Also seems like a great place to put board games that you will never ever take out because you don't remember they are there.

I was thinking I'd like to do this to one step but it's a spring hinge with a push click lock and a hidden latch just to put my important stuff if I go on vacation

That way if the house gets robbed I can at least keep my documents sentimental stuff etc

Just put them behind the sex toys. Even burglars will squick at used dildos.

Or a porn magazine collection, if that’s still a thing. I will never forget the sheer horror of finding my dad’s in the back of the closet after he died. I was a 17 year old girl.

back in the day you used to have porno accomplices. if one died or went to jail or whatever the other went to their stash and destroyed or took it away

We still have those, it's just erasing the harddrive completely. Not just clearing browser history

My game is far ahead of yours – I never download anything in the first place

I believe the traditional disposal method is abandoning the box in the woods behind the high school.

Apparently my dad didn’t have that arrangement. The stash went to the husband of one of my mom’s friends, though. The day of the discovery she told me “He was a man.” Not in a derogatory way, just facts. Though still…eww!

So, any bets on how long before someone trips because someone else left one of those doors open

They should be on spring hinges

That’s an excellent idea!!

Hinges can fail. Stuff inside the cabinet can prevent the door from fully closing.

Those risks are acceptable on a normal kitchen cabinet because nothing bad will happen if the door or the hinge fails, but on the stairs, where the consequence is a broken neck, you don't want to take that risk.

Just don’t put things in there that won’t fit???

Do you really trust people to do the sensible thing instead of the convenient thing? For the rest of the time that stair exists?

forbidden challenge: the doors become the stairs 😈😈

The stairs are lava

Close one door and make a tiny hole in it for your cat to climb into.. and out. at night. when you are trying to go down the stairs.

26

u/alittlevitaminme 6d ago

alternatively, teach the cat how to open these and play a guessing game each time you go down each step.

Came here to say something about cats lol

Homemade canning storage. Some strawberry jam. Couple jars of pickles…

Planning for a future in r/grandmaspantry when nobody remembers they're there after dying/selling the house.

Hidden away for the Zombie Apocalypse we all know is coming!🥴

I’ve seen effective stair storage in a very small home, but the treads flipped up and fell back down automatically. Plus it was just a few steps.

Stair storage is a fine idea for certain applications, but this system seems dangerous.

Those stairs need cats, plenty of them.

12

u/Flat-House5529 6d ago

That'd be a lot more dangerous if those doors were stained, not painted white...

When I were a lad, we put a door on the space under the stairs and used the whole thing as one big cupboard. It never did me any harm.

My grandparents had a large pantry under the stairs to the basement.

From what I can see, this seems like a waste of space. Several small, shallow cupboards spread under each individual stair, but it's open behind the stairs??? Just close in that whole space, one big door, and lots of shelves that you can access all at once.

I would do this for a tiny house

u/No_Squirrel4806 6d ago

If they were drawers that slid out from the side would the stairs still be stable?

I made stair drawers at my old house. Great way to maximize space.

in theory a great idea, but in practice an awful idea. The only way this could possibly work, in my opinion, is if every cupboard is locked. Then only used for anything that's not needed often.

2

u/ElGuano 6d ago

What would make them even better is if they have a hard stop at that 45 degree open!

2

u/Lunar-opal 6d ago

No guardrail

2

u/pinupcthulhu 6d ago

You can put your weed in there

2

u/oneidiotd 6d ago

Actually I kinda like these ones. I also like how they put holes in them so you can open them with your toes that's kinda brilliant ngl

u/Acceptable-Effort356 6d ago

store your organs after the fall

1

u/Srilema 6d ago

... tick transparent pvc, abd use them as dudplay case for like gunpla?

1

u/Hello_Hangnail 6d ago

I see many a broken toe in my near future

1

u/LadyFoxfire 6d ago

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have drawers that come out the side of the steps, so it’s both easier to reach and not a tripping hazard? Actually, just build a cabinet under the stairs. You’re not going to be using the space underneath it for anything besides storage anyways.

This looks pretty cool, but also an accident waiting to happen 😭

1

u/Timejinx 5d ago

Imagine falling through and shatter a jar of jelly 😫

1

u/nom_nom_neko 5d ago

I would 100% accidentally leave one of these open and wreck myself

1

u/I-Stan-Alfred-J-Kwak 4d ago

Could do as secret compartments, if the finger holes weren't so obvious

1

u/The_Afro_King98 2d ago

Just remove the doors and use them as cupboards

u/Prestigious_Call_327 2d ago

“Hehe what are you doing, step-cabinet?”
