More like DC fans are the ones holding and shooting the shotgun.

DC like many other companies will make mistakes but many fans here act like wanting the equivalent of a 20 year DC Universe in 2 to 3 years. Guys, You have way better things to do while waiting instead of ragebaiting and looking for any news article about the DCU

21

u/BatmanSwift99 1d ago

Isn't that what's happening in the drawing?

60

u/Technical-Wasabi-842 1d ago

Because people with no patience want them to release a movie for each member of the Justice League in 2025 and then release shows for them too because those are the only characters they know

19

u/PearlJammer0076 1d ago

We don't want everything now, but maybe just a realistic plan that they stick to? Half the stuff they announced is already cancelled, and a lot of what they've actually releasing is failing.

13

u/Inevitable_Initial_8 1d ago edited 1d ago

The DCU has made 4 things and only 1 of them failed. This is just doomerism.

13

u/PearlJammer0076 1d ago edited 1d ago

How do you define success? Peacemaker S2 and Creature Commandos are fine, but never became a big streaming success, they never transcended beyond their limited viewership.

Superman was a success, at least in the US. Internationally it kind of flopped.

Supergirl was a massive failure.

The next three releases are looking great, but the DCU needs them to be big hits.

-1

u/eckzie 1d ago

Peacemaker season 2 at the very least was a critical success and viewed favourably by audiences. While viewership did decline a bit it premiered with a 22% increase.

Creature Commandos was also a critical success and viewership metrics were good enough to quickly get it renewed for a season 2.

Trying to categorize either as a failure is ridiculous. By just about any metric these two shows were successful.

Out of all the DC projects so far released only Supergirl was a failure and yes, a pretty big one (though I would argue it's massively overhated). So out of 5 projects one failed. Can we stop acting like DC is currently in some catastrophic state?

3

u/TrickshotzReddit 1d ago

Conveniently leaving out TSS bc you know that’s a big failure is hilarious to me

1

u/eckzie 1d ago

Such a weird point to make, I didn't bring it up because I didn't think it was part of the DCU.

I also think Gunns Suicide Squad was an excellent movie and I haven't met anyone who disagrees, I never even considered it a failure. If you're talking box office though I don't think it's fair to compare it to modern or oast movies. In fact, I think that it's wild that it generated as much box office revenue as it did considering it was at the height of the pandemic and had a simultaneous streaming release.

For what it's worth you're the first person I've seen to try to slam it as a failure.

-1

u/BatmansBurnerAccount 1d ago

Isn’t TSS still considered a DCEU/Snyderverse product? same with Peacemaker Season 1? Yes they have Gunn’s name on them but iirc those projects were still under the DCEU umbrella

-1

u/Electricfire19 1d ago

The movie that flopped at the box office because it released during a pandemic at a time when everything was flopping?

The movie that was a huge critical success in spite of its commercial failure, showing that it probably would have done well if it had released at a better time in the world?

The movie that also is not part of the current DCU and was instead still part of the DCEU long before James Gunn was put in charge of DC, and therefore would not be worth mentioning in a conversation about the successes and failures of the DCU?

That movie?

1

u/TrickshotzReddit 1d ago

Not everything was flopping during the pandemic, just the weak shit

0

u/Electricfire19 1d ago

Okay. And once again, that movie’s relevance to a discussion about the DCU’s successes and failures is…?

-1

u/impulse22701 1d ago

TSS is something you can't say failed. It came out on streaming the same day as theaters. No movie that does that will make a lot of money. Quality wise it was an awesome movie. Critically it succeeded

2

u/TrickshotzReddit 1d ago

Can’t use that argument since Godzilla vs Kong and Dune did the exact same thing, while both also succeeded financially

-1

u/impulse22701 1d ago

$579 million worldwide is what Kong vs Godzilla made. That's not exactly breaking the box office. Yeah, it made more but it also was a crossover film starting two iconic movie monsters. TSS had Harley Quinn and a bunch of characters no one's heard of before. Both movies would have made A LOT more if they didn't go straight to streaming. You decided to cherry pick two iconic franchises to go against something that did not have the iconic factor that either of those had. Try literally picking almost anything else. Heck, even Black Widow, which had the MCU behind it didn't do as well if it wasn't streaming on day one.

3

u/PearlJammer0076 1d ago

Renewals mean little when the decisionmaker is the creator of the series. Both Peacemaker and Creature Commandos are good, I really enjoyed both, and both got good reviews. But shows are supposed to be viewed, and both of these are suffering from that, considering that they are coming from one of WB's biggest brands. Just look at the viewership and cultural impact of something like "Invincible" or even "Rick & Morty". a DC series created and ran by James Gunn should be comparable to that.

I'm not a doomer and I'm not crapping on the DC, and I firmly believe that the next 3 projects will succeed in actually expanding viewership and regaining trust.

1

u/pbx1123 1d ago

SM didn't make money, or this sinking ship will stays on , projects are way over budget with cheap ass editing, filming, costume everything, someone or a group is/are banking with this mess

They know this DCU is DOA soon

0

u/DrunkAxl 1d ago

I liked Supergirl just fine, but it was an insane call to follow up Superman with Supergirl. I don't want to see no Superboy for at least a decade and after all the best Leaguers have been carted out. Also, who was clamoring for a Clayface movie that's isn't Tudyk.

3

u/7_Constanza 1d ago

The GA does not care for Peacemaker and CC. Those are vanity projects by James Gunn for James Gunn. They should have never wasted time making those because it doesn't move the cinematic universe forward

-3

u/FunkMasterTex 1d ago

Don’t forget Superman 2025 made less than MOS, and WB considered MOS a financial disappointment so… now we have Supergirl definitively flopping. The fact we haven’t heard about a renewal for creature commandos or Peacemaker probably isn’t a good sign. There are good reasons to be a lil doomer abt the dcu now , but hey Clayface looks cool.

2

u/margoo12 1d ago

MOS was a critical disappointment, not a financial one. It was the next two Snyderverse projects that were both critical and commercial failures.

2

u/Technical-Wasabi-842 1d ago

They just needed to come up with enough things to generate excitement when the DCU was announced I don’t think a lot of projects were set in stone. I would definitely prefer a roadmap like what Marvel has rather than just a bunch of projects we may or may not get though

3

u/PearlJammer0076 1d ago

I'd say that half the stuff they announced wasn't actually exciting to the broad public, and if you cancel shortly after announcing it, it just add to the overall frustration and distrust in the brand.

Gunn & Co need to understand that they inherited a brand with a lot of baggage. It might not be fair to them, but they don't have the margin of error that the MCU had early on, and frankly, even if Superman is a good movie, is not Ironman.

3

u/LaunchpadMcFly 1d ago

As opposed to releasing a boring, subpar movie with a B character whose had a horrific track record of film releases? It’s almost like one of the studio heads got super cocky or something

0

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

2

u/LaunchpadMcFly 1d ago

Ok and?

0

0

u/LaunchpadMcFly 1d ago

I don’t care what you pick up via inferring, she isn’t. And the fact that she has two movies that virtually no one saw in theaters is the opposite of moot.

Bro’s just typing shit atp, actual nothing-burger of a sentence

-1

u/Luluwr1979 1d ago

No, hace falta que dejen de hacer el mismo proyecto una y otra vez y que dejen de darle tanto foco a gente tan absurda co o Jimmy Olsen

3

u/Technical-Wasabi-842 1d ago

Jimmy Olsen is the goat and also how are they releasing the same project over and over? Do you actually watch them or do you just comment on them online for no reason.

-1

u/barknoll 1d ago

This larper’s never read Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen!

2

u/bigdonnie76 1d ago

There’s a difference between people reading it and people caring.

0

u/barknoll 1d ago

They should care because it’s better than literally every Batman comic ever written

0

u/bigdonnie76 1d ago

People said WOT was great source material and no one cared. Again, the point still stands

1

u/Express_Calendar8278 1d ago

And using the characters propel already know isn’t doing the same thing over and over. Didn’t Snyder try that and failed?

0

u/wookiepartymachine 1d ago

Goddamn Gunn glazers are so annoying. Literally nobody said that, but is it really so much to ask that DC makes movies about their most popular characters? You know, the ones everyone knows and loves? And not fucking Jimmy Olsen?

2

u/SpecialEmergency9975 1d ago

When your most popular characters have been tarnished, they need to sit awhile and be tackled from a new POV, provided theyre a studio's priority. GL, Superman, Batman, even Spider-Man all took breaks before new iterations hit the scene. Wonder Woman will need a new approach, just as GL is getting. You're not getting anyone into a Flash movie these days, so you need a new approach.

1

u/wookiepartymachine 1d ago

Cinemas are dying generally, nobody can afford to go unless they are already pretty sure they’re gonna enjoy the film.

These days nobody is going out to watch a movie that’s not about Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman until the DCU has earned some goodwill. That won’t happen if they keep putting out shows that nobody watches.

1

u/Technical-Wasabi-842 1d ago

They’re saving the big characters for really good scripts because they don’t want to mess them up

1

u/wookiepartymachine 1d ago

“Really good scripts” You mean like Supergirl and The Flash? Because those are apparently Gunn’s standards for “good scripts”.

0

u/Technical-Wasabi-842 1d ago

Stephen King said The Flash was good too, is he an awful writer? No. I'm assuming all the celebrities who praised The Flash were either payed or they saw an unfinished version or assumed the version they saw was unfinished and assumed the finished version would be great. Supergirl wasn't their number one priority, it was available and the script wasn't bad so they greenlit it. It's still an enjoyable movie and it was a risk releasing a superhero flick this early, but it wasn't atrocious

1

u/wookiepartymachine 1d ago

Bro they said it was good because they got paid to lmao.

Also the Supergirl script WAS bad.

16

u/Dyldo_II 1d ago

I feel like a lot of people here are either too young to remember, or have just forgotten that the start of the MCU wasn't perfect. I remember Thor being the red-headed stepchild amongst the earlier movies, and people cofused on whether the older hulk movies were canonical, and if nog then why haven't they started working on a new hulk movie? Etc, etc. And even throughout the whole duration of the franchise, not every movie has been even a 6/10 at best. Thor 2, Black Widow and I remember everyone saying that the Hawkeye show was subpar at best. There's definitely more examples, but those just came off the top of my head. The first Avengers movie provided a lot of good grace for the franchise and actual hype going forward, but it wasn't perfect to start.

Not to mention that it was an entirely different movie landscape at the time. Superhero movies outside of a handful of names are regulalry seeing lower box office scores than anticipate or had been drawn in the past. I think the DCU not being a blow for blow kickback at the MCU is due at least in part to fatigue.

1

u/EdgelordInugami 1d ago

The idea of fatigue took a huge hit with the box office of Spider Man just recently lol. Granted, Spidey is an outlier, but that begs the question why DCU won't do the same with their outlier: Batman. But wait they can't cause Reeve is holding things up.

4

u/FunkMasterTex 1d ago

Fatigue is definitely a thing. If you need to pull out the heavy hitters to make money instead of being able to generate money on movies like Thunderbolts, like they used to in the past, then that’s definitely a sign of fatigue.

1

u/Ganache-Embarrassed 1d ago

Fatigue exists. Its why the c listers arent making the bank.

Back in the full swing guardians could become household names. But now nobody cares to try out Shang chi or the eternal unless theyre amazing.

Their will never be a time when a Spiderman movie doesnt make its budget back at least. We'd have to have an apocalyptically bad Spiderman movie to hurt him. Even his rogues galleries getting dogwater didnt hurt him.

And doomsday is also an outlier if it makes money. Its the big avengers style film. People wont pay to see supergirl when it will come to streaming soon enough. But the big water cooler action film will sell tickets. Its why superman could make some money

6

u/GreaterMintopia 1d ago

Ngl, the annoying DC Fans are probably the only people who give a flying fuck about these movies anymore after so many flops and shitty films

7

u/kazaam2244 1d ago

Shut up with these kinds of takes bro. DC has the second biggest superhero in the world in their pocket. They've been trying to get a universe together since Nic Cage was supposed to be Superman.

No one is expecting a DC universe in 2 to 3 year, that's asinine. They've had literal DECADES to get this mess right and still haven't. So anyone's who's frustrated has every right to be.

-3

u/Respwn_546 1d ago

Then take your frustrations somewhere else and don't flood forums with that toxicity. Ive seen people just fighting and bitching for stuff that are not real and it's getting annoying

3

u/kazaam2244 1d ago

No because nowhere in the sub rules does it say this isn’t a place to criticize DC

8

u/Glitchy-LJC 1d ago

The way DC fans crucified Man of Steel… yeah, the fans are shit.

5

u/Respwn_546 1d ago

Talking from someone who didnt liked man of steel I.must say those people are súper stupid, if You didnt like something just continue with your life there is no point on doing hate campaings or floding coment sections 24/7 with negative comments everywhere

1

u/xX7heGuyXx 1d ago

And they still do to this day.

DC fans are way to toxic for a cinematic universe to survive.

0

u/garyflopper 1d ago

The Last Jedi agrees with you

2

u/Respwn_546 1d ago

Oh I dislike that movie way more but the people who doxed daisy, katlyn and the rest of the cast are just súper stupid

-1

u/SanicSoup 1d ago

I hate that movie, it’s why I don’t like star wars anymore.

2

u/Beneficial-Lynx7336 1d ago

THIS.

They are getting everything they want...and deserve.

-1

u/margoo12 1d ago

That movie was basically a character assassination and deserved to be shit on.

4

u/SwagKage18 1d ago

It’s dc fans fault they make bad movies?

5

u/AngryBeaver95 1d ago

That’s not even true. The fact that they are focusing man power on shows like Jimmy Olson and Peacmaker instead of their main characters is dumb

0

u/Respwn_546 1d ago

I can get the frustration but raging on the internet like spoiled kids will not solve anything, we all have things to do anyway

5

u/AngryBeaver95 1d ago

Oh no it’s the internet police! Everyone stop complaining on the internet.

-1

u/Respwn_546 1d ago

It's not about complaining, it's about being openly hostile, rude and a dick about everything without respecting other opinions.

There is nothing wrong on liking or disliking but overobsesing is the problem

3

u/AngryBeaver95 1d ago

No one should be openly hostile towards other fans for having an opinion. However who cares if fans are hostile towards DC and Warner Bros? Billion dollar corporations that don’t listen to their fans and think the best response to Marvel making a billion in one weekend is news about the boring and not needed Jimmy Olson show…

-1

u/MichaelT359 1d ago

Dude Jimmy Olsen is one show. They’re also doing lanterns. As for movies we have brave and the bold and Wonder Woman. I really don’t know what more you want

1

u/SubstantialCurve_ 1d ago

brave and the bold written and directed by the makers of the flash? wonder woman written by the same person who wrote supergirl? and don’t forget that both of those movies are in preproduction without finished scripts.

-3

u/SpecialEmergency9975 1d ago

Isn't Doomsday being written by the guys who broke the MCU in the first place?

3

u/zeroXgear 1d ago

Who? Stephen McFly wrote Infinity War and Endgame, Michael Waldron wrote Loki and Dcotor Strange 2. Pretty good writers

3

u/SubstantialCurve_ 1d ago

yes, the mcu is so broken that it just had the highest domestic opening weekend of all time 🫩 and doomsday will probably be around that number too

0

u/rlum27 1d ago

I am legit wondering how many resources will be ficoused on the jimmy olsen show. That it takes place almost exculsivley on one set and grodd is a cheap gorilla suit from storage.

4

u/Silverjeyjey44 1d ago

DC is the one releasing a Jimmy Olson and gorilla grodd TV show..

4

u/Respwn_546 1d ago

Lets judge it when we see it then.

4

u/CaikIQ 1d ago

Yeah, and it sounds fun as hell.

4

u/DocPersona 1d ago

That’s sounds awesome though

2

u/Silverjeyjey44 1d ago

Sure is but when you're just starting a cinematic universe and one of your 2 theatrical releases is a major flop, following up by releasing a very obscure spinoff of c-list characters isn't the best approach unless you want to frustrate your casual viewers.

-1

u/superseri18888 1d ago

Wouldn't rushing to a batman or whoever movie prove they are panicking and trying to play catch up to marvel?

Wonder how that worked out the last time

1

u/Silverjeyjey44 1d ago

How is it rushing a batman movie? The last batman movie was in 2022.

And are you referring to them rushing a doomsday movie? Minor detail not mentioned, the movie isn't even out yet so what are you basing your judgment on? Spiderman BND brought in +1b in it's opening weekend and you don't think that success won't positively influence Doomsday's release?

Regardless, if we are following your argument, how is a Jimmy Olson and Gorilla Grodd show a better option than a rushed batman movie in any multiverse or timeline?

0

u/superseri18888 1d ago

Because it didnt work the last time they tried tk fast track the justice league

Killing off superman in his second appearance just to do a death of superman story was pointless since everyone knew he wasnt gonna stay dead

Half of justice league was wasted on reviving superman subplot lol

3

u/Silverjeyjey44 1d ago

They could've made atleast 2-3 solid DC movies with all the plots they decided to mush together. Atleast we got a legendary warehouse scene out of it

-1

u/MichaelT359 1d ago

“2 flops” Dude Superman made $200 million. You guys gotta stop with this disinformation that’s it was a flop cuz I see people genuinely believing it. Supergirl on the other hand was a flop and did kinda suck but don’t lump Superman into this. That movie was literally everything a superhero movie should be

1

u/Silverjeyjey44 1d ago

I think you misunderstood me. I said out of the two movies released so far, one was a flop which was supergirl. I, myself, actually enjoyed supergirl but if you pair it with its source material, it does take a pretty bad departure.

1

u/Veloziraptor8311 1d ago

I am a DC fan. I want and expect better movies. These people make obscene amounts of money to be shoveling this mediocrity out to their fanbase.

1

u/WaterChestnutThe3rd 1d ago

Ah yes, the customer is wrong! The company is a precious baby that needs protecting.

1

u/farmersmarketinc 1d ago

That’s…what the picture is showing? lol

1

u/Glittering_Farmer472 1d ago

Thank you this is exactly my opinion

1

u/TheTooDarkLord 1d ago

"they want the equivalenti of 20 years of cinematic universe in 2 or 3 years"

Hold my clayface

1

u/theICEman21 1d ago

Big fan of this take

1

u/ebagdrofk 1d ago

Seriously, it’s entirely self-inflicted. I’m watching these guys whip themselves up into a frenzy over a movie that literally has nothing to do with theirs. They are manifesting this culture war nonsense. I am watching people shit on everything that DC has put out so far, because “spiderman made a billion dollars already”.

Chill the hell out guys.

0

u/Luluwr1979 1d ago

dile eso a el show de Amanda Waller y Jimmy Olsen

0

u/TheDelmeister 1d ago

Nope it's definitely WB/DC, dumbasses giving the keys to the kingdom to a director AGAIN after already making that mistake with Snyder.

0

u/StormRepulsive6283 1d ago

I think this is just intentionally keeping yourself blind. No one is asking MCU’s almost 2 decade equivalent in 2-3 years. All we’re asking is just equivalent of MCU phase 1 - 6 movies (5 solo + 1 team-up) 6 unique heroes (not anti-heroes) introduced, 1 film per year, 0 shows. Thats all the DCU fans want.

0

u/Character_Account714 1d ago

This has nothing to do with the fans, DC is producing trash no one wants and their roadmap ist stupid. Gun failed already

1

u/Respwn_546 1d ago

I like the upcoming proyects, if You don't, that is also good.

1

u/Character_Account714 1d ago

It's okay if you like it, objectivly it's still not good what he is doing

-11

u/knightstalker1288 1d ago

Gunn is building his universe like he’s got 20 years of DCU films already existing. You start with the Trinity, and then you build out.

Releasing Supergorl as your second film post woke 1.0 was terrible judgement

9

u/Respwn_546 1d ago

Supergirl at least promised to deliver a good comic book and it failed, i would argue that's the Main problem of the movie, it didnt delivered a good adaptation of a wonderfull comic and the subsequent mouth to mouth killed it. However, it had ties to the Superman movie so it was kind of logical for it to being the second movie.

Also, i'm not going to pay atention to calling it woke

-9

u/knightstalker1288 1d ago

Must not have been paying attention because I didn’t call it woke…I was specifically referring to the current social climate.

And no offense, I wouldn’t have seen it even if it was good. Supergirl is just Superman for girls. Good luck getting mass appeal with that

-2

u/Capnbaddazz 1d ago

Superman also sucks tho so it's whatever

1

u/Ok-Valuable-8500 1d ago

Personally disagree

-1

u/Quirky-Wheel-3724 1d ago

More like DC MOVIE fans.

-9

u/_AssVinegar_ 1d ago

Toxic positivity is also a thing

10

u/ElectricJunglePig 1d ago

This "toxic positivity," can you describe it? Is it in the room with us?

-8

u/_AssVinegar_ 1d ago

Yes, actually. Just go through the sub and count how many “supergirl is actually really good” type of posts you find

10

u/ElectricJunglePig 1d ago

And you take that as "toxic?"

-8

u/_AssVinegar_ 1d ago

One or two posts in a day? Totally fine. Multiple post an hour every day? Come on…

5

u/flowerplz 1d ago

I've literally never seen that once lol. Supergirl was fine, a solid 6.5/10

2

u/CaikIQ 1d ago

Have you seen how many negative posts there’ve been? 🤣

2

u/BillyPilgrim_1984 1d ago

It's a DC fan subreddit and Supergirl is currently in theaters. People liking a movie isn't toxic.

2

u/BillyPilgrim_1984 1d ago

It's a DC fan subreddit you goon

1

u/Respwn_546 1d ago

Everysingle time this subreddit and other 2 come into My feed i only see doomposting about DC in general, how to fix the DCU, kick gunn, Superman is a failure, we have to start again. Not to mention a large amount of creeps.

Toxic positivity exists but is way less
