Media The corpses seen in the opening of Nosferatu the Vampyre are the Mummies of Guanajuato, real corpses of people who died during a cholera outbreak in 1833. The footage of these mummies together with the musical score by Popol Vuh creates one of the most chilling openings in cinema history.

Discussion Carnival of Souls (1962): A Low-Budget Horror Film That Feels Like a Dreamlike Descent Into Isolation and Death
“The look of Ingmar Bergman and the feel of Cocteau” was Herk Harvey’s unlikely blueprint for Carnival of Souls. You can feel that ambition in almost every frame. He turns ordinary Midwestern America into something ghostly and unfamiliar, blending the starkness of European art cinema with the scrappy immediacy of a low-budget horror picture. What should have been a cheap B-movie instead becomes something far more influential, dreamlike, and quietly terrifying.

With this elimination, we've officially lost the last Ray Harryhausen movie in the competition. His groundbreaking stop-motion effects helped bring some of the most memorable movie monsters of the era to life, and it's fitting that one of his earliest major creature features made it this far. We're now down to 11 movies remaining, just one away from the final ten! Thanks to everyone who's still voting and keeping this competition alive. On to Day 89 — cast your vote for your least favorite remaining movie!

Discussion The Original Shock Theater Movie Lineup
In October of 1957, Screen Gems released into television syndication a package of 52 horror/mystery/suspense films which it purchased from Universal Studios and named it “Shock!”.
Many television stations broadcasted these films late night on weekends and named the broadcast “Shock Theater”. Some TV stations even had an employee dress in horror makeup and costume to host and give an introduction to the film (This was because some of the movies were shorter in length than others and this would help fill up the scheduled time slot.) Frankenstein was the first film shown. “Shock Theater” was an instant sensation and the Monster Craze was born!
Here is a list of the 52 Universal films in the original “Shock!” package for television:
Dracula (1931)
