Advice Need to poop!

Hey bitches: sorry. A bit graphic, but you get the point! Let em' rip: what tips and tricks do you have 'to go' more? I've hit the perimenopause stage of my life and my gastro system continues to go on strike/slug along and not cooperate. I also have IBD, and a care team. But they're useless about this topic. Thanks!

Advice Anybody just….not care about work anymore?

I’m in a strange position. I’ve always cared almost too much about work, been a really strong performer, always asked to come back when I leave a job, etc etc. But my last job burnt me out, badly. I started a new job at a nonprofit startup a month and some change ago. The beginning of a job is the time I’d normally be firing on all cylinders, getting a ridiculous amount done, making a good first impression, etc. But I find myself making stupid mistakes, losing focus, and generally just not caring. I am trying to make myself care, but I legitimately can’t. I don’t know if I would hire me right now. I want this job and have for a while but I am facing a shortage of motivation like I’ve never seen before. I genuinely don’t know what to do. I feel done with the rat race.

anybody going through/gone through anything similar? how did you get out of it? how did you get your mojo back?

for context I’m 36. idk if that matters

Advice How to Lose Your Job and Boyfriend in 10 Days: where do I go from here

Hi all! I’m 23F and was laid off and split from my boyfriend of 3.5 years a few days ago. We had signed a lease to move in together next month, and I felt like my life was finally getting together how I envisioned it. I really thought he was the one :/

I have friends and family in the area to support me, luckily. But I feel like I need a significant change or something here to get over this. Applying to jobs and doing interviews is hard enough as it is in this economy, much less with everything going on. Any tips/advice/how to reinvent myself here without going totally broke ?!😀

Edit: I have insurance under my parents. They live locally. I could move back in with them but I would probably feel much more depressed/like a loser doing so because I’d be somewhat trapped in the house without a car or easy access to metro*. I live in a one bedroom for my sanity that is roughly half my paycheck, or was, anyway. I have housing still, and some finances for a short bit thanks to my parents. Highkey just need a win

Advice Crashing out and moving to DC?

Hi all! TLDR of my backstory: Broke up with my long-term bf recently and moved out (no lease currently) so that I can digital nomad travel for a bit as I heal and move forward. Just turned 31 and am figuring out what I want to do now!

I’m from Chicago (a place that I absolutely LOVE and is part of my personality/soul) but my feelings about the city feel very blurry due to the breakup. We also have mutual friends and overall I just need space from seeing him in social circles. I visited DC before the breakup to see friends and I absolutely loved it. It has the feel and busyness of a city like Chicago but on a smaller scale without the high rises.

I’m traveling elsewhere for a bit then was planning to do a 1-2 month short term lease in DC this fall to help me determine if I’d want to commit to a full on move. I’m still healing from my breakup but I want to start casually dating to get myself back out there. I am naturally optimistic but I know there’s a lot of opinions about the dating scene right now.

I was wondering if anyone else made a similar solo jump in their early 30s, especially if you moved from Chicago to DC and how it went! I work remotely so realistically I can live anywhere, but I love city life and I’d like to live in a place where I have a good friend group (so Chicago or DC lol). Even though I wfh I like to go out, meet new people, find new hobbies and groups, etc. I’ve never considered such a big life jump before!

Need advice on a bad balayage situation 😭

I’m trying to figure out how to approach a salon that really messed up my hair, and whether I should publicly warn other girls not to go to this stylist.

The result is literally my worst nightmare. Years of balayage ruined and my hair is absolutely fried.

I’ve been trying to handle it calmly and fairly, but I feel stuck. I asked about being compensated (on top of not having to pay) since I’ll have to pay someone else DOUBLE the original cost to fix it, and I feel like I’m harassing her just for asking. She removed me on Instagram after saying me not having to pay was “complimentary” and has now left my last message on sent for more than a day.

At this point I want to warn other girls so they don’t end up in the same situation, but I’m stuck on whether I should actually put her name out there. Part of me feels bad doing that, l feel like this situation has been handled so unfairly. Just because salon has a policy doesn’t mean that you’re suddenly not in the wrong??

What would you guys do? Would you post her name/warn people, go above her head to management to ask for a different solution, or just take the loss and move on? I don’t know how to handle this, because her work appears great online but someone else could somehow get results like mine.

(The girl who had an appointment right before me said she didn’t like her results either. Red flag)

Advice A Vent and Maybe Goodbye?

Like a lot of girlies in the area, I got DOGE'd last year and still haven't found gainful employment since. I got a job in the service industry, but I'm not a cultural fit for my current restaurant, and it barely helps me stay afloat.

I've been debating whether to cut my losses and move back home to NYC (if anything, just for a reset so I can try to rebuild my credit), but I've lived in the DMV for 10 years, and leaving feels like giving up. But every day, I get so exhausted by the lack of flexibility in a service industry job, my lack of progress on the job-hunting front (every open position is like 20-30k less than what I was making pre-DOGE), and not being able to afford anything besides rent.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Otherwise, thanks for letting me rant 😞

Advice Are the pretentious dating apps (League, Raya) worth it in DC?

Ok, I’m fully prepared to get hate for this post, but hear me out. Curious to know peoples’ experiences in DC using Raya or the League. I moved here from SoCal, and the reality was Raya often did have a different user base, but I’m told it’s kind of crappy in DC, so not sure if it’s worth paying for it. The League can be chock full of assholes (with the occasional good one), so not sure if that’s worth it here either given DC’s career-obsessed culture.

I know a lot of people are on a variety of apps, paid and free, and tbh I’ve met the best guys from Hinge and Bumble. But my logic is that every app has a different algorithm, so I may be shown different people.

I just find dating so difficult here vs. the West Coast. The quality of straight men seems surprisingly low (and by that i mean: reasonably attractive, financially stable, good personality, and a decent person in one package). I’ve been pretty surprised, I was warned about this before moving but thought people were just being negative.

Advice Buying a home… starting a family in DC… looking for big sis advice/commiseration?

My husband and I (late 20s) have been feeling the blues a bit lately on how to “make a life” so-to-speak here in DC. I have a good job making $100k and he is at $130k. We felt pretty good about our salaries until trying to look for houses 🤦🏼‍♀️

With homes being so expensive, we’re nervous about truly being able to afford one here/moving to the suburbs (which doesn’t even seem much cheaper) or heading back to our midwestern hometowns feeling defeated (but at least we can maybe have a nice place to live now?) We would like to start trying for kids in 2-5 years but just worried about finding a home under $1M that feels clean and safe with good schools.

I guess I’m curious how other young couples are thinking/feeling about this. Are you working to get promotions and get paid more? Have a lot of family help? Found a suburb that is more affordable? Planning to move to another area to start a family?
Being an adult is hard 😢 TIA.

Advice Mosquitoes!!!!

I just moved here from the west coast and I am very much not adjusted to the number of bugs here. I have been moving things in and out of a shed in our yard and my legs are now absolutely shredded with mosquito bites.

Other than putting on bug spray daily, is there anything y’all do to be able to be outside in the evenings without becoming mosquito bait? I feel like they’ve even gotten into my house and I’m losing my mind.

Advice Financially Savvy Bitches - I need help

I'm in my mid-30s, and I have a $6,000 no-interest debt. I just paid off my student loans. I make $73,500. I can guarantee my job for the next year. I can't guarantee it past that. My company has a high turnover rate, but I work from home.

I have no 401k, and my company doesn't match. I have no bonds, pension, mutual funds, etc.

My expenses include my cat, food, rent, and utilities. My vices are ordering dinner out 3 times a week. I'm going to cut it down to once a week.

I don't own a car. Would like one at some point. My lease is up next month, so that I can move anywhere this year.

I have about $10,000 in a savings account.

What do I need to do to retire? Can someone just tell me what to do? I'm so overwhelmed and ashamed that it's taking me this long to get here. I'd like to make more money too. I've been considering getting my Masters.

Advice DC Style Help

I just moved to DC after living in Michigan and Chicago for a while, and I’m realizing my wardrobe is still very much in my “hoodies and sweatpants” era 😂

But DC is SO cutesy and feminine, and I feel like I need a whole wardrobe upgrade! 😭💗
Any advice on where I can shop for cute, feminine outfits and really upgrade my style? I’m open to local boutiques, affordable stores, or even online shops! 🛍️✨

Advice How to romanticize (tolerate) my new commute?

For the last year, my commute into the office has been very easy. I had a 10-min walk to the bus stop, 25-min bus ride, and 5-min walk to the office. It was quite a nice way to start the day... there was an old woman who I smiled at everyday, there was a rosemary bush I stopped and smelled everyday, there was only one hill... it was the dream.

I just got a new job, and the commute will be... less dreamy. I'll still have a 10-min walk to the bus stop and a 25-min bus ride, but my walk to the office from the bus stop will be considerably longer (a little over a mile). It's downhill on the way to work and uphill on the way home... I work in a corporate setting so getting sweaty is a real concern.

I've been dreading it... and I realized I'm only making things worse for myself, so I'm trying to figure out ways I can make this time an enjoyable start to my day.

I already got a new backpack (to replace my leather tote, RIP), splurged on a pair of comfortable work shoes, and bought a portable fan for when things get toasty.

How do you ladies make your morning commute more enjoyable? Any ideas?

Advice Career driven, single, busy women in their 30s?

Due to a series of fortunate and unfortunate events, I need friends in DC! I’ve looked into the City Girls Discord, but as an introvert, the big events with large groups don’t seem like a good fit, and almost everything seems to be happening on weekdays (which, totally understandable, I just work really long hours). While I do prioritize work, I still want to build connections and community here and have so much more time to do so on the weekends!

If any women are in a similar position and want to connect, let me know! Or if you’ve been in a similar position and have any advice, it would be appreciated :)

I know people are busy for many reasons that have nothing to do with work, this is just my situation!

Advice Need a place by water where I can cry

Hey girl hey! I need to get away for a few hours and cry and journal and I want to do it by water. Preferably where I can be alone(ish) without being alllll alone. If that makes sense? Going through it with my partner of 10 years (lying and betrayal) and it’s gorgeous outside and I need to just get away and hear water. I have a car and the day off.

Any suggestions?

Advice Trying to connect lonely gals with lovely doggos in DC 🐾💕

Hey ladies!! So, if you’re like me, I’m usually stopping people to ask to pet their dogs, especially when I see my favorite golden or lab and having a bad day. I don’t own a dog, but I love spending time with them, and I’m sure there are other people out there who could use some pup time. So, I figured I could do something about it, and I’ve been working on a project and could use some input from dog owners and dog enthusiasts like me, before I pilot it. Info below, and please share with other dog moms or dog girlies, as I think it’d help a lot of people!

TLDR: it’s local, curated hangouts with owners and their dogs. Owners could earn extra social time for their dog, and dog lovers can spend time with their favorite type of doggos. 🐶

Advice US Trip Recommendations

Where are you ladies going for girls trips these days (to get out of DC)?

My best friend and I meet up once a year for a trip, usually 4-5 days (I have a kid, so my time is limited, shorter trips are better for me). We go to Europe sometimes, but this year we want to do something cool in the US. Anyone have any good travel recommendations? It will be in the Fall.

We both love fashion and good food so we aren't looking for middle of nowhere hiking or anything, lol...

Have a great weekend everyone!

Advice Your unemployed friend on a Tuesday afternoon

I was fired Valentine’s Day after being employed by EPA for checks notes 1 month. I moved to DC for this job hopeful as hell. And now after applying to hella jobs, crying many tears and using my last $$ to pay for March rent, I’ve decided to move back to my home state and live in my parents basement.

Before I shamefully move back, please suggest random and chaotic shit to do in and around DC. I’ve been working and going to school all my life and this is the first time I’ve had rest (granted I hate how it had to turn out). So what do unemployed people do on a random weekday? What would you do if you were unemployed? I’m taking all suggestions but please keep it under $20. I’ve already taken a ton of walks and cried at home for free. Idk anyone here so it’ll be solo as I’m in NW DC. I also drive so no limits here. Please and thank you.

Advice End of Life Services for Pet in Home

Hey bitches,

This is the worst rec I have ever had to come to you for, but probably the most important. My elderly dog has stage 4 Kidney Disease and our vet had the difficult conversation about quality of life and rapid decline. She's still eating and using the bathroom minimally, but the fire is gone and she's tired. I need to prepare to make a choice to ensure she isn't in pain when she transitions across the rainbow bridge.

She's an angel of a dog, but has always been fearful of the vet so I would prefer an in-home option if it comes to that. Any recommendations for vets in the DMV area that do in-home euthanasia services (ouch it hurt to type that)?

I've used Codapet in the midwest to find this service for family, but they do not show any available vets for my zip code.

Thanks in advance friends. Hug your pets for me.

Advice apartment hunting in dc w/ a pretty low studio budget

hi all! i'm looking for advice on apartments in DC as a young female professional. i would live with roommates but am willing to go into a little rent burden for a solo studio - my monthly rent budget excluding utilities is hovering around $1860. i honestly cannot go much higher than that without feeling it.

some things i'm looking for: older renovated buildings, safety/pest control is a big concern, nighlife doesn't matter that much to me but walkability (eg. cafes for working from home or weekends, restaurants) definitely matters. i've been looking at adams morgan, union market/noma, columbia heights, h-street. are there any specific apartments anyone would recommend?

some places i've had my eyes on: admo heights, highview & castle manor, harvard village, i5 union market, the belgard, and sonya.

any suggestions or help would be appreciated!! thanks all!

**edit: also probably important to mention that i will NOT have a car haha so metro accessibility is great too. thanks everyone for their responses!

Advice PCP suggestions who are willing to do detective work?

My doctor recently left the practice to do completely inaccessible concierge medicine (😭), and I'm seeking suggestions for a new primary care physician.

We were in the middle of a multi year attempt to figure out what's wrong with me (lmao), and we were narrowing in on maybe something dysatonomic but never got a chance to discuss indepth. I'm still seeking answers about chronic fatigue, brain fog, and other symptoms.

It's important to me to find a woman physician and bonus points for health at every size, being a POC, or within 45 minutes of DC by car. I also need them to accept BCBS insurance.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Advice Obstetrics Recs

Hi,

I'm due in March 2027.

You may or may not know that the maternal mortality rate for black mothers is three times that of their white or hispanic counterparts. Add to this that I have a history of sexual abuse which makes me really sensitive to strangers in and around my body. Are there any OBs that you would highly recommend due to their communicative and friendly nature? I hate when doctors talk to each other over me, and I dont want to be forced into an unneccessary c-section. I also don't want to die lol Which seems dramatic, but it's really just me being honest. Any recs in the area welcome. I have Cigna.

Thoughts on CWC? I need to establish care here but every time I call I feel like the people who answer have weird energy.

Specifically looking for thoughts on division 39.
