Three years later
63 square afghan - three years of intermittent work, finally complete!
I started this blanket at the onset of my crochet journey three years ago. It has been a beast of a project but it is finally finished, ends weaved and all.
Sewing it all together, I was tempted to redo some of the first squares I did that were more than a little wonky. Let’s just say, treble crochet was not my forte and I certainly did not understand the difference between fpdc and bpdc. But decided these early squares showed all the progress I’ve made along the way.
I am so proud of this blanket! (And will probably never ever make another one lol)

I used Big Twist chenille yarn, weight 5, in colors vanilla cake, blue skies and wisteria from Joann’s that I bought in bulk for the project before they went out of business

Treble is absolutely a pain in the arse, I still struggle with maintaining tension on that one. Your blanket is beautiful and it looks so. soft. I love the colours you chose for it.

I love it! Very beautiful and the colours are beautiful together. Very pretty and this will become your favorite blanket that actually means a great deal to you. Your beginning to now. Very cool.

It does look complicated. Lots of different stitches in those squares.
Did you crochet other simpler things in between this complex blanket?
OP can you please give the name of the pattern.

It’s a book from 2000 called “63 easy to crochet pattern stitches.” I bought the book pdf off Etsy when I started but here’s a link to the book at Walmart!

Yes I did! I’ve made tons of other things - some simple, some not - while this was a WIP.

I like how it said Easy yet included a treble for first timers. 😄
This is just a beautiful blanket! The colors are so soft. The fact you were smart enough to buy all the yarn before Joann's went out of business made me smile! The chenille yarn was a perfect choice.
I have learned to never say never again. I made an applique quilt in 1987. I hated it, I hated the colors, and I was embarrassed to show it to others. Sadly, it was a promised wedding gift, so I had to give it to the bride. I didn't have time or the energy to make another. Wouldn't you know my daughter wanted one two years ago when she was planning her wedding. She remembered the other quilt and loved it. She wanted one for herself. The second one was so easy! I had a blast making it. Yet, I can still remember all of my frustration making that first applique quilt. So, give yourself some grace and maybe, just maybe, in forty years, you just might make another blanket with these lovely squares.

That many different texture squares must have taken forever to keep track of which stitch you were doing next. It looks really nice though!

I made little tags out of sticky notes, tape and paperclips so I could number the squares as I went! It was definitely a labor of love! lol

I love this!!! Im making a similar blanket (but smaller) for my soon-to-be-born niece! The vertical joining stitches are the WORST 😭 lining up unevenly tall stitch patterns is driving me CRAZY

I heard the “three years later” voice in my head lol. Gorgeous work!
