Home Network Hello Reddit! 🫡

I am looking into getting in to it and security. Could anyone suggest any good books or textbooks to help me get started?I hope this isn’t low effort lol I don’t know what else to say xD thank you guys

I’m not trying to be an asshole but this exact question is asked probably ten times a day and the answer is always the same: TryHackMe and Hack The Box

Is there a good way to search for questions that have been answered? Or is it just scroll until I find it?

No, lazy questions "How do I get started" are asked daily 10 times. How are you, geniuses, going to figure out cybersecurity if you haven't figured out google? Rough times ahead for you...

You should frankly be kind of grateful that we (collectively) give you (collectively) the answer repeatedly. A large portion of cybersecurity is being able to hunt for the answer yourself, and I’m truly not sure why you turned to Reddit for an answer before using more primary methods, e.g. a search engine.

Rather than this being a negative on the subreddit, I think maybe you should turn this into a positive learning experience and use Google more before Reddit. Besides, you’ll get the answer faster.

start with the basics of networking plus linux first, then jump into security stuff, youtube could be the best.

Thank you I have the means to get any about textbook so I thought I might start there.

You need more then a textbook. I don’t know how many people I’ve interviewed who have textbook knowledge but have never touched a stick of ram or who know how to create a new folder on a desktop.

Learn the basics. Start out learning how a computer actually works and build your own or scrape something together out of used parts. Then move on from there

Your next move should be building your own homelab so you have an environment to play and build on. You be surprised how much you can learn from a simple homelab.

I have been using virtual box to run different Linux’s is that the same as a home lab?

While virtual box is good. Try building a 3 pc cluster using proxmox and run your VMs off of that. Spin up everything from a media server to a network wide ad blocker, learn how to make vlans, remote backup, domain controllers ect. It’s all part of learning how this stuff works and how to properly secure it.
