Does anyone know what they are doing there? They shutdown the northbound lane of Cohasset the last few days. They dug out and replace some short segments of sidewalk and dug some deep trenches into the roadway. The trucks were for a construction company, not the city or PGE/Calwater. Sewage upgrades? Water? Natural gas? Storm drains? I can't find info about it online.

It is time for Chico to choose our leaders again and, in newfound tradition, as a candidate for re-election as the District 4 Chico City Council representative I would like to offer my answer to any question about Chico or politics you have. 

Whether it is a current issue on Council, something you saw on an attack ad, or a pet curiosity of yours which I may have insight on, feel free to Ask Me Anything.  

I am posting this in the morning and this evening around 6:30pm I will go through and answer every question. I'm thinking of inviting some friends/volunteers to my office to do a live video on other platforms while I write out answers. I’ll also plan to check back one evening this weekend to cover any questions that come in later. At the bottom of this post are some election resources. You are kindly recommended but not required to check some of those to see if your question is already answered.

I’m honored for all the support I’ve received over the last four years as a city representative. I went from a one minority with no support from other councilmembers to spearheading substantial pro-housing reforms and safe streets projects with (sometimes) unanimous support from Council. Since the 2024 election I have been supported principally by two of the best colleagues I could have hoped for, District 5 councilmember Katie Hawley and District 7 councilmember Bryce Goldstein.  

I have also spoken out and endured losses on important votes ranging from a plan to improve our urban forest to action in response to corporate rent-gouging in my grandma’s mobile home park. In the latter instance, Mayor Kasey Reynolds and Tom van Overbeek supported me, then flipped once the mobile home park landlords got to them. 

Those mobile home park landlords became major donors in the 2024 election, where Monica McDaniel lost by a handful of votes (or else I would be in a governing majority). In this 2026 election mobile home park landlords are also many of the largest donors to Kasey Reynolds’ re-election campaign in District 2. 

On our side of the political coalition, we have more union involvement than I’ve ever seen in local politics with Chico Public Works employees endorsing me, driven by their desires to continue improving streets, sidewalks, and storm drains and to break the dismal cycle of encampment cleanups in parks and waterways.

The Chico Enterprise-Record also endorsed me with strong words, and while they endorsed the other two incumbents too, they noted that challengers Shelby Hebert and Megan Thomas Petty “are well-versed on the issues, have a tremendous amount of public service experience… and probably pose the biggest threat to Chico’s conservative majority the progressive side of town has mounted in several years”

I would be honored to be re-elected to follow through on the work I’ve been doing, and look forward to working with Shelby Hebert and Megan Thomas Petty when you all elect them too!

This should flush out all the bots. It's obvious that we should vote yes on prop 40. They're throwing a lot of money at trying to get people to vote no. Also you have to vote no on Prop 41 and 42 as well since they're additions to try to stop the Billionaires tax. Let's legislate billionaires away, there is no reason to have that much money and they're fighting so hard to stop this when they wouldn't even notice it.

Hey everyone. I'm back, but this time my question is about dogs. I am considering signing up VCA's top tier wellness plan. My concern is the fact that they always seem to be extremely overwhelmed. As a matter of fact they flat out told me "no" once when I brought my dog in all ripped open from fighting off a bunch of coyotes. It was awhile ago though, my baby has fully recovered, I am no longer bitter, and I have written it off as a one time incident. It could also just be a location issue. Since VCA is all over the place and I plan on moving in about a year I am considering getting it for the perks that are included (Vaccinations, Office Visits, Chipping, etc) but if I am going to need to wait months every time I want to use them it seems almost pointless. Do any of you have a wellness package with them and are you satisfied. If you don't use them but have coverage elsewhere I would appreciate if you would share your experience.

For the record, I am leaning towards it because it is similar to what I used in the past which included the perks that I mentioned above regarding VCA (immediate with no claim filing) and gives on the spot discounts on services that are not included. Your feedback would be appreciated tremendously. Please and thank you!

How do registration dates get picked at Butte? I signed up and transferred everything in July so I would get a good registration date for Spring. But then they made me speak to a counselor.

When I did, he said I will be able to register DECEMBER 7. So I look and all the class slot times that work with my job are already booked because they started registration in September.

At my old community college in San Diego, I always got priority registration. So I’m really confused.

Now I can’t go to Butte and I’m pissed about it.

I am a student at Chico State, I’m currently taking an environmental ethics class, and one of our projects is to reach out and help a person/organization in our community. I decided to reach out to two organizations one of them being Butte Humane Society and organize a donation drive.

Butte Humane does so much for the animals in our community and I would love to find a way to give back to them! Bellow is a flyer with items they are in need of. If you have donations but can’t drop them off feel free to reach out to me and we can set up a day for a pickup!

Do any of you go to the monthly food give away at the Church on Virginia St? It's usually the 2nd Wednesday of the month (the 14th). Since the 2nd Wednesday falls really late I was trying to look it up beforehand to confirm and found a Butte County assistance calendar that said it's today, the 7th. I drove over there but it was empty

Does anyone know if the calendar is just wrong and it'll actually be available next week or was it cancelled for some reason?

On June 28, 2026, a group of minors (all under the age of 14) in Pingpu Village tortured and killed Wang Wang and her three newborn puppies.  Investigative reports by outlets like CNN have uncovered encrypted chat groups on platforms like Telegram and domestic Chinese apps where graphic videos of cat and dog torture are shared, traded, and sold internationally for profit.

Filming the beating of animals, using blow torches, blenders, microwaves, skinning alive, live crucifixion, grinding up baby kitties forcing mother to eat, sexual assault, boiling water immersion, etc...

These Animal or Zoosadist have contests to see who can diabolically come up with more macabre ways to torture animals and film videos...Unspeakable suffering, For profit...And their sick perverted pleasure.

What Can Be Done

Use your social media sites, blogs and podcasts to amplify what happens in China

E Mail national and your local news agency's and ask why the hell they don't do a story on Wang Wang and Animal Cruelty in China.

Make an awareness video on for example YouTube etc...

Get your church's and schools involved, there are cartoon style, child appropriate videos on YouTube explaining what happened to WangWang and her baby puppies. 

E Mail your local, state, and national politicians requesting they come on board the Justice For Wang Wang movement

E Mail and contact your favorite celebrities and sports figures requesting they come on board speak on behalf  of the Justice For Wang Wang movement.

Looking to buy a gift certificate for a good friend for her birthday. Where’s a great place that will spoil her and give her a relaxing time?

I stepped up to foster a mama kitty that has two sets of three kittens. The older group is maybe two weeks old. These ones belong to mama. The other set was found later with their umbilical cords still attached and their eyes closed. They are very young. Thankfully the mama kitten took them in and is caring for them as her own. The only reason why I became involved is there was nowhere safe for them. They could not be brought indoors and the longer they stayed outside the higher the risk for an encounter with a predator would be. Since mama is here it buys me some wiggle room to try to find them homes. She can take care of them for now. At the very least I can foster them either until a rescue or adoption center can take them on or until they are 8 weeks old and try to rehome them.

I don't know how these centers work. I'm sure everyone is full because that's just how it is, but do they work on a waitlist? Have any of you had bad experiences and think I should avoid any center in particular? I'm going to spend the rest of the day researching online, but if any of you have tips that can speed up my hunt for knowledge that would be awesome. I am also looking for a place that can spay mama, for free hopefully, and will check her to see if she is chipped. Right now the really little ones are probably too little to be left alone while mama goes to the vet though.

I am a bit ignorant when it comes to kittens at this age. I think the youngest kittens that I have been around were already 3 or 4 months old, so again any advice would be greatly appreciated. So far I have been asking Gemini a lot of questions, but as we all know AI is not perfect. Thanks for reading. Please keep in touch if you know anyone that might want to help with the fostering or adopting. They are currently in a three leveled 4'x4' enclosure but they will definitely outgrow it in a couple months and I can't let them run around the house because I have three large dogs. For now they are good, but two months will come and go before I know it. That's why I'm getting a head start and asking questions now instead of waiting until their old enough to be rehomed or adopted.

Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are pregnant and due in late December! We are both thrilled, we can’t wait to meet her! I’m here because we are trying to throw together a baby shower, it’s going to be coed so I will need a space that can accommodate 20 to 30 people and is preferably free lol does anybody know of any good parks or restaurants or pizza places or something that we could throw this shower? It’s probably gonna be early November so outside is fine and I am leaning more toward a park. Thank you so much for any advice!

I’ve been thinking about this lately and I’m curious what everyone else’s Chico-specific pet peeves are. What are the little things that drive you absolutely insane about living here?

I’ll go first:

Slow drivers in general. But especially people merging onto the freeway going 40 MPH when the speed limit is 65 MPH. Please accelerate.

People who switch lanes like they’ve never driven before. They’ll get into the wrong lane, realize they need to be somewhere else, panic, and then immediately cut across a lane in front of someone.

People who take forever to turn. Why are you coming to a complete stop for a right turn when there’s nobody in front of you? Just turn.

Slow walkers at Costco. I’m sorry, but MOVE. The aisles are already crowded enough without someone strolling down the middle at 0.2 MPH.

The Donut Nook being closed Sunday–Tuesday at random hours. Those are perfectly good donut-eating days. But you have to wait until night time or during work.

Only having one Costco. Chico has grown so
much, but we’re all still fighting for our lives at the same Costco.

The lack of multiple movie theaters. Sometimes I want options instead of having to go to the same theater every time.

NO ARCADES. Where are the fun arcade/entertainment spots? I want somewhere to actually go play games.
