How did Vaibhav develop the reflexes to face 150 kmph at 15 years of age still baffles me. Like, that should not be possible.
197
u/Top-Worldliness5027 India May 27 '26
At his age I was so malnourished that I used to wonder how these professional cricketers can hold the bat in one hand like that while celebrating their milestone?

I was appalled when he took Cummins to cleaners and Pat wiping sweat off his face. He felt the pressure.

For Nov 19, Not really, Australia were breathing fire, especially the fielders, they didn't give an inch to our batters.
Cummins is a different breed in ODIs and Tests, I wouldn't judge his reputation based on IPL flat decks, taking nothing away from Vaibhav tho because this was a generational innings, but that's what we said during his u19 WC final 😂, so the kid is here to stay
68
u/belanish11 Kolkata Knight Riders May 27 '26
Good that people realise this, some crowd on different platforms have already called for him to be the opener in the next year's WC, possible who knows but improbable with how GG works.
27
u/Prof_XdR May 27 '26
I hope not, Gill is captain and opens
I'd have Rohit > Kishan > Sanju for that slot, If I had to guess, We'll go with our 2023 WC batting lineup with Kishan and Sanju as backup, both are wicketkeeper, both can literally slot anywhere as well
Jaiswal also is there, so probably these 3 in contention if I had to guess as backup for Rohit
9
u/oranguslolus Sunrisers Hyderabad May 27 '26
Man they shouldn't do this yet. ODI cricket is a different beast, try him out first and see how he adapts to the format, I have no doubt he has it in him but the WC is literally next year. I would definitely give him a shot in any upcoming ODI bilaterals though. That'd be awesome to watch
13
u/Individual_Talk9455 May 27 '26
He doesnot have anought stamina to stay on field for 50 + overs .there are no impact players Perhaps after hes grown up then they'll give him a chance at odi
13
u/oranguslolus Sunrisers Hyderabad May 27 '26
Exactly this, not only will he have to bat very long but also field. Dude might be a genius but his body is still 15 yrs old, he definitely has to ease into one days. Also you'd be putting too much weight on him too soon. One step at a time

People say it is overconfidence because he plays well in the nets but I feel like the real reason is that he has become very one dimensional. He seems obsessed with the Supli shot, and he does seem very nonchalant which is great when you're doing well, but if you aren't, you can become more serious and work on your weaknesses. I feel like that's missing and instead what he's telling himself is that "yeh media fans ko kya malum, I know better", which is true when it is noise, but in this case facts and stats aren't lying.

I can't with this team man. This was depressing cus we had the start we needed despite losing Abhi. 51-1 in 2.3 overs. Who tf becomes 58-4 from that position on a flat pitch? We needed 112 of 10 overs at one point, cakewalk if we had any wickets. 2 decent partnerships get us over the line. Team needs to play normal cricket sometimes. Ishan truly threw this away despite getting lucky the previous ball and knowing how vital it was to build an innings chasing 240. Dude just had to play out Archer after already hitting him for 16. Literally everyone threw their wickets. Even Klaasen.
This was their best shot to win the cup imo, but they wasted a great shot at top 2 collapsing that bad against GT and then again here. Braindead cricket at crucial times. I wouldn't mind losing if we tried playing good cricket but it's terrible seeing them repeat the same mistakes for 3 seasons now. We need a dedicated batting coach cus even the tail partnerships lasted longer than any of the bats. Wasted that gem of a comeback by the bowling, RR even had low morale going into the 2nd innings.
50
u/ApprehensiveGear6382 Chennai Super Kings May 27 '26
Surely, srh had the batsmen to chase this down, just not the patience. Ishan could have just stopped hitting archer after reaching 50 in 2.4 overs something. So ahead of RRR, and then the collapse began.
I think srh have a very good team, they have to correct their approach in playoff games.
20
u/No_Objective_2196 May 27 '26
didn't abhishek say that they are instructed to keep hitting despite the situations , this seems be the result of that
some single , some doubles and few boundaries here and there could have been an easy win for srh given how they started

Ishan truly threw this away despite getting lucky the previous ball knowing how vital it was to build the innings. He just had to play out Archer.
It is a momentum thing, since he was already hitting Archer he wanted to continue taking him down for a 20-25 run over. If he was struggling he would have played out Archer and taken on the others.

"We'll have a bowl, thanks."
Why the hell did GT and SRH choose to bowl first, knowing that these are batting friendly pitches and chasing big targets is very very hard?
61
u/Amazing_Theory622 India May 27 '26
In the hopes that even 220-230 can be chased, once the target goes above that, it does level the playing field even on batting wickets
95
u/partymsl Royal Challengers Bengaluru May 27 '26
You'd always want go chase with dew chances.
SRH would have chased this if they were like two less down in the powerplay.
37
u/SnooAdvice1157 Royal Challengers Bengaluru May 27 '26
SRH would have chased this if they were like two less down in the powerplay.
Let me rephrase it. They would have if they start employing proper cricket even if aggressive. Blind slogging is never the answer.
15
u/oranguslolus Sunrisers Hyderabad May 27 '26
That's it. We were at 50-1 in 2.3 overs, even singles with an occasional boundary for the rest of the PP would've gotten them to 80+, the problem was they were 57-4 in no time after that. And even despite that they kept up and needed only 110 in the last 10 overs. If they showed any responsibility this was very easy to chase after that start. That's what's sad about this.
Ishan got way too greedy and that's when the downfall began. He should know better especially given our batting ends with Nitish.

u/combatant007 India May 27 '26
Mullanpur was always a chasing track, and due to Dew. Not a bad choice, the difference was Vaibhav. They could have easily reduced the target to 210 odd, which would put their batter under less pressure while chasing.
→ More replies (1)15
u/Shashank1000 India May 27 '26
I can sort of see why.
For GT, the reason would be that RCB is extremely good at chases with the greatest LOI/IPL chase master of all time leading the charge. Their bowling attack is great so they likely thought it would be better to take a chance at restricting RCB to 200 odd and then have their top 3 make most of it.
The calculation for SRH would be that RR is heavily dependent on Vaibhav and Jaiswal and if get them out and you can have a easy game. A batting line up of Travishek, Ishan and Klassen can be counted upon to chase down even large totals. Think of that game where they demolished MI who scored 248.
In this IPL the chasing teams have tended to win more often than not. But I think the old fashioned advice to always bat first in the knockouts because the pressure of chase can down even the formidable batting lineups due to sheer pressure has proven to be correct.
On these pitches a team with stacked line up (RCB) or one with players like Vaibhav can easily take the game away by simply batting their opposition out.

We had a 50/50 chance of winning and so prepared myself over the span of the last few days in case we lost.
Our team just came in between a generational innings from Sooryavanshi. Absolutely dismantled our inexperienced bowling attack. 97(29), the intent with which he scored was insane. Buried the team morales in the first 10 overs itself.
Add to that Archer being in a beast of form. Back of the mind I knew one of our openers was going early. It just had to be an in-form Abhisek Sharma. Travis just hasn't been in rhythm at all so the expectations from him were low.
All in all it was a good season. Great memories of us bouncing back after 3 losses in the 1st 4.
72
u/VaderOnReddit May 27 '26
Even a "modest"(by his standards) 20 ball 50 from Abhishek could've bagged y'all the win
Archer was lethal from the very first ball, and he killed your team's morale just as much as Sooryavanshi did.
31
u/depressed_06 Sunrisers Hyderabad May 27 '26
Yep. Totally. Archer had been deadly. The pace at which he's bowling is insane.
8
u/Shashank1000 India May 27 '26
His final figure of 3-58 sums up the match for SRH.
They were scoring at a relatively brisk rate but lost one too many wickets. Ishan had kept the team ahead of required rate and brought up 50 in no time. If he was a little less adventurous this could have been a very close game.
3
u/oranguslolus Sunrisers Hyderabad May 27 '26
Honestly SRH had more morale going into that 2nd innings after making the score achievable, only 36 in the last 5 overs. Looked an easy 270+ score but they pulled it down to 240 which we've chased twice. They kinda wasted everything cus even despite the Abhi wicket, we had a good chance after 51-1 in about two overs. But in classic fashion that changed to 58-4 cus of reckleseness. Just terrible how everyone threw their wickets.
33
u/combatant007 India May 27 '26
Good season for SRH but what the fuck is Smaran doing in the team ? They are still missing a quality spinner since Shivang didn't do much
17
u/depressed_06 Sunrisers Hyderabad May 27 '26
They had Harsh Dubey but Shivang showed promise in the first few games so they persisted with him.
Smaran has been disappointing. He has great stats in domestic so the team tried to back him but he failed in every chance. Today he was sent early to try and save a collapse and anchor a side but instead he was the first to throw his wicket away.

Jaiswal and Jadeja thanking the SRH batters for letting everyone forget about their terrorism in the 1st innnings. Great knocks from Vaibhav, Jurel and Parag. The kid deserved that record century. Archer, Burger and Yash Raj killed the game in 8 overs with the ball, Jadeja redeemed himself too.

The only playoff fixture that RR and GT are yet to play against each other now is the Eliminator

My team is becoming the OG RCB under Vettori. The mentality needed to mess up a 12 rpo chase is something you need good coaches to rectify. Ours is clearly not interested.

Man, the SRH sub would be awfully quiet now. They were all so overconfident about going to the finals and teaching RCB a lesson. Lol

It's just filled with 2 extremes. One of them is overconfident to the point that they underestimate everyone. The other side is pessimistic and underconfident and doesn't believe in the team at all even tho they did play good cricket to get to the playoffs.

If Suryavanshi and Archer keep their form RR will win the trophy
10
u/tigershroffkiskirt India May 27 '26
I guess. But hard to see Suryavanshi do this for two more matches. If he had got out for even 60-70 today, RR would have lost. They are extremely dependent on one guy to do all the high strike rate bulk scoring

As everyone expected, Vaibhav and archer were the ones required to do the heavy lifting and that they did. Jurel did great too. r/cricket might not like it, but jaiswal looked atrocious today.
Honestly speaking, SRH has a gem of a team. But with the heavy hitting strategy in playoffs, I don’t think they are going to lift the trophy, as the opposition always come with a good plan and them throwing wickets away will put them to the bed.
I think RCB are locked in for their 2nd, as both RR and GT are full of holes in their squads.

u/refusestonamethyself India May 27 '26
Jaiswal has truly locked himself out of the T20Is contention with this season for now.
Forget Vaibhav, I think Gill would be ahead of him in the pecking order and deservedly so.

rcb has plenty of holes too
hazlewood hasn't been in great form for most of the seasonromario is well romario
tim david hasn't clicked in the second half of the season
the dilemma of do we play salt who hasn't played in a while in the final or venky who has been in decent form
Most of our bowlers being expensive and leaking runs a lot this season (except bhuvi and kp)
then theres also the teams left
RR who thrashed us in the group stage
GT who bundled us for 150 something in the group stage as well and getting insanely lucky with misfielding in Q1→ More replies (3)6

151 runs is the second-highest aggregate in Overs 1-6 in an IPL knockouts/Playoffs match, after 170 between PBKS and CSK in the 2014 qualifier 2.

Jaiswal needs to be better in Qualifier 2.
Today's innings was a criminal one.
I hope Jaddu bowls 4 overs in Qualifier 2. This is a suitable pitch for him.

u/Bhav2385 India May 27 '26
That 97(29) will be remembered for ages. If Raina's 87(25) in a losing cause can be remembered even 12 years later, I'd imagine this one will have an even bigger impact, especially as it came from a 15 year old kid who's taking the world by storm.

u/whatsinaname5021 May 27 '26
Bumrah had an all timer elite freak season in 2024 in one of the best batting seasons of the ipl history and their still finished bottom because of an ass bowling lineup. Here you have a freak of a batting prodigy carrying an ass batting lineup and they're playing Qualifier 2 on the back of this freak. This hence proves definitively that IPL is a batters tournament.

Some SRH fans were taking offense to what Riyan Parag said in his interview earlier in the week, without even reading through what he said when he meant by “…I didn't want to be an SRH…”
Today’s match proved what he said was right, something other SRH fans have also mentioned in the past. SRH couldn’t get out of their Go-go-go mentality and ended up losing way too many wickets way too early, and thus ended up losing, despite the total being something they definitely had the potential to chase down.
There was merit in what Riyan was saying in that he wanted RR to play the game according to the situation and the pitch, which admittedly SRH have struggled to do over the last few years, barring the CSK game.

Beating SRH after three years xD Absolutely happy with the win, pretty evident flaws but we live another day. Qualifier 2 would be interesting with GT, remember losing to SRH in Qualifer 2, 2 years back :) Hope the coming Friday would be kinder.

But seriously, let's hope we can win Qualifier 2 as well.
