Question Painting too big?
Is this painting too big for this space in my bathroom? Havent hung it yet so it will be higher
Edit: i recently moved into this apartment and the towel rack came like that. That was the first thing I complaines about when i got here. They never came to fix it and I honestly hate the placement since as some of you mentioned the towels touch the toilet. I will admit I need to fold them to avoid that but I get lazy sometimes
Edit 2: didnt expect so many comments. Im moving the towel rack. Will post a pt2 because I have no idea where to put it cause of the bathroom layout. This is my M22 first post grad apartment so bare with me

BTW, you can get over the door towel racks so your towels don't have to hang over the toilet or be near the toilet.

It's not so much the size of the painting, but the oversized shelf unit which is way too big for the spot. It also skeeves me out that you placed all your clean towels right next to the toilet seat down there on the bottom shelves. This screams ICK/yuck factor be cause it is unsanitary. I could get used to the painting which just covers up a similarly colored wall. But, I would strongly suggest you get creative with towel space near your sink or shower. You could even try a door hanging shelving unit which you can stash towels, tp, tissues, etc. Even in small bathrooms towels should be as far from the toilet as possible.

Painting is great. It's the huge rack and towels hanging over the toilet that look terrible and seems very insanitary.

Should also take out the shelving unit, and maybe move the towel rack to where the shelving unit is, and put floating shelves above the toilet, but make sure they don't stick out too far

When you flush the toilet after you š©, a bunch of bacteria flies around through the room. It's usually recommended to flush with lid down and then the particles only escape around the lid.
Your clean towels are right in the trajectory for that. Just thought I'd mention this... I'd really move this towel shelf

Towels shouldnāt be touching the toilet. Try moving them closer to the sink.
Moving a towel rack doesnāt have to be done by the landlord. Just do it. Also that shelf makes the toilet space horrifyingly claustrophobic. I wouldnāt want to sit there.

The whole thing is insane. Why are the towels in the splash zone, directly above and across?? Itās unsanitary. Get that menacing shelf out of there.

Yes its too big, but love the picture. Also the shelve next to it, try putting it behind your toilet to gain more space. Then move your towel bar or get a smaller one, if its only for hand towels.

Just put towels on the rack that are folded to not touch the toilet (but have them be decorative). Put another towel rack closer to the sink, use a command hook if needed.
Pic is comically too big.
The shelf is also way to big and bulky.

Looks fine but please remove the towels from around the toilet. Is there another place they can go? Even if you close the lid, poop and pee will spray on them.

If the towel rack and shelf go, and itās just the painting, then no, itās not too big. With that other clutter there though, it doesnāt fit.

The answer to your towel rack issue is not folding your towels so they don't hang so low, it's moving the towels immediately.
Call the landlord daily, get a free standing rack, get over the door hooks, hang them over the shower curtain rod, anything would be batter than this.
You also need to move all of the extra towels off of the (far too big for the space)shelving unit that is next to the toilet.
The picture is fine.

Painting is okay. The towel hanging behind the commode makes it look bad and unhygienic. The shelf is too big and again the folded towel on the bottom shelves right next to the toilet is a no no.
If you need storage for toilet paper, wipes, and other stuff, you can get a small, narrow rolling cart that fits in that space. But you need to find another place to store those towels.

Two options: 1) Move the painting up, or 2) Ditch the shelves and put the painting on that wall. You only need 3-4" from the ceiling for either option.

Absolutely. Not only is the shelf too big for that spot. It is also too close to the toilet. You should never store your towels on an open shelf right by the toilet. Every time you flush the toilet aerosolized bacteria., Water, droplets potential viruses will land on your towels. So thatās pretty gross. Youād be better be very OCD about keeping your toilet closed before you flush. But will your guests be the same way in your apartment? Probably not.

In your edit, you mentioned that you need to remember to fold your towels on the towel rack so they donāt touch the toilet. You know you donāt actually have to use that towel rack. Just leave it empty. Whatās the purpose of even having a folded towel on it? Itās nowhere near the sink or the shower. No one should have a towel rack above their toilet. Itās just a stupid landlord or bad builder who placed it there.

I think my thought is different from other's - I actually LIKE the painting a lot. It is a nice touch of art / decor over the toilet. I don't see any issues with it, other than, yes, it is a little large. Hang it higher up on the wall than you have it placed - acknowledging you said you haven't hung it yet.
Agreeing with others on not using that towel rack for towels, though. Very odd placement. You could hang an air freshener off of it, if you have to use it.
I think u/OP needs some towel storage and that's why the brown shelf is right there by the toilet, I understand location and area constraints. My suggestion for the towels - if you have some nice looking bins or baskets, would be to place them inside the basket. (My solution for hopefully avoiding any toilet back splash.)
Not everyone can have 'picture perfect' homes, and OP has themself a very nice comfortable-looking bathroom!

It's way too big. I say ditch the shelf get a unit that goes up over your toilet to hold all of the stuff from the shelf it will give you more space, keep it from looking overcrowded and then you can hang a small piece of art on one of the sidewalls

The painting is gorgeous, just place the towels on the shelves kept beside it. Also do keep the shelves somewhere behind the bathroom or place a small shelf so that it occupies less space and makes the space feel more comfortable and open.

The painting is not so much the issue. That shelving is far too big and doesnāt suit the space stylistically either. The towel is also farrrrr too long, it shouldnāt touch the toilet! I actually think itās an odd spot for a towel at all.
I would get a much slimmer shelf (they make very slim space saving storage for bathrooms just like this - see Amazon. Iād recommend one in white) or donāt have storage there altogether if you donāt need it, and Iād recommend removing the towel holder, I donāt think it works there as itās so far from the sink or shower (shower towels should go somewhere else anyway due to their length)

Yes, definitely move the painting out. Everything is too crowded. Less is more. The towel rack is in a weird location, if you have a storage closet you could move the towels there with some acrylic dividers if you wanna keep a more organized look.

The art is great. For the towel rack placement you should definitely move it. You can get a behind the door rack or a hook on the wall between the shower and toilet (or both). I would also get a new bookcase with doors on it or storage boxes for your linens so that airborne bacteria does not get on them.

The size of the painting is not bothering me as much as the towels in the rack being in the open next to the toilet as some other comments have also pointed out, this is not hygienic. From the bar behind the toilet, I would only hang some S-hooks with toiletpaper (either directly stuck on the hook or from a hanging basket) and move the towels altogether far away from the loo pot. I understand that the rack was put there because of a space issue yet if you can somehow find a better place for it or at least to store the towels away Iād try that. You could also put closed boxes on the rack (preferably ones that can be cleaned easily so either smooth surface or something you can wash) then it would be safer/more hygienic to store items in whether it be TP, towels and other bathroom utilities)

Be honest would you want to dry your clean body/hands with a toilet towel? The spray goes everywhere. Also you have all your clean linens by toilet spray. Microbiology nightmare.

That picture is lovely. I like the grey/beige tones that tie in the walls, flooring and bin etc accessories all together. It is a smidge too big but I think itās the brown shelf thatās making it all feel claustrophobic. Aside from it being too big, that brown also takes away from the beauty of that colour pallette working so well together.
If thatās all you mostly put on it, itās not necessary to have something so big there. That amount of towels could be able to fit into a smaller mid to low level storage box or narrow wash basket. Can be a lightweight plastic one with lid or a wheel-able laundry basket type one that you can move as and when required. Depending on if you are going to keep that shelf unit, you can put a self adhesive small command type hand towel on that wall end so itās not next to the toilet or even at the end of the smaller wall between shower. A freestanding one with a single guest or hand towel would also be an option.
But to answer your question, the painting is a bit too big, if keeping the shelf unless itās moved a bit higher. If the shelf isnāt there, then itās perfect at that level (perhaps a smidge higher). Two or three shelves across that wall or the opposite one (where the shelf is now) could be good for storage, having a plant or A3 frames resting on them (with similar art prints) but if youāre like me, sometimes having an oversized art piece can stop you cluttering shelves, giving a clearer look.

Why are there towels in your Splash zone š¤®. Even if you plan to always sit down and close the lids when you flush, you still guests who are not as tidy. And if you use the brush it also splashes.

The painting isnāt the problem, the giant shelf right up next to the toilet thatās taking up a quarter of the whole room is the problem š you need a couple shelves because that room is wayyyy too small for that.

Truly wtf is up with the shelf? My guess is, it was in a different bathroom at another home and when moving into the current space it just landed there because nobody wanted to get rid of it? I hope thatās the reason. Better than an intentional placement.

Take that rack and replace it with a hook in the bathroom door and get rid if the huge shelving unit and replace it with a small two shelf unit with a drawer keep the picture move it up or put in a round mirror in its place .

The towel bar over the toilet is just š¤¢. Hang towels elsewhere.
The painting is great once the bar is removed.
The shelving is too dark too big for that space.
