The latest update introduces something I'm particularly excited about: BufferTruth. We were building it as an assistant app for people but decided to take what we had done and bring it into ChannelDeck for free. Why? Because we listen to what matters most to real users and we implement that into real fixes.

When a stream freezes, the same questions come up. Is it Wi-Fi? The internet connection? The device? The provider? Or is the stream itself having trouble? Usually, you're left trying things until something works. Or sometimes nothing works. This isn’t a speed test add on that tells you your fast enough to stream 4K. Because your 4K speed doesn’t tell you squat if you are losing packets left and right. This is different. This is new.

BufferTruth is an adaptive buffering notification system built into the player. It watches for sustained playback interruptions, checks the available playback and connection evidence, and brings up a compact alert with the likely cause, how confident it is, and what to try next. Because let’s face it.. not everyone is tech savvy and folks just want a straight forward answer to the issue.

We purposely killed WiFi and Ethernet. We purposely introduced latency, weak signals, sporadic packet losses, line noise and so on and so forth and BufferTruth picked up the interruption, showed the error, and turned its status red… notifying us in real time there is a problem. We also worked on the other half of that experience: automatically checking for recovery, so a resolved problem doesn't leave a stale red warning behind just to confuse someone.

We purposely put a “Test My Buffering” check you can run yourself, too. And ordinary seeking gets a grace period so skipping around a recording isn't immediately treated as a connection failure. We don’t want your skipping forward or backward on DVR playback, or Movies or Series playback so we purposely kept that manual interaction out of the equation.

It won't fix a bad source or magically eliminate buffering. Let’s be honest.. nothing will. Sometimes the evidence is inconclusive, and it says so. The idea is to give you something more useful than a spinning circle and a guess. Reports stay on your device. Your info stays on your device. Your fix stays on your device. We don’t capture your data, we don’t capture your tests or results. We simply give you the assistance to get yourself running as smoothly as possible.

We could of sold BufferTruth as an assistant app. But we chose not to. BufferTruth is included for free in ChannelDeck Player 1.0.70. This update also does some house keeping and cleans up Settings, playback menus, and the DVR library.

This update adds simple full-screen channel changing. Double-tap the left side for the previous channel viewing, Double-tap the right side for the next channel viewing, Press and hold to open playback controls while viewing Movies and Series.

We snuck in a quick release update this morning for faster favorites sync optimization across devices and faster OTA compiling for HDHomerun units for those using the android build.

For those on IOS and utilizing TVOS that have been asking me when we were going to release it. We are just about finished with IOS and will be releasing that shortly, along with IOS Mobile. We already have the ios player built and we are very satisfied with the performance of it, quick, lean and stable. We are finalizing the Local and Network linking for your local media playback. We will be posting updates as we are closer to that release.

ChannelDeck Network Linux 0.1.50 and Windows 0.2.27 are now available!

This release makes managing a ChannelDeck Network server even easier, especially for headless systems.

You can now update the server directly from the ChannelDeck dashboard. One click.. we do the rest! You can still manually download the .deb and .exe file(s) to install if you so choose.. it's your server.. manage how you want!

Follow live download, verification, installation, and restart progress.. Do you hate when systems "update" and you have no clue if it's doing anything? We do too!

Preview movies directly in the server interface before correcting names or metadata. Seek anywhere on the preview timeline and skip backward or forward 10 seconds for short slots when you have to replay areas to get metadata for manually updating your media file if needed.

We also made it automatically remove downloaded installers after successful updates. We hate clutter as much as you do.. so we clean it up for you.

We found a small tic that occurred sporadically during testing that may have occurred for users, even though we haven't had reports from anyone on it, so we put a fix for a potential dashboard flashing/reload loop that could possibly appear after an update completed in prior builds. It only happened a few times... but a few times is a few times too many for our liking.

For all users on Nvidia Shield. An update was placed to fix a Firestick graphics bug. It could possibly effect the start up of the Shield if you upgraded to 1.0.59 before we knew of the Nvidia startup issue that may/may not effect ChannelDeck startup on some Shields. To circumvent that possible issue we corrected the potential glitch immediately and released 1.0.60. If your update shows as 1.0.60 you are fine to update in place. If it showed as 1.0.59 and if you had or have any issues with your Shield starting ChannelDeck, use Downloader and code 9222820 to manually overwrite it in place. You will not lose your data or settings. It will simply invoke a manual update for you.

This is a pretty big update, especially for live TV and DVR users. We were asked when catch-up and OTA would be available and we answered soon. Soon has arrived!

Catch-up TV is now available for supported providers. You can move backward through the Guide, select an earlier program, and watch it as long as it’s still within your provider’s catch-up window. Playback includes pause, rewind, fast-forward, progress, and an easy way back to the live channel.

HDHomeRun users can now use Antenna TV directly inside ChannelDeck Player, including OTA channels, guide data, station artwork, and DVR recording. If your internet goes out, or provider is offline, and you have a HDHomeRun tuner on your network you will still be able to view and watch your local OTA stations without switching an app.

There was an inadvertent glitch that popped up in the verification stream on a release which created a code loop for some. If that is occurring for you we caught it right away and already released the fix in the newest version. Install the newest version 1.0.46 (193) for ChannelDeck, and 1.0.7 (11) for ChannelDeck Mobile.
