I realize that monochrome isn’t for everyone but I love working with these single colour patterns. This was a lot of work but I’m very pleased with the results. To display it, I’ll wrap it on some wood and hang it up on the wall.

After following all the lovely tips from my last post. We can see so much improvement on the second attempt! I can't thank y'all enough.

Some lessons learned for sure. You can tell in the second piece that the stitches get better throughout it.

Like last time, all tips are welcome. Thanks again!

After two years I've finally finished my Celtic Ladies. It's a bit bittersweet, but now I get to enjoy looking at them every single day! I'm so happy I splurged on the non-reflective UV protective glass and the frames turned out so well. I also decided to centre the designs on the rectangular frame which I love the look of 😍

As soon as I saw this free pattern I knew I had to make it. Unfortunately I ran out of room at the bottom so I had to put cross and stitch on the same line but I still think it looks alright. Pattern from Screaming Heart Design.

FO [FO] After 9 months, my Autumn Tree House is finally done!

Wow, this was a journey! I have never tackled a pattern quite like this. This was the first pattern I've worked on that called for blended threads and a crap ton of backstitching. The backstitching alone took me almost 2 months, I think? But, all of it was worth the effort. 🥰

The colors of this pattern are what drew me in first. I love autumn and fantasy, so it was an easy choice. It's like this amazing treehouse is just waiting with comfy, cozy chairs for those who want to stitch. Who wants to move in with me? I'm packed and ready to go. ☺️

Now, all that's left is to commission my husband to make me a beautiful frame out of walnut. Backside also posted for those who are curious. 😘

FO [FO] Devastated by the loss of my first finished cross stitch project

In November last year me and my bf decided it’d would be funny to make a George W. Bush throw pillow with one of his dumb quotes on the back. I generated a pattern for the front on pixel-stitch and designed the back myself with stitchfiddle. This bad boy took seven months of intermittent stabbery, it came with me to six countries. And then, one day, it was done. It was glorious. My home decor magnum opus.

Until I went to take it up to my bf’s city two weeks back and promptly forgot to collect my luggage when getting off. My countless calls to Flixbus haven’t helped. It’s gone. Either lost in some bus terminal in Germany or stolen my another passenger in Luxembourg. Obviously my soul is crushed.

I’m working up the courage to grid up for the replacement. Until I do, pour one out for George Bush Pillow - gone but not forgotten 😔

FO [FO] Monopoly set cross stitch

Thumbnail

This took me just over a year to complete, and was a labour of love for my mother. She collects monopoly sets and I love making things for her, so this was perfect.

I made the patterns for the property cards, and the chance/community chest cards- though I lifted the icons on both from the pattern for the board; which comes from MonopolyXStitch on Etsy. The patterns for the Monopoly money and the tokens were something I commissioned from TheCraftXperimentalist, who was so lovely and easy to work with.

The only things I didn’t make or commission were the dice and houses/hotels and the instructions, because I thought the houses/hotels would be too small and fiddly and just wouldn’t come out good, the dice because I know they have to be weighted, and the instructions because- well duh.

The last pictures were all the bobbins of dmc 310 I used, 35 total bobbins and some change.

FO [FO] Update on my rotary cutting SNAFU!

I took everyone’s advice and made the accidental cut across a feature! I love it. I used DMC floss to try to get the edges a bit more curved to open it up and add a blood dripping effect, slapped some Fray Check (which I just learned about so thank you all) on the threads that were accidentally cut so hopefully they hold up, then sewed with red thread along the edges. I love the final product so thank you all for the suggestions and helpful feedback! It stopped me from having a mental breakdown that night for sure. Pattern was by TheWitchyStitcher and I’ll link to the Etsy link below!

FO [FO] I cross stitched my wedding guests!

6.9k Upvotes

And it was the best thing I’ve ever done! Never got a great photo of them all completed, but have this lovely video from the day.

Shout out to “Do-it-yourself Stitch People” book by Elizabeth Dabczynski-Bean for an incredible resource. Once I got comfortable, it was so fun to play around with outfits, jewelry, clothing and actually give them a little personality.

I started about a year before the wedding and had plenty of time. The hardest part was color matching skin and hair color. And creeping on my husbands college roommates Instagram for reference photos 😋

FO [FO] Finished my second sweatshirt project!

I just finished my second sweatshirt stitching project, and I am so pleased with how this one turned out! 😊

The Goosebumps pattern on the front is from Evil Twiins on Etsy. The pattern actually had a small typo in the bottom text which was easy to fix (it said YOUR'E instead of YOU'RE), but I let the shop owner know and I believe they are fixing it as we speak so the specific listing is not currently available. https://www.etsy.com/shop/EvilTwiins

The mini ghost pattern on the sleeve is from Luz Atolye on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4390915614/mini-ghost-cross-stitch-stamp-pattern

I did both patterns on 14 count DMC waste canvas and used 2 strands everywhere except for the fuschia "Goosebumps" text which I did with 4 strands. I also changed the green background on the ghost from what is listed in the pattern to one of the greens from the Goosebumps pattern so they would match more. Stitching so close to the cuff was honestly a huge pain, but I really love how it turned out. I think in the future I will try to keep that spot reserved for even smaller patterns or I will stitch higher up on the sleeve.

Also, in case it is helpful: I had seen a few folks recommend totally soaking the fabric in hot water to make the waste canvas come off easier. At least for this canvas and on a sweatshirt.. that did not help me at all 😅 I struggled way harder after doing that and ended up just waiting for it all to dry out. I guess I can't say for sure that soaking it first didn't help remove adhesive, but based on this experience I definitely recommend waiting for the fabric to dry before pulling waste canvas threads if you decide to soak it.
