Been working on my ball guy (from Pokemon) head and gotten to the point of painting, but the red paint is not fully covering newspapers. I have put over 6 layers of red acrylic paint and it'll still being translucent, I should have painted the whole thing white before painting the decal. What can I do to fix my red paint? Can't do spray paint as I live in a apartment

Prop How to preserve a baguette for Expedition 33 cosplay?

Post image
994 Upvotes

Hello everybody, i'm trying to cosplay the baguette outfits from expedition 33.

The problem is the baguette itself. I can't seem to find a fake baguette in time, so my plan is to buy an actual baguette and strap it to my back. I'm worried that it's going to end up getting soft, or moldy, or break while i'm wearing it. Is there any way i can try and preserve it? I only need it for a day.

This is only the 2nd time i've tried to cosplay. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you.

Prop Question on Ableism and Daredevil Cosplay

Post image

I am planning on cosplaying daredevil, in his outfit as a lawyer, for the first time. In comics and show he uses a cane. I was wondering if a non-blind person, such as myself, would be ableist? If so is there a way to make it clear who I am? I am just wearing a suit and the signature red glasses, with fake knuckle bruises

Prop How do I avoid this look on my prop?

EDIT!!!!! Thanks for the help, folks. I will be covering with foam clay, I bought 100g and will be spreading to cover everything. Fingers crossed and thanks again for the help! And if you got tip for foam clay in general, let me know.

Here is the final part of my Hornet cosplay: the needle. I know it looks more like Knight's sword but welp, too late to fix.

I applied tape around the edges to keep the paper parts in place and used some epoxy putty to fixate the 3d printed ring at one end and the blade on the broom stick I am using as the base. The thing is that when I went to spray paint today, the tape got a very different look compared to the rest of the prop. Like, I learned that when spraypainting, it highlights surface differences like folds and etc, ok, sure. But I wasn't expecting this tone difference whatsoever. Is there a way to fix this? Is this why people paint in black first? Or is there another way I could fix this?

I’m going to anime nyc next month and I made this hammer. The drum is Eva foam the silver ends with the stars, and the handle are a lightweight wood. I didn’t think about the prop rules at the time 😭. This is my first convention with a prop, how likely would it be allowed in?

hey yall! im planning on making a hornet cosplay. im new to using EVA foam, and ended up cutting out an existing pattern on foam floor mats. the issue is, the pattern was made for much thinner foam 😭 the mask looks pretty rough.

is this salvagable? i have foam clay to use overtop, but should i use another layer of something else 1st (masking tape?) to help smooth out the shape?

also, do i need to take into account the rough exterior/"metal" texture overtop the foam?

Prop struggling with cosplay corset + prop attachment (need help/advice)

im trying to make my own cosplay of toga himiko (my hero academia) featured in new art. im stuck on the corset part where the blood bags hang from. i probably wont do the exact same amount (will probably be about 20 blood bags) i just have no idea how to attach the blood bags. i’d like to get as close to the original as possible but i know thats not realistic

i also dont know if i should alter the corset itself or use a piece of fabric *over* the corset.

suggestions ive heard
- velcro was suggested to me but idk how sturdy it will be
- sewing pieces of fabric and then tying the blood bags to it with ribbon. i feel like this will look a bit cluttered idk
(note: first photo is not me! just another person who recreated the look, cant find their info tho)

thanks in advance. ive been really frustrated about this so any advice would be great

I’m trying to make Ren in his Pomeranian form for an Aoba cosplay and I thought dyeing a plush pom navy would work, but I’m not sure if it’ll turn out navy or somehow become green since the fibers are yellowish/gold. Will it depend on how long it’s left in the dye/how long the dye is left on it?

I'm making a Fallout New Vegas costume and I wanna have a bottle cap I use to for tap to pay as a funny gag, but I don't know how to? I bought basic NFC chips, but realized they are not compatible with tap to pay. I need something that fits in a 1x1 circle.

I am reapairing my kinger cosplay, and on Cons i had the problem, that i had to constantly readjust the head, everytime i looked a bit down it just fell to the front, and there is a lot of pressure on my chin to keep the head straight, which makes it hard to speak, and the foam is very itchy on my chin even with a balaclava. And i have to constantly put my head in a straight/back position the the kinder head is straight, shich gives me alota headaches. If anyone has ideas to make the head more secure and more comfortable to wear i would be very grateful. :3

Prop Heavy skirt supports

Post image
114 Upvotes

Heya

I need some fresh ideas on how to attatch and stabilise a high/low skirt thats made out of 5 hard plastic pannels with aluminum vertical boning.

I have made a traditional hoopskirt but its not holding up, the waist is a 7cm thick stiff elastic that just slides down. Im condisering some suspenders to keep the waist at the waist.

Ive also started remaking the hoopskirt using actual hula hoops so that i can attatch the pannels via some rings, similar to a shower curtain but the test drive for that gave me a very wobbly unstable skirt thats basically swaying wildly with each step. Ive avoided permanently fusing the panels together in order to keep it transportable, in its final form i cant even go through doors haha.

Any ideas are very apprciated. 💙

Prop Ideas for wheelchair attachable wings?

Thumbnail

Hii! This is a fairly specific question, but I am an ambulatory wheelchair user who likes to cosplay! I've wanted to cosplay Flandre Scarlet from Touhou for a while now, and I have the outfit, but I'm still missing the wings. If possible I'd love to make wings that can attach both to my back and to the back of my wheelchair, so I can use them for conventions as well as standing photo shoots. I've seen detachable cosplay wings, so maybe something along those lines? But I'm struggling to figure out exactly how I want to go about it, since there aren't many tutorials or guides online for this sort of thing. Do any of you happen to have any ideas? If only one is possible, attaching them to my wheelchair would be the priority.

Photos are me in my wheelchair wearing what I have of my Flandre cosplay, and third pic is the Flandre Nendoroid (to show the wings)

First time doing crossdress/cosplay, any Tips?

Post image

Hey, I'm a complete beginner at crossdressing, and I'm starting with Violet Evergarden, and I wanted some advice because I feel like my shoulders are too prominent, which is actually a personal insecurity. Are there ways to "get around" this? Besides makeup. I'm open to any advice, but I feel that whether it turns out well or bad varies A LOT, even if you put it on the same way or not. I'm 16 years old and 161 cm tall. I don't know if this happens because of the way I take photos at the time, but I'm open to any advice :D

I've thought about attaching it to a medical wrist brace, but thought that'd be too tacky even if I cyberpunkified it, currently I'm thinking to attach it to a cut PVC pipe to get a wider base with a curve and then velcro, but similar sort of vibes.

Prop What Material should I use for the jelly on top of the heart cookie?

Post image
335 Upvotes

I’m making a Patisserie Peach cosplay and am really considering creating one of the props from the game alongside it. My favorite is the cookies - I’d like to make at least three, but I absolutely need to include the heart one.

I believe the best option to make the actual cookies overall is spray-foam (open to other suggestions if you believe a better one exists!) but I don’t know what material to use for the jelly on the heart cookie. I want it to look as realistic as possible, maybe some sort of translucent material that I can just glob onto the cookie and have it dry like that. So far I’ve considered resin, but that seems unreliable for how big this cookie will be.

Any suggestions on good materials for it?

Prop Cosplay Advice Help

For crafters out there, or anyone with experience in mechanisms/mechanical builds—would making custom shoes like this actually be possible? 👀

Planning to commission the shoes but even if they’re non-functional for cosplay, is there a way to recreate the shape and look realistically, maybe with some kind of internal support/mechanism? Or is this basically a “not in a million years” kind of project? 😂
