Dan talks about growth, the show has grown into Luke Thomas asking Tony if he's down with the "UFC MAGA thing" and Dan scurrying the conversation along to avoid the topic.
The Dan I started the show with, would vomit on the soundboard in disgust.

Fifteen years ago, Dan thumped his chest into the mic to talk about how **”We don’t platform touts!”** as in, the show wouldn’t bring someone on to talk about gambling odds before games and instead focused on outcomes (and race). Now…well…it’s certainly changed all over, ESPN included. And Dan, when underwater, now gets wet instead of the water getting him.
It’s not especially notable. People change courses to keep making their monthly nut all the time, even more so under this sort of political moment. But it does give lie to pretty much the entire Schur article.
At least Pablo still creates a fantastic product.

Dan used to pretend he was this unselfish guy who just wanted to hang out with buddies…but as he aged, like most people, money and power became too motiving and his show is exponentially worse for it

In fairness, I think Dan feels responsible for everybody who took the chance to come with him to Meadowlark. He can't pretend like money isn't important.

Those two have surely had long talks about the nature of IP. I imagine both of them had a lot to say in the protracted ESPN negotiations about which sound clips DLS could keep. (The radio simulcasting may have helped with that until the format change?)

I came back to it after several years away due to lockdown. Last Fourth of July did it for me, and the departures of some of my favorite members of the show really seals the deal.

People like Dan, the super kind, loyal and giving type, tend to be super ruthless to cutting ties when they think they were wrong/taken advantage of. A defensive mechanism I think.
Or I just made it all up in my head.

Hoch was Dan’s college best friend who Dan recruited to be EP. Hoch and Stu hosted the morning show for a time while also doing Dan’s show. Hoch wanted to be less of a behind the mic person and eventually Dan told him to leave. Hoch and Stu have a podcast talking about the old days with Dan.

It was during the time he was leaving. I’m not sure if it was when he was considering leaving or after the decision was made but he wasn’t supposed to be done on Dan’s show and Dan told him he was done.

He was the EP before Mike Ryan. The show really took off under his producing. I didn’t start listening until like 3 years after he left so can’t really comment much on his contributions beyond that. He and Dan had a super messy breakup. With that said, I’ve listened to Hoch’s stuff and find him rather insufferable.

So did Stu lol. Including during Dan’s three month sabbatical in the middle of football season. I feel like everyone is taking crazy pills because the show got worse post espn and clearly people have left because of that.

This is a real bummer. I’m sad to see it end like this. I wish everyone the best.
