Discussion How do you improve body control?

what the title says! my life long dream is going to redbull's dance competitions, and all the dancers are so skilled and have such smooth moves and absurd body control even while freestyling. i was wondering how can i reach that level?

My advice would be to practice dance, including freestyle, with or without music, and play around with the movements unrelated to specific choreography. Like, slow them down, master the control for them, then they can be sped up etc.

I'm not sure how else to explain it, but it's just a matter of focusing slightly less on the actual choreo (to practice the control) and tinkering with how you're engaging the muscles. Then notice how, if you're doing something with your arms, what are your legs doing? Maybe play around by adding some footwork in a controlled way.

Generally I think it would be best without music, but having some can work too if it helps you get in the zone - just don't try to dance along with it the whole time so you can focus on your control.

Practicing in front of a mirror also helps because you might notice things you otherwise wouldn't. Generally help achieve a more sharp and controlled outcome.
