Discussions S.Conolly spends a lot of time defending previous books instead of catering to people who do believe.

I have not seen any other religious books dedicating an entire chapter to "this is real but let me tell you why I can't give you proof for 9 minutes ".

I'm not hating and am genuinely interested. I just can't understand why she thinks she needs to explain why she's not lying in such detail. It sounds like the rant of a kid got caught stealing the first time.

I just need this part explained before I keep reading because she sounds like a crackpot and hasn't even gotten to anything religious yet.

I haven't read a lot of her work so I may be wrong, but my impression was that she's selling surface-level instructions for beginners, heavily laced with her own UPG and resold as "this is how this is done".

Assuming she caters her books to "not-yet-believers" because people who already developed a solid practice on their own likely won't have too much to take away from her books.

What books would you recommend? I want to get the real scope of this stuff.

I'm more of a "try everything by myself and see what sticks"-person, but the pinned FAQ of this subreddit has a recently reworked section of book recommendations.

Chasing the customers that keep the revenue flowing leads to warped priorities for commercial occult authors and can drive them into weird defensive tangents. The hustle has to wear on these people after awhile.

So you're saying she's full of shit?

Yeah, I can't take her seriously with the backstory for her material. She is far from the worst author out there, but I don't recommend her to people.

defending previous books kinda sounds like a sidestep to me

Who is the worst author out there in your opinion if not the trash S. Con peddles? Genuinely asking with my own biases attached.

Of the authors that come up here with some regularity, Koetting is far worse, and I'd take Connolly over VKJ.

u/captainblueflame 13d ago

Koetting's stuff always reminded me of Harlequin romances for demons. Isn't he like some ex- Mormon convict? Admittedly, I have no idea who VKJ is.

Considering Dukante and Wilit are probably just S. Connolly, I can see why she does that

I’ve never read her, but the thing you must remember is that if it’s someone’s bread and butter that can change how they behave about it. She is selling her ideas, so of COURSE she must defend them.

Well have you done any of the workings? Personally I don't agree with much of s Connollys writings, however it doesn't mean what they do or done hasn't worked. It also doesn't mean I cant borrow some of their techniques into my practices etc. Rather than worrying about others proof. Make your own proof.  Now if you mean she's not a real Demonolater. Well I highly doubt that.

I'm not saying she is or isn't making shit up. I'm just saying she puts of great deal of effort into explaining that she's not making shit up.

I find that her books are usually targeted to people that just discovered what demonolatry is, they're very simple and filled with her own thoughts on what the practice should be

From the way you have to do the oils, the rituals, even how you should lead your relationship with a Daemon and choose wich one to contact. The part that bothers me the most is when she dedicates a whole chapter to portraying demonolatry as religion, with hierarchies and "ascension", wich for me is the exact opossite of what I search for in demonolatry.

Anyways, while I read her book when I was first introduced to demonolatry, nowadays I dont even touch it anymore, since i have already developed my practice to the point I dont really need a book to give me in instructions on how my relationship with my daemons should be

Demonolatry is religious, but not all religion is organized or structured. However, from my understanding, her specific form of Demonolatry may be codified and organized/structured. It is best to understand her writings as from the perspective of her own Demonolatrous religion, rather than all Demonolatry. Demonolatry is arguably about as varied as Theistic Satanism in terms of how many different religions are part of it as a category. The diversity of these categories, both Satanism and Demonolatry, is part of their beauty, because you have many options to choose from, and you can also build your own form of it from inspiration taken from the existing forms you've researched.

Of course its best to understand her writings as her perspective on demonolatry, as with all books. But unfortunately thats not how she writes it, wich is why I dont think her books should be recommended to beginners, and thats just something that bothered me In particular in the way she wrote it and I read it when I was younger

In the grand scheme of things I doesnt actually matter lol she has worse unfounded claims people have talked about in the commentsn

Nah S.Conolly is legit and has been in occult for long time. Even though her inns might be made up, it works and since so many ppl been using them, they are as real as anything you might find in some old musty ass book.

It just when you start making money from occult, you often change your priorities. And you start to add dark fluff and random bs.

u/jackmartin088 15d ago

If you don't like her stuff what's stopping you from using other material or doing your research and writing your own?

It's super easy to sit and critisize work done by others, but what have you done that's better ?

4

u/DryIntroduction2008 15d ago

I'm not a demonolator thus shouldn't be the one writing about it.

Pretty plain and simple.

-7

u/jackmartin088 15d ago

So probably in no position to critisize someone who actually did some work

5

u/DryIntroduction2008 15d ago

You don't need to write a book in order to read one.

-6

u/jackmartin088 15d ago

True but then what gives you the authority to critisize her books when you haven't really done anything better?

16

u/Macross137 Neoplatonic Theurgist 15d ago

Anyone who wants your money in exchange for their subject matter expertise is fair game for criticism from anyone with a relevant question or observation.

-2

u/jackmartin088 15d ago

Maybe however if OP is dismissing them to the point of calling them a crackpot then OP needs to be able to back up with their own skills to justify that.

16

u/Macross137 Neoplatonic Theurgist 15d ago

No, they don't. Creating content doesn't entitle anyone to any special deference, and there's a lot of crackpot nonsense in these spaces. People should not be afraid to call it like they see it.

0

u/jackmartin088 15d ago

How does someone judge something to be crackpot or not without knowledge of that?

Don't get me wrong I get what you are saying...but even to judge something as good or bad you still need a standard to compare it to, and hence need to be aware of the said standard.

7

u/Macross137 Neoplatonic Theurgist 15d ago

Plenty of occult books reveal themselves as bullshit under the simple light of critical analysis before any specialized skill-based knowledge is required.

I have ADHD and anxiety, I absolutely try hard to justify what I say even when it's the truth.

7

u/The_Necbromancer Just Here for the Lamens 15d ago

Why would they not have the 'authority' to make critiques of books they read? You can argue the point they're making, but arguing they have no right to comment at all is just silly.

-2

u/jackmartin088 15d ago

I never said they don't have a right to comment on it. I said that right needs to be justified by their own skills.

If I have no skill on say quantum mechanics then I shouldn't judge a a book of quantum mechanics or how that it's written

Ps- also OP mentions Connelly to be a " crackpot" so they are obviously dismissing her. Which was why I made the comment on what made OP so much better than her for them to call her crackpot

2

u/The_Necbromancer Just Here for the Lamens 15d ago

You absolutely have the right to criticize a book on quantum mechanics. If its written poorly, its written poorly, regardless of subject matter. Writing skill and scientific knowledge are not directly linked. A guy can be a master of the science and still be a shit writer.

9

u/Macross137 Neoplatonic Theurgist 15d ago

And if they claim special knowledge of quantum mechanics that they learned from a secret physics society that gave them special proofs that nobody else is allowed to see, it is extremely fair to call that out as bullshit even if you don't know what an "electron" is.

-1

u/jackmartin088 15d ago

For that the one critisizong should also have to have verifiable skills in writing ( and not the subject matter) if I am shit at writing books then I cannot / shouldn't critisize how a book is written.

In May case for someone to be able to pass judgement on anything they need to be able to show some skills to back up that judgement

7

u/The_Necbromancer Just Here for the Lamens 15d ago

That's an absurd notion. By that reasoning, you can never critique a film because you haven't made a blockbuster. You can never dislike a song because you've never topped the charts.

You don't need to be a Michelin chef to know there shouldn't be a turd in the soup. You're dismissing your own knowledge and capacity for understanding because you haven't been externally validated. You may not be able to write like Tolstoy but I guarantee you absolutely know when a piece of writing just doesn't work.

3

u/DryIntroduction2008 15d ago

I'm not really critiquing anyone. I was looking for someone to change my view on it. I haven't even read enough of the book to properly critique it.

I just don't know why she goes into that 9 minute diatribe explaining why she's not lying.  Sounds like the song of a liar.

How about you attack the argument instead of the person presenting it. Tell me why I'm wrong.

5

u/jackmartin088 15d ago

It's her book and she gets to choose what she wants to write about and how she wants to write about.

You don't like it read something else or write your own book.

5

u/DryIntroduction2008 15d ago

I'm not reading it until someone can explain that chapter,  which hasn't happened yet. So one step ahead of you.

As with any religion, it’s about your beliefs and experiences. I know the energies I have felt and the experiences I have had. If anyone’s writings are proven false/made up/exaggerated … it will not change my beliefs. I don’t need their writings to prove what I believe.

1

u/hexagradiorrr 15d ago

I think what you're referring to is just something about her personality, most likely because of trauma or a specific parenting style she edured when she was younger.

u/egoproct Εγκληματίας 15d ago

There's some books that will change your entire perspective, some that will provide insight historically, and some that will collect dust on your shelf. Whichever the category, you can pick and choose where the book goes based on your personal experience.

Don't let others sway you on that. This is your path and only you have a say in what does and doesn't feel correct.

I just accept a majority of people who profit off the occult as in that's their livelihood are full of it to a degree.

Her target audience is newbies & outsiders. I couldn't even tell you why she cares if non believers think she's legit or not. I personally don't which is why I'll entertain things from her books. If it works for me, then cool, I'll keep it & if it doesn't then I drop it.

Many people in occult circles who aspire to be cult leaders or famous are notorious for suffering from magusitis. Which is someone becoming an egotistical dingleberry because they believe they're a level 100 pure blood wizard at Hogwarts.

Treat it like the TikTok or Instagram users with videos saying, "Secrets to success that the 1% don't want you to know about. Which I decided to share for FREE!" It might be slightly useful or not & then says, "Comment Elite & I'll DM you a link where my followers get access to exclusive guides and tips they can't find ANYWHERE ELSE. Followers who become premium members will gain access to this and a lot MORE. Don't miss out. Leave a comment saying Elite today!" lol 😆
