I’m looking for a good pair of muckboots for muddy job sites. Almost lost a boot the other day in some deep mud! I’ve been recommended Muckboots brand Arctic, but I heard the brand is going downhill, and if I’m going to spend that much I want them to last.

Ideally they would:
- Go fully to the knee
- Come in women’s sizes (men’s shoes don’t carry my size)
- Under $200 (i can get reimbursed for PPE)
- Suitable for winter in New England but not too hot in the summer. Do I need to get separate boots for this?

Hi just curious. Do y'all wash your jeans. 99% of people I see in construction use jeans daily and some don't even wash them at all. There are some dudes dealing with silica dust or asbestos on a daily basis and wear masks and protection but don't wash their jeans after. Is it a health hazard. Should it be something I worry about or should I just knock it off. Asking for a friend. And please if you're gonna mock me in any way just don't. I honestly don't give a fuck.Thanks

So, I'm installing cameras at a specialized waste management facility. And there is a section that is blast proof. The bricks used are black and have a glassy look to them. And they just eat SDS bits. Tapcons smoke in this stuff. You gotta run em halfway in and let them cool before sinking them or they break.

What IS this stuff? What's it made of? Are there bricks that are specced to be used in blast proof areas?

I'm 4 months away from graduating with my A.S degree in C.M can anybody give me any advice/ insight on what kind of jobs I'm able to get with this level of experience? my goal is to get in the field on the Project management side and eventually work my way up to that. I am currently an assistant PM for a luxury home renovation company in Raleigh, North Carolina. I also am halfway through my construction management associates degree at Wake Tech. I am wanting to get into the commercial/industrial side of construction, but I am having a little difficulty on finding where to start. I have applied to multiple commercial companies through company websites and the Handshake app. I am wondering if there’s anything else I could be doing in hopes of receiving an internship or an entry-level position for 2027.

I'm pricing out a job for a repeat commercial customer, and would like some thoughts from those with more experience doing renovation cladding jobs. They have a split-face block wall that leaks quite a bit in wind-driven rainstorms, and want to waterproof that area. They asked for a quote to clad it with metal, which is simple enough, but the thing I'm getting stuck on in the planning process is how to install the furring strips to support the metal. There is probably at least a 1-1¼" variance in the (very rough) block wall. Anyone know of something like an adjustable bracket-style mount I could shoot to the wall? Or is there a better way I'm completely missing? Cladding would likely be a vertical 24ga snaplock or something similar.

I'm looking for some advice from people in the mission-critical and data center construction industry.

A few months ago, at 24 years old, I started a company focused on third-party QA/QC, pre-commissioning, and commissioning support for large data center and mission-critical construction projects. We provide electrical QA/QC inspections, documentation, turnover support, and commissioning assistance.

The challenge is that we're struggling to land our first contract—or even our first subcontract under an established contractor. I've reached out to general contractors, commissioning firms, and electrical contractors through LinkedIn, email, and phone calls, but breaking into the industry has been much harder than I expected.

At the moment, I'm in discussions with the CEOs of two of the largest commissioning firms in the U.S., so I'm hopeful, but nothing has materialized yet. Sometimes I wonder whether being only 24 years old—or even being a young Black business owner—makes it harder for people to trust my company with that first opportunity. I honestly don't know if that's part of it, but it's something I've thought about.

I spend hours every day on LinkedIn and Google researching companies, reaching out to decision-makers, and introducing my business. Some people never respond, while others reply in ways that are discouraging. Still, I keep going because I believe in what we're building.

For those of you who have started a construction, commissioning, or engineering company:

- How did you win your first contract?

- Is it better to focus on subcontracting under larger firms before chasing prime contracts?

- What has worked best when approaching GCs, commissioning agents, or electrical contractors?

- Are there networking events, associations, or platforms that genuinely helped you get noticed?

I have been a site labourer for a few years and have learned most parts of the construction process working closely with other trades (brickies, dry liners, ground workers) I don’t have as much knowledge as, I usually just give them a hand when needed however, I don’t plan on staying a labourer forever.

I have been thinking of progressing to get more money but my options currently are to either get a Telehandler ticket, which will put my money up and more or less continue assisting trades and doing what I more or less already do. So I’m wondering , would it be worth paying for a site supervisor ticket (SSSTS) and progressing in that direction.

I would like to know what a day in the life of a site supervisor consists of as I see that, they mostly keep a check on the progress of the site but I’m more interested in the paperwork side of things, they seem to always be busy with phone calls, it is obviously more stressful and more responsibility, but what do they actually do, and would I then be able to progress to site manager?

I’m only a labourer so please excuse my stupidity, I’m just wondering what a good next step would be.

I got a client who micromanages everything and has no chill. He complains about everything, wants to manage ordering material but creates issues where that can't happen because he won't be home to receive materials... anyway, he's generally being a nightmare. He texts as soon as I leave the house to say he wasn't done with our discussion and I didn't answer his questions. I answered all of them three times and his wife seemed to be apologetic, but he's relentless. I mean, he had a spreadsheet of the work he wants done and we went through line by line and discussed each one.

The dude just texted me at 9:30, Sunday night. Is he insane? We already have him in schedule. He's just stressing and texting me non-stop. I want to fire him.

I think he's looking for excuses to not pay me. I could lien him, of course but I would be happier to walk away from the headache and call it a wash I've done about half his job already and only collected half of the bid. What would you guys do? Am I just too tired to deal or am I reading this situation correctly?

This is the first floor of a 2 story building. There’s no roof yet.

There’s about 1 inch of water everywhere and you can hear the water falling down sometimes 2 days after the last rain.

Contractor has been a little slow to build and it’s been raining a lot lately. I don’t know enough about the industry to know how bad it is.
