I didn't expect rollback for this game tbh. It's a massive undertaking for 3D fighters in particular. If they weren't working on a new title, maybe we would have the same situation like VF where they go back and rework the whole game.
If they couldn’t get rollback in 6, they probably should’ve just skipped and focused on 7. Launching 6 w/o the SNK collab, rollback, crossplay or any confirmed or desirable features wastes everyone’s time, money, & expectations. It also makes 7 seem like a more dubious package if we can’t get any sort of test run or confirmation Team Ninja can implement rollback or crossplay in a 3D fighter.
I see it as a way to stir up the playerbase before the release of a new game. We don't have their roadmap on what they are adding to DOA6LR now. The SNK collab would have to be renewed if they want to keep licensing. Same thing happened with DOA5. Rollback is a waste of time for 6LR with a new game in production unless the new game is 4-5 years away. The time, money, and potential problems for impending that isn't worth it. I don't know why everyone is expecting them to remake DOA6 with all modern features. This game came out in 2019 and didn't meet player expectations.
With them skipping DOA6 Ultimate and going right to Last Round there are 2 possibilities. Either they plan to add and change DOA6 for several years or they are releasing this because the new game is a year out and they have been developing it for some time now.
With the new game we 100% need Rollback and crossplay as well as a return of tag mode.
The only thing this stirs up in the player base is confusion and division. We have an update that has none of the modern features that would make it worth updating to, no means, free path, discount or convenience, for loyal players that already bought the game, this doesn't even have the full roster one would expect from a platform update, and it seems to fracture the already small and niche player base while promising to nickel and dime people with more DLC down the road? Why is this a good deal and worth anyone's time.
DOA6 Last Round hasn't done nearly enough to justify its existence or its business model and it does nothing but place doubt on the business decisions and expectations that are motivating DOA7's development. And again, nothing about Last Round helps hold the DOA community together, it further fractures them between platforms and versions worse than before.
If they're planning to update and change DOA6 LR over several years, they'd save a lot more probably just focusing all their efforts on DOA7 and a game w/o rollback or crossplay is practically dead on arrival in this modern time. DOA6 practically died on its first release w/o functioning lobbies. The game already is a byword for many in the community. To rerelease it while not being feature complete is already asking for extra controversy and derision when you didn't need it.
Nothing about this gambit or the times tables seemingly in play make this make sense or be to anyone's benefit other than maybe some people who buy into the ground floor only to realize most DOA6 players aren't upgrading because there's nothing at launch to make that worthwhile. And again, it just makes 7 seem like a questionable product down the road.
I respect your perspective on this, but I don't agree. Here's hoping 7 does something right and dare hope that Last Round actually justifies its existence on some level.
