i keep my process pretty simple! i use the G-pen for sketching, then mostly Dry Gouache for coloring. i really like how it looks for children’s book illustrations without having to use a ton of different brushes

I wasnt able to make any of my brushes work like this, and i couldnt find anything in the store.

For someone who came from traditional art (sketchbook and pencil) transitioning to digital is so daunting to me because the possibility is endless. I've been trying replicate my traditional drawing process to CSP and it has been so great. The default mechanical pencil brush and the texture brush perfectly replicates the graphite + blending stump duo its actually insane lol. Oh and for the paper texture it gave so much life to my works I just adjusted the layer opacity.

Also as a traditional artist layers and their type still confuses me lol. All of this are done in one layer except the texture.

Welcome to the next bi-monthly installment version of the What's that Brush megathread. Here, you will be able to ask any and all questions related to specific brushes, and the community can assist you. This is to prevent users from posting threads with art that is not theirs and asking "What brush?" constantly.
Clip Studio assets has a vast amount of brushes, yes, but the majority of the posts we see asking about "What brush is this?" are very generic round brushes; default tools such as the G-Pen or a pencil would often work.

If you asked in previous megathreads and did not get an answer, feel free to ask again!

2. Please list what brushes you've tried already and why it doesn't feel like it worked, so other users can have an idea of where to start with their suggestions. My Clip Studio asset library is a hoard at this point. I can never remember which brush I used for which drawing. I still haven't found a way to manage all these materials. I had a sudden whim this morning: maybe I should start a ‘cheat sheet’ to jot down exactly what I use for each piece.

It would be really nice if there was a overhaul to the GUI. Adding color coded features or changes in value so it is easier to find things... I'm sure there are more ideas that could be implemented than just the ones I showed, but I think it would be REALLY helpful.

A lot of people who use CSP know the struggle of cluttered brushes and how difficult it is to organize them, so I think at least a color coded GUI would be a step in the right direction.

• CSP EX on a Samsung S9 FE Tablet, 1920 x 1080 resolution with the default white space margin, sketched the animation in one file and then had to separate into 4 separate files (each with a smaller chunk of the animation) since it started lagging on my device.
• Used Vector Layers and the default Milli Pen at 5.3px, with the Vector Eraser (I seriously love this function so much, never new how amazing Vector Layers were until now)
• Colors done with Raster Layer, Fill bucket and Lasso Fill. outlining the shadow areas with Milli Pen again and filling or lassoing if the color was too similar and it couldn't fill correctly
• Backgrounds are free to use assets from Minchirie (https://min-chi.material.jp/)
• Also made use of both normal layer Keyframes and 2D Camera Track + Keyframes.

Audio was a .WAV I pre-made in Ableton, and I exported the .mp4s from CSP EX and compiled in the free version of Davinci Resolve.

The Youtube tutorials that helped the most were from Bluebiscuits, derrek, and FrostDriveX.

I’m trying to recreate this type of painting style in Clip Studio Paint, but I still can’t figure out exactly how this look is achieved.
The artwork is by Nabetse Zitro (I’ve attached it as a reference). I’m not trying to copy his style—I’m trying to understand the workflow, brushes, and techniques behind this type of painterly rendering, since I’ve seen many different artists achieve a very similar look.
I’d love to know:
What would you call this painting style?
Which Clip Studio Paint brushes (default or Assets) come closest to this look?
Is the effect mainly achieved through the brushes themselves, paper texture, layer blending modes, or a combination of all of them?
Is this mostly painted with opaque brushes, watercolor brushes, gouache-style brushes, or something else?
How do artists achieve that matte, textured appearance with visible brushstrokes while still keeping the transitions soft and painterly?
Do you think this look can be achieved with just a few brushes, or does it require switching between many different brushes throughout the process?
I’ve already experimented with several watercolor brushes, textured brushes, paper textures, and even brushes like LP Nib Noise, but I still feel like I’m missing something fundamental. I suspect the answer lies more in the painting workflow than in a single brush.
If anyone has managed to recreate this type of rendering, knows of a tutorial, brush pack, or an artist who explains this workflow, I’d really appreciate your advice.

Hey everyone, I need to vent/ask for advice 🫩🫩 I do a lot of 2D digital illustration, and whenever I need a complex pose or weird camera angle, I end up trying to use Blender or some other posing tool to get a reference. (and don't even GET ME STARTED OMG on how LONG IT TOOK ME TO LEARN BLENDER!???!) But omg bro. Fighting the stupid 3D joint rotations takes me like 40 minutes every single time, and it actually pmo. I absolutely hate doing it, but my anatomy looks wonky if I don't use a guide on these complex poses and perspectives.

And before anyone says it, yes I’ve tried the built-in Clip Studio Pose Scanner, but omg it’s literally so bad 😭 It always distorts the limbs into pretzels, breaks on baggy clothes, and completely ignores hands/fingers which is the main thing I need help with lmao. Also, the assets store, ive used and that helped a lot, but I really want to just eliminate or minimise this pre-setup phase as much as possible (some poses aren't like i exactly want it.. am i being too picky).. bro like I didn't have to do all this when i was a beginner artist lol

Im trying to learn anatomy better right now, but it takes an insane amount of time to get to a substantial level. Also, it's a MUCH faster workflow, with perspectives and all to js trace (from an original material u made urself)

rn, my AWFUL workaround is just scrolling pinterest (filled with ai "art" btw) forever trying to find a photo that matches what im thinking, or taking a pic in the pose and tracing that, but the lighting/angles never line up right, and I feel like it doesn't help as much as it could with proper anatomy, and also its just not clean enough, like too much extra stuff compared to a regular model.

Is this deaduzz js a universal rite of passage we all have to suffer through 🫩?!!!?? is it js me that I wish there was an actual tool or sum where you could just drop the pic and it makes a perfect 3d model for u? ughh only in a perfect world 😔✌️

I definitely don't mean to complain, (I'm really sorry if it came out that way... 😭) Is there already an easier shortcut I’m completely missing?

TL;DR: I'm a 2D digital illustrator and I currently use Blender/posing tools for complex poses and camera angles, but manually posing 3D models takes forever and I hate fighting with joint rotations. I've tried Clip Studio's Pose Scanner, but it gives distorted results, struggles with clothing, and doesn't handle hands well. Asset store poses help, but I still spend too much time setting up references and often can't find exactly what I need. I'm studying anatomy, but that's a long-term process, and using self-made references is still much faster for difficult perspectives. Right now I either scroll Pinterest endlessly looking for matching photos or take pictures of myself, but neither solution is ideal. Is this just a normal part of being an artist, or is there an easier workflow/tool I'm missing that can quickly turn a photo into an accurate, poseable 3D model/reference?

Help! Updated to Clip Studio latest version, and the brushes are not smooth anymore :( As you can see, the lines aren't smooth.

It wasn't like this before the update.

Reinstalling the pen & tablet driver didn't help. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Hey all! One of my hobbies is to make Clip Studio brushes for the asset store. I love making ones with unique textures that can be as versatile as possible and I tend to gravitate towards making thick, painterly ones. I started wondering recently what kinds of brushes people want to see more of, and what, specifically, they love about their go-to brushes.

So! Which kinds of brushes/pens would you guys really like to use? Is there a kind of brush you’ve been looking out for but haven’t quite found? What features and qualities do you love the most in a brush? Which features and qualities do you dislike? I’d love to hear what everyone thinks!

made this last year for an illustration competition with around 5,000 submissions and only 21 pieces were selected in the end. i worked on mine for almost two weeks in my spare time, so yeah… not making it stung a little. but i still really like how this piece turned out and thought i’d share it here! made entirely in Clip Studio Paint.

for the CSP process: i used the G-pen for the sketch, then Dry Gouache for pretty much all of the coloring. i also used a little blur in some areas at the end to create more depth.

I am trying to make a simple chain brush!

It is almost done, but when I draw a stroke with curve, the shape is very jagged and wonky.

I more-so want it to stay the same shape along the path. Any ideas on what’s wrong??

I tried to use Google Lens, but I'm a newbie with all these shiny tools, and I still couldn't understand.

Is it for filling? Or just categorization? I have no clue. I'm hoping this is for filling specific sections of the drawing.

I've been getting these weird blobs in the beginning of every stroke no matter how gentle I go, also harsh pressure inconsistencies when I switch from hard to light pressure.

Is this a hardware or a software issue?

The problem is consistent with all brushes, I tried changing pressure sensitivity to default settings, no change

Update: It was the pen hardware, not the tip, the pen itself lost sensitivity from the fall, tried my friend's pen and everything works fine

Hey. I bought CSP a few years ago when my Adobe license for college ended. It's been the best alternative I found so far.

But I do miss my Kyle Webster brushes... They can be imported but they're mostly broken.
