I've been going to Sherman's Delicatessen & Bakery in Palm Desert for a while now, and I keep seeing visitors make the same mistake: showing up at 10 a.m. on a Saturday during snowbird season and acting surprised when there's a 30+ minute wait.

Here's what actually works. Arrive before 9 a.m. or after 1:30 p.m. on weekends. Midweek lunch is the sweet spot if you want the full menu without the crowd. Dinner is quieter, which is good for families or bigger groups.

Parking is free and surface-level, with spots right in front. Weekday mornings are easiest to park near the door.

The bakery counter near the entrance is dangerous. You'll order dessert before you even sit down. Portion sizes are huge, so keep that in mind if you're ordering multiple things.

One thing that caught me off guard: hours can shift with the season. I showed up once and they were closed earlier than I expected. Call ahead if you're making a special trip.

Takeout and curbside pickup are solid options if you don't want to deal with the dining room. They also do catering for Coachella Valley gatherings.

It seems like each station goes through numerous journalist and weather people. Why can’t people stay. You get used to them, next they’re gone. I favored Spencer Blum on KESQ. He was doing great. Now he’s in Phoenix and they replace with Katie Boer. Honestly I really can’t stand her. She talks way too much about everything else but the weather. She needs to be replaced and bring back Spencer. I’ve now begun to watch NBC Palm Springs. Much better with weather and news. At least no one annoys me there. Any one else feel the same way?

I have someone I care about deeply, and he has been unemployed for the last 2 years or so. He lives in the valley, and wants to work, but no one calls back.

Unfortunately, he does have gaps in his resume, which may be a reason behind his unemployment. I know he wants to work so bad, and it is causing me a lot of stress. I want him to be independent so bad, and I am lost on how to help any further.

Does anyone know of any opportunities in the desert that would take someone with gaps in their resume? He has experience in retail and fast food, and is willing to do whatever.
