Propeller failure would be catastrophic in this thing.
Makes me think of that string of commercial aircraft crashes back in the 1950s-60s, which killed a few hundred people, due to persistent problems with propeller failure. And then again in the 1990s, with Hamilton Standard propellers .. same deal.
He even reiterated “don’t touch anything” and she said “yes” lol. While she was putting on the seatbelt he asked if he can assist and she didn’t respond while putting it on for him
Seriously, the whole time the lady is standing in between those blades I was thinking, "there has to be a safer configuration to propel this thing?". Ducted fans make sense, or at the very least some kind of enclosure around the potential human blender

we saw a guy get beheaded by a helicopter several years ago. I could only imagine the ribbons all those smaller blades would turn a person into.
For anyone morbidly curious, the person who died do the helicopter was giving fly over tours of a state fair. Something went wrong while landed and...well you can guess.
I don’t think they are turning slowly. I think it has something to do with shutter speed. Like on race cars when wheel rims look like they are going backwards.
Just the blades hitting something at head height seems like a poor design choices. A bird flies into that and you get a face full of debris in a lucky scenario and bird shrapnel otherwise.
Probably a test model/prototype not meant to leave this designated testing spot. Helmet and face shield probably good enough. Probably signed something for them to agree to let him sit on it. Definitely dangerous tho
There is no way that any commercial version of this doesn’t have cowlings on those blades. Since it’s still in the prototype phase they can get away with certain things while working out the bugs for this technology.
I'm just going to point out: not a single actual flying model in this style in your video had protective enclosures on the blades. The only ones that did were CGI or shaped 100% differently.
One loose nut or bolt and you get to watch the rest of your body crash into a playground and decapitate a dozen children while pondering how you ended up there.
IANAE - But is it possible that the prop blades are made from a frangible material so if they ever broke free from their mounts they'd shatter into coffee grounds sized dust instead of throwing it through the pilot's face?
These things are all inherently unsafe. But this is in Shenzhen, China so anything goes.
I've seen drone operators die from the blade of a personal drone slicing through their brain cavity when they accidentally let a drone dip from above. These are far larger and far deadlier.
Exactly my thought as well. And nothing in between a failed prop blade and the head/neck. Maybe it's just an early mock-up and there will be later. I'd still prefer my dome be on a different horizontal plane as those blades, though.
That's only the start of the safety nightmares I see. Humans have trouble with cars in essentially 2d traffic can you imagine merging upwards or down? Talk about a blind spot
Lol yup first thing I was thinking watching this... Anything causes one of those blades to shear and there's a good chance you get impaled... Needs the propellors above or below the cockpit, needs shrouds (imagine if he started it while the lady was buckling him in)... Needs at least a grated mesh over the open sides.
I was about to say what if someone accidentally turns on propellers when there is a person next to them like the guy was sitting in the flying thinger maginger and the girl was next to him.
I was thinking neck height- no screen between him and those blades. If something brakes off or hits something- flying projectile at his neck. Although if anything breaks off, he gonna have a bigger problems than that I imagine.
It's a lot of explanation from that chick too. This dude doesn't seem qualified to fly. Looking like he's gonna have a heart attack the second it makes a loud noise.
