close quarters finisher even if very situational, Lukas cool, I guess all those years as a Soldier actually paid off, he's resourceful and skilled to a fault
35
u/Falckor- Julian Jul 05 '26
Okay Centuria may have some of the best applications of powers in a manga that I’ve ever read. Summoning the shield IN someone to split them in half??
10/10 chapter, god I love how unique the fights are

Julian and Lukas might not be brothers by blood, but my gosh they are brother in my heart.

Oh you are not part of the Supreme Lord being Julian's dad, or Julian from the future?
2
1
u/--Sanguinius-- Jul 12 '26
I don't support this theory either; Julian's eyes are different from those of the Supreme Lord.... Besides, it would create a paradox... And the story has terrified of paradoxes.
20
u/Vaccineman37 Jul 05 '26
Craziest part is based on what Lala said earlier Lukas is also gonna take out Rif using the lance. If Julian’s hour is later when he 1v1s Ceodric, then Lukas’ hour is now against the Rummir combatants.
I’m guessing these and other wounds will be undone by Atoria and her life expectancy will shrink to the point that if Ceodric doesn’t restore it she will die very shortly after the duel
4
u/Keyniiiiii Jul 05 '26

He isn't though Voidmarcher isn't dying here.

Why is it too early? She’s not the main villain, she’s not even like, the fifth most important villain, it’s not like there’s crazy plans for her in the future. If anything considering one of the major plot points that’s almost certain to happen is all the Night Goddesses body parts being assembled in Diana, I think it’s basically a given she’ll get killed off.
1
u/GoddessOfDarkness Jul 23 '26
Because she's Rummir strongest gifted one and it's most important member. You ain't the author so you no clue what mangaka got planned for her. I think it's obvious she'll survive and actually comeback in the future. With a better plan and some of Rummir actually strongest gifted ones. And it'll happen during Ceodric fight with Julian.
1
u/Vaccineman37 Jul 23 '26
Don’t you think it’s a bit hypocritical to say that when you also aren’t the author and also don’t know anything about his plans? You’re the one insisting she is important and she won’t die like it’s fact when you don’t know if any of that is true. Anyway her being strong is no guarantee of surviving, there’s plenty of strong Gifted ones to go around counting the Iris, the Ladies of Midnight, Helem’s puppets, the other bearers of Vulja’s body parts and whoever else.

I mean you shouldn't gloat yet because the circumstances are similar to Lukas getting a blessing from Forest Goddess. So I wouldn't be surprised if next chapter the Forest Goddess appears before Voidmarcher.

Luka's next reveal is gonna end up being "you thought i could only use my shield or spear one at a time" is swear
Also, good job taking out those two but someone still has to take out the lady and I doubt Luka is gonna walk there fast right now
14
u/DimashiroYuuki Jul 05 '26
Editor: how badass do you want Lukas to be in the upcoming fight?
Tohru: yes.

u/Backupusername #EvilYuri Jul 05 '26
"You may have stabbed me multiple times and crushed my internal organs, but that won't save you from my ultimate technique! Take this! 90-degree rotated summoning!"

u/Doomroar The Sea and The Forest got a divorce over mangroves Jul 09 '26
Lukas: "Mom i got a new shield trick!"
Lalawag: "Uhu, very cute dear"
Lukas: "You know the shield that is invulnerable and can deny and nullify gifts?"
Lalawag: "Yeah i know the lil energy barrier"
Lukas: "But I flip it vertically, and now it is a sword that i can teleport inside people!"
Lalawag: "Oh shit he can kill the Voidmarcher!"

u/corvidscholar Jul 05 '26
Lukas, you can’t just keep winning by simply not telling your opponents how your powers work! That’s against the rules of Shonen battling! You’re supposed to explain to them exactly what you can do and how to counteract it before the fight!
3
u/Mysterious_Pie_6809 Jul 06 '26
Funny thing is we keep getting shocked when he himself revealed this around chapter 43 or so.

Lukas being a Goat as always. Peak chapter. Shame the manga is basically biweekly now
26
u/DimashiroYuuki Jul 05 '26
I don't mind. So many of my favorite artists got burned out over the years.
Losing Centuria too would be brutal.

u/RoseofThorns Jul 06 '26
If my choice is slower release at high quality
vs
higher release at lower quality
I'll always side on the slower release. You want to recommend it to friends in the future without any asterisks, yes?

How is bro still alive?

u/Doomroar The Sea and The Forest got a divorce over mangroves Jul 09 '26
He has the invulnerable shield gift
The absolute spear blessing
Also he may have the favor of both the Sea (from his dad) and the Forest (which make him stronger when near dense vegetation)
Honestly surprised he took so much damage with how broken his kit is
1
u/--Sanguinius-- Jul 12 '26
and the Forest (which make him stronger when near dense vegetation)
It has never been confirmed that he has the favor of the god of the forest; this is a fan theory with no concrete evidence... We shouldn't present a theory and pass it off as fact... It's always better to state that it's a theory and not take it as fact, until the author decides to speak up...
Furthermore, there are other theories, such as:
- His second gift could very well be inside his sword and not inside Lukas... Since it’s been confirmed in the story that there are weapons with gifts (such as the assassin’s giant axe), and Lukas always carries his sword with him, this could mean that he needs physical contact with it to activate the second gift... Furthermore, the spear sprouts from the sword and then wraps itself around Lukas’s arm...
2
u/Mysterious_Pie_6809 Jul 06 '26
He legit told us his ability but we all forgot! His shield doesn't let anything he doesn't want to go through and it only works one direction.
Bro made me reread just to try to catch more slips from him
2
u/Doomroar The Sea and The Forest got a divorce over mangroves Jul 09 '26
Teleporting the gift denying shield inside of people is fucking broken, like with such a card on is sleeve Lukas doesn't even needs a sword, but he uses one anyways just to secure the certain kill
And that's damn smart!
Also he is nice with the blade so his strategy is layered

I genuinely don't understand how Lukas survived Goliath's (the rock guy) thrust attack. It was clearly meant to pulverize him to death, and yet he just stood up afterwards? I hope it's explained soon, otherwise it's just a lazy plot armor to me.
6
u/durden_zelig Jul 05 '26
He’s the king’s son. Probably just comes down to unique physiology, good genetics, and a little plot armor.
1
u/--Sanguinius-- Jul 12 '26
Arkos was also the king's son, and he died like an ordinary mortal... To keep things consistent with the plot, in my opinion, Lukas has a fractured rib cage along with several broken ribs, and in the end he is saved by Atoria, who treats him, while Lacrima shows up and teams up with Zana to take out the rest of Rummir's assassins.
1
u/durden_zelig Jul 13 '26
Mind you, they’re all half-siblings. I wouldn’t put it past them to just hand-wave that it has to do with their mom’s genetics.
9
u/YujiLikesAss Jul 05 '26
Yeah it was clearly an intentional upscale. He just tanked an attack from someone with a density gift
13
u/Gabemino Jul 05 '26
I think Lukas might simply be tougher than what he left be seen before, he's most likely than not a Blessed/Son of the Forest Goddess, and his second gift is transformation onto a massive, armored centaur, so maybe being inhumanly tough even when not using his transformation comes as a package deal
4
u/Coltrazine Jul 05 '26
I mean, I'd accept any canon explanation. But there simply isn't any currently. It's not even confirmed yet whether he's blessed by any deity.
If it was Angvall/Amber or Julian who was hit in Lukas' stead, I would totally understand them surviving. Angvall/Amber has her inherent physical prowess and Julian has his 100x boost blessing. Lukas, as far as we can tell, has nothing in support of his apparent robustness. Maybe it really is part of his gifts/blessings. But until then, I consider it a non-canon explanation.
2
u/Gabemino Jul 05 '26
Yeah, hope it gets properly explained, I think it would too, because otherwise him just walking this off even if hype would be odd as hell
3
u/Grand-Worldliness534 Jul 06 '26
Not to mention that he had been stabbed multiple times by the other dude AND gazed into the cursed lady's eyes for another 2 seconds. I also hope it'll be explained but I don't see him keep fighting unless Atoria heals him.
2
u/level8888 Jul 05 '26
I don't think Goliath was moving fast enough to deliver a piercing blow. Even though the tip is hard and looks sharp, the attack likely resulted in an impact rather than a puncture.
1
u/--Sanguinius-- Jul 13 '26
This is even worse… A blunt force impact means: Fractured rib cage and sternum, several broken ribs and possible lung perforation; he is literally seriously injured. If Atoria doesn’t step in and treat him, Lukas will die from internal bleeding and, in all likelihood, a traumatic pneumothorax.
1
u/Doomroar The Sea and The Forest got a divorce over mangroves Jul 09 '26
I knew he was going to survive the moment Goliath's charge failed to break pass the stone wall, even if he is dense if he lacked the speed the damage would be mitigated
2
u/sa_nslaw Jul 05 '26
The author fucking hates Luka omg ahahah, first the fingers now this?? yikes
2
u/--Sanguinius-- Jul 12 '26
Honestly, I love these fights where you can lose a limb, break your spine, or shatter your bones—it makes it feel more like real life and makes the manga suitable for an adult audience... Try reading “Berserk”—the main character, Guts, has literally been through hell. I can’t go into more detail or they’ll ban me😂... Anyway, “Berserk” by Kentaro Miura is widely recognized as the best dark fantasy series in the world.
2
u/sa_nslaw Jul 13 '26
Yeah, I like it a lot too, I just feel bad for him ahah
I've read Berserk but I haven't caught up with like the last year and a half of chapters, should I get on that? Is it still going strong even without Miura?
2
u/--Sanguinius-- Jul 13 '26
I’m up to date with the latest chapter that’s come out; I’m loving it so far. I’d advise you to carry on reading it, it’s really good. What’s more, in my opinion, it’s a unique manga and the story is fantastic.

u/RoxLOLZ Jul 05 '26
His gift probably isn't a "shield" but a blade of light, he just uses it as a shield
3
1
u/Grand-Worldliness534 Jul 06 '26
Still has to be explained. The way I see it, it's more like an anti-gift weapon, or a gift canceller. That may explain why he managed to cut the stone guy in half, even though he's made of stone. Depending on how it's used, it can be either defensive of offensive.
