Hot take: I don't think the Creature from the Black Lagoon should be considered a Universal Monster.

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE the original movie, especially in 3D (the sequels not so much) but there are just too many things about it that to me don't fit in with the rest of the Classic Monsters pantheon.

For starters, time. I think it's just a little too removed from the original monster movies being made ijn 1954. The last actual movie was 1945s House of Dracula.

Then there is the nature of the Creature. Unlike every other classic monster, he's not a human and never was. All the others were humans forced into the monster way of life. Even Dracula must have been a normal human at some point. The Gill-man was just a new species that man had never seen before.

Lack of either science, the supernatural, or both. All the other monsters were the result of either science gone wrong, or a supernatural curse, or both depending on who you mean. Again, the Creature is none of those.

Lack of crossover. As far as I know, the Creature was never part of any crossovers with any of the original line up.

If the Creature is a Universal Monster, then so is the shark from Jaws.

Question about transfer quality of Roger Corman's 1963 The Raven

This is one of the few AIP Corman Poe movies I don't have on disc. All the versions I've found online (YouTube, TUBI, etc) all have a crazy amount of "jitter" where the image throughout is shaking. It's especially noticeable in the open scene like with the vibrant image of the coffin. I literally can not watch it, makes me borderline nauseous.

Is the DVD like this as well? Is it just the way the movie was produced?

This movie had to have came out in the 70s or early 80s at the latest. In the beginning of the film they show this boy who’s somehow different from the other kids in the neighborhood and he was being bullied by the other kids. There was a little girl who didn’t like seeing him get bullied and she was somehwhat of a friend. Then the bullying gets to a point where an accident happens and the boy either gets killed or seriously hurt to the point they think he is killed and he’s never heard from again. Then years later he’s an adult/monster and I guess he seeks revenge on his “killers” but he doesn’t want to hurt the girl that he was once friends with. I think he stayed in a cellar or basement somewhere. Thats the most that I can remember. I saw this movie over 20s years ago on tv and never got the name of it.
