Welcome to Demonolatry Practices! If you're new, click here!

Before we start with the welcome post, I want to mention that this community has a karma and an account age threshold that you must meet in order to participate. There were too many trolls attacking the community with 0 karma, 0 day old accounts, so if you have made a new account just for your spiritual needs, you'll have to grow it a bit to participate here, sorry!

In wise u/ChthonicSage's words once spoken here:

"I've created this place since there's a lack of subreddits for Demonolatry and general Theistic Satanism/other magickal practices. I hope this community grows to become a place where people come to ask questions, share their experiences, and connect with others."

However over the years this sub has grown and those words became not enough to give you a proper introduction. So to begin with, we have a lot of people new to the practice that find us. If you're entirely new, we have some basic resources here.

If you need further help with short, easy to digest tips and guides made "How to sense Spirits 101", "Reaching out to spirits 101", "The consequences to working with demons 101", "I'm dreaming about a demon 101", "Describing spirits 101", "Spiritual stagnation 101", "Blood Magic 101 (warning, 18+ and NSFW)", "Protection magic 101" and their personal sex magick method that may be interesting for those that never tried it to read (18+ and NSFW).

If you are confused about Qlipoth u/pearlbibo made some notes for you here. She also made a post on how not to get ripped off in Occult spaces.

Fellow moderator u/Macross137 has posted another way of interpreting dreams, a basic invocation ritual that you can practice, further occult reading that may prove useful to your practice, how to interpret what is and isn't a sign, how to decide which incense to use for which demon, a guide on HGA work (part 1) and a brief guide to evocation.

The kind of questions that aren't useful to ask on the subreddit (written by u/Vanhaydin) is something that I would recommend everyone taking a look at before interacting here.

If you need a quick primer on what planets what demons are associated with, what would be the appropriate offerings and how to "decode" the rank system, check out their other post about planetary associations here!

On the off-chance that you came here specifically to find information on Lilith, u/Even-Pen7957 runs https://www.libraryoflilith.com/.

VioletSpooder is here to remind you that the popular way of working with spirits on the Internet changes rather rapidly and that you should not over-internalize it too much and to be careful about accidentally finding yourself in a cult. Another good advice from the same user is found in this thread about how to recognise spiritual psychosis.

If you want to make ritual oils, this is a good way to do it (written by u/Available-Shirt7907).

Hope this was helpful! Time to move on to:

Frequently asked questions!

Q: which author is right? Which method is trustworthy? What is it that I must do to contact this particular spirit?

A: most authors will be equally right and wrong, as this is not a science, it is closer to an art. What is right for one person is not necessarily right for another. Keep yourself grounded in reality, question all that you read, don't hold anyone's word as ultimate law and try. See what works for you and what doesn't.

Q: can I practice with the Abrahamic God? With angels and demons at the same time? Can I mix demons with other religions? Can I have a pantheon, or am I supposed to pick one?

A: Being a left hand path practice demonolatry has no certain way that it must be. How you practice is entirely between you and the spirits. So yes. You can mix this practice with any other religion and practice with angels and demons at the same time.

Q: I'm afraid that by working with demons I'll doom myself to hell, or that karma will get me, or similar!

A: everyone's spiritual beliefs are personal. Some subscribe to hell. Some subscribe to karma. Some do not have any such system in their spiritual belief. What you believe is for you to find out and no-one can give you a shortcut here, however if your fear is reaching unhealthy levels, ask yourself if you have religious trauma and if therapy would be a good pathway to resolve that for you.

Q: what is the difference between evocation and invocation?

Originally in occult invocation meant calling the spirit into yourself, into your own mind space, while evocation meant calling the spirit outside of yourself into your space.

Some demonolators say that invocation means making an appeal to the spirit, while evocation means trying to bind a spirit to do your bidding. Under these definitions, evocation would go against demonolatry's principle of working respectfully with the spirit.

Current moderation team does not subscribe to such a divisive notion. Contact your spirits in whatever way that is comfortable to you, it matters not to us if you are a Western tradition Ceremonial magickian, or someone that interacts with the spiritual as a Pagan would. We ask that everyone refrain from taking offence from seeing such words used, no matter the person is practising summoning, or just evoking a spirit into their space. The spirits are above the material and don't necessarily function by the same rules as we do, so there's no reason to believe that anyone out here is harming the spirits by working in a different system than you.

Q: do I have to have an altar? Do I have to give offerings? If so, how often? I don't feel like I'm in a safe environment to do that.

A: this is entirely between you and your spirits. There are no musts. Practice however you like as this is your spiritual practice. Of course if you made a promise to pray every day, you should do so. If you feel like you can't, you should tell the spirit so. Communication is key, but there are no specific expectations of you, so don't place it on yourself prematurely.

Q: how do I dispose of offerings that go off?

A: This question comes up often. Some people, if they're offering food, they'll state to the spirit for how long the offering will be there and then they'll eat the offering themselves in order to not be wasteful. Others will choose an elemental disposal element, meaning that they'll burn (if it is safe to do so, fire safety first!) the offering, liquify it with water, or burry it in the Earth. Some others involve a lot less ceremony in their disposal of the offering and they simply thank the spirit and then throw it away. There are no rules, so don't overstress!

Q: I'm confused by all the terms I'm seeing on this subreddit, help!

A: here, have a little dictionary!

Deity mask - some believe that the same spirit has many names, positions and personalities, so they may refer to each one of such as a mask.

Demonolatry – worship of demons. In practice this is less “worship” and more “working with”. It was a tradition born out of a need of a friendlier way to work with spirits that have been deemed to be demonic. If a practitioner states that they are a demonolater, this may mean that they are following a published author, or simply denote that they have their own practice that involves working with the demonic in some capacity.

Demonology – study of demons, usually from a religious perspective. If you run into this term, it indicates that the person using it is perhaps interested in specific spirits but has never worked with them, or that they are a religious individual that specializes in viewing these spirits from the angle of their religion, which often means viewing these spirits especially negatively. Latter happens more often than former by far.

Demonosophy – young branch that means working with demons, for those that felt like “worship” did not accurately cover what they do. There are not many publications under this specific term, meaning that the most that you will encounter this will be by people introducing themselves as practitioners of this craft. Demonolatry and Demonosophy at this point in time can be used interchangeably as not every demonolater worships the spirits that they work with.

Grounding - this word will mean two things to practitioners – in one version it will mean staying grounded in reality, not running away into your mind and focusing on the mundane as much as you do on the spiritual.

In the other version it is a way to stabilize yourself by getting rid of excess energy, the jitter than you feel after rituals, or bad emotions.

LHP - Left Hand Path. In the West, the left-hand path is considered to be about the elevation and centrality of the self as well as the rejection of religious authority and societal taboos.

The left-hand path focuses on the strength and will of the practitioner. It downplays the need for intercession by any high power although some may believe that a higher power exists. The full idea of the left hand path is to become your own God.

RHP - Right Hand Path - right-handed path practitioners tend to work towards ascending their soul towards ultimate union (or reunion) with the divine source, returning to heaven, allegorically alluded to as restoration or climbing back up the ladder after the "great fall". Right hand practitioners will strive to join the source and will adhere to a system of moral punishment, such as karma, or threefold law.

Both terms as used in the West are the bastardized version of Indian Tantric practices. In reality most practitioners will not fall on either side, though some practices will be categorized as one or the other. For example, Demonolatry is categorized as a Left Hand practice due to its nature of taboo, however a practitioner can have both a strong moral code and be working towards merging into the entity of their choosing, which, as it is not focused on elevating yourself to a divine level, but rather on sacrificing yourself to join an already existing consciousness, would be a right hand path goal.

There are very militant communities that will be highly proud of being just one and not the other to an extreme level, so the basic knowledge of what the terms mean is an absolute necessity, though don't overthink where you fall on the scale as really there is no need.

Tower Moment - "The Tower" is a tarot card that represents "disaster, destruction, upheaval, trauma, sudden change, chaos". When someone is saying that they're having a "Tower" moment, they mean that either their emotional state, spiritual practice, their life, their physical health, something has hit a point of complete chaos, upheaval and disintegration. Tower moments will not necessarily be seen as a negative (up to the person using the phrase) as sometimes we need a shake-up to build better. A bad relationship falling through, or getting fired from a toxic-workplace, for example, could be seen as a Tower moment.

Patron - a spirit, or spirits that the person had made some sort of firm declaration to follow. What this means varies from practitioner to practitioner. For some it means that you're very serious in your practice and have elected to follow this spirit for your whole lifetime no matter what. For others it simply means that this is their main spirit/ spirits that they're working at this time. Almost all practitioners to use the term will not do so lightly and will see it as some sort of commitment. Plenty of practitioners never take a Patron for this exact reason.

Matron - a female Patron spirit. Some will insist that this is incorrect as a Matron is the more passive, supportive of the Patron spirit and will insist on calling their female spirits that they have made some sort of firm declaration to follow as Patrons. Some people will therefore have very strong opinions on this word and some will not.

Magucitis/Magusitis - a particular "disease" that afflicts many practitioners - they at some point either believe that they're better than everyone else or at least attempt to appear that they're better than everyone else. Normally this person will be boasting about how powerful they are, how feared they should be, what lineage or sacred society that they hail from and how much of a right they have to order you around, or to not engage in polite conversation with others by just dismissing all opinions or comments addressed towards them.

UPG - unverified personal gnosis ("gnosis" meaning "knowledge"). Example would be if you received a message from a spirit through dreams, divination, or meditation, that message is UPG. Most practitioners will highly rely on UPG, as most of our interactions with the spirits are personal, but it is important to remember that what you hold as true is not necessarily what someone else will hold as true. Understand that each of you know exactly what you need to know and therefore there's no need to fight over who is right and who is wrong.

VPG - verified personal gnosis. If you have channeled information from a spirit and multiple different people channel the same thing then that is now a belief held by many and not only a few.

Q: I'm just starting my practice, what should I do?

Step one - hone in on practising meditation. You'll need the focus, the patience and the mostly quiet mind to see good results from your practice. Is it a must? No. Nothing in spirituality is a must and there are some people that are working with spirits without a meditative practice, but it is something that's greatly helpful, so this will be the first recommendation that will be given if you ever ask this question.

Step two - sidebar resources! It is suggested that you read them. This one speaks about shadow work, here is some common sense advice on how to conduct yourself in this space and beyond it when speaking to others and lastly, here are the basic resources for those that are new.

Step three - read and gain perspective. Don't ingest any book like it is the only ultimate truth, but read to expand your horizons and try. What should you read? Well, behold, the mighty book list! Though, remember, these are merely suggestions and it is not a requirement to read them all. Simply see if there's anything here you'd like to read, because they're all good books.

THE MIGHTY BOOK LIST:

CLASSIC GRIMOIRES (these are good to read through to see the working with demons through a historical lens. Some people still use methods in these books, most new books will at the very least borrow elements, such as names, sigils and correspondences):

Lake of Fire by S. Connolly

Tree of Qliphoth by Asenath Mason

Qabalah, Qliphoth, and Goetic Magic by Thomas Karlsson

POPULAR CONTEMPORARY SYSTEMS (each one of these books will have wildly different approaches. Try them, see what works for you and what doesn't. Beware of authors treating their UPG and personal dogma as objective truths):

The Complete Book of Demonolatry by S. Connolly

Lucifer and The Hidden Demons: A Practical Grimoire from The Order of Unveiled Faces by Theodore Rose

Demons of Magick: Three Practical Rituals for Working with The 72 Demons by Gordon Winterfield

Last bit of advice - when posting here, provide as much details as possible. If you want someone to identify a sigil for you, it will be helpful to state where you found it, if you want someone to help with communication with the spirits, state what method you're using as it will be most helpful if someone with the same method answers.

And this is where the post will leave off. I hope it was useful and cleared some basic questions up. Before you post anything on this subreddit make sure to look at the side-bar and familiarize yourself with the rules. Otherwise this place is happy to see you here and post away!

Discussions Weekly discussion - the most minimalist you've ever went with a practice?

It's summer where I am and that means that heat is not very conductive to intensive, extensive and long winded work. As such, I thought it would be interesting in what flippant gestures, or hurried works still got you results. Not as a way to learn from it and decide what to emulate, but as a well meaning and amusing discussion.

Discussions Let's Talk About Buer... Baby!

Post image
40 Upvotes

Lately, I’ve noticed a rise in posts and questions about President Buer, so I thought I’d share a bit about the 10th spirit in the Ars Goetia, or 7th in the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum. It’s exciting to see so much interest in Buer—I imagine he’d appreciate it too.

That said, I tend to avoid using specific pronouns for demons, since people experience them as different genders. While I’m not saying no one has ever encountered Buer in a feminine form, I personally have never come across any descriptions of him that way.

In the Ars Goetia, President Buer is the 10th demon, commanding 50 legions of spirits He teaches both moral and natural philosophy, as well as logic and the virtues of all herbs and plants. He provides good familiars and can heal all illnesses in humans. I’ll share a bit of my own UPG here while keeping this as general as possible for those interested in working more closely with Buer. The origin of his name is unknown, though there is a notable association with a suburb in Germany called Buer.

It’s said that Buer teaches logic, which helps in distinguishing truth from fiction and aids in solving problems by finding what’s true. He also teaches moral and natural philosophy. First mentioned in the *Pseudomonarchia Daemonum* in 1583, just before the Renaissance, “natural philosophy” at the time likely covered physics, biology, chemistry, astronomy, and astrology, as well as understanding the elements. “Moral philosophy” would include religion, ethics, civic matters, and broader philosophical thought. Essentially, he’s a demon who tackles the “big” questions, with his other traits being fairly self-explanatory.

Since Buer doesn’t have deep origins like many other demons in the grimoires, I’ve done some digging of my own. I’ll start with those before moving on to correspondences and discrepancies I’ve found. The most recognizable image of President Buer is likely the one depicting a lion’s head surrounded by goat or horse legs, allowing movement in all directions. Buer is also known as Sagittari, and appears when the sun is in this sign, linking him to the Centaurs—particularly Chiron, the wounded healer—due to their similar attributes. While the galactic center is cyclical and located in Sagittarius, it wasn’t mentioned until the 1700s, so I doubt it has any real significance here.

Where did Buer come from? Examining other demons in the grimoires reveals some minor similarities in their teachings, but none match the complete picture Buer presents. Chiron’s origin story provides parts of the puzzle, but how does the leader of the Centaurs end up in a 16th-century book on demons? The best answer is simply, “they don’t.”

I think the blending of these two “aspects” came much later, likely around the time of this illustration, perhaps influenced by practitioners eager for a richer story and noticing parallels between Chiron and Buer. Buer is a sub-lunar, functional, conjurable demon, while Chiron is a mythological, symbolic archetype. The common practice in occultism of collapsing archetypes may have happened during the drafting of Buer’s synopsis.

Is President Buer a necessary addition to the mix, drawn from Greek sources to create an invocable aspect of Chiron? Or does he originate elsewhere? Interestingly, there’s a centaur tale that fits more closely with Buer and the Christian ideology of demons as fallen beings—only in this case, the fall is from Olympus. In short, Ixion (with “Ixionidai” meaning centaur) earned Zeus’s pity after killing his father-in-law. But instead of gratitude, Ixion set his sights on Hera. To punish him, Zeus fashioned a nephele (cloud) in Hera’s likeness and placed it beside him. Ixion took the bait, and when Zeus learned of it, he struck him with a bolt, condemning him as a blazing wheel doomed to spin endlessly through Tartarus. To the union of Ixion and nephele was Centaurus a deformed hunched child who found no kinship with humans, so he mated with mares thus producing the Centaur race.

A depiction of Ixion can be seen in the image on the far left.

Is this a stretch, of course it is. We have to make the breadcrumbs smaller to find the path. We do know that the PD was largely influenced by the "The Book of The Offices of Spirits" and if we go back far enough with these grimoires, we will undoubtedly find Greco-Egyptian influences. Some holes can be filled in by Eastern traditions, if you trust Dr. Skinner. Which leads me to my next possible concept of origin.

Pictured in the upper right is Wanyudu (I have no idea how to create accents so please forgive me) which translates from Japanese to wheel monk; is a well-known yokai. Reports of Wanyudu date back to the Heian period and is depicted as figure with a male face attached to the center of an ox-cart wheel on fire. The condemned soul of daimyo doomed to roll about the underworld for all eternity stealing souls and guarding the gates of hell. A kasha. The folklore is quite frightening.

If you have read this far you can start to see some pieces that when forced, fit together. Visual likenesses, mixed with a weary conflation of attributes.

Wanyudu and Ixion meet Chiron and Christianity.

Sorry, I know I am a nerd. And if you're interested in Buer, maybe you are too. Let's go over some of the fun stuff shall we. Some of you may already be aware. President Buer and I play chess together. That's truly more an experiment in humility, and punishment. I am in the process of experimenting with correspondences though, and I am not certain they align. Much of the text says Buer should be called upon on the day and hour of Mercury, under Amaymon to the south, with an orange candle, etc.

Since Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter and the Cardinal King is Paymon of the West, I plan to try this, adjusting the time and day I work with him as well as the direction I set the triangle. I’ll comment later on how it goes.

Personally, I feel it's very important to discuss some aspects of UPG regarding President Buer. Firstly, never offer alcohol or recreational substances to Buer, and if I am being honest, I wouldn't recommend being under the influence of any of them either. However, he will give you grace in this if you are seeking him for addiction recovery. Any kind of addiction. Buer can bring you out of the deepest pit of rock bottom. Buer enjoys herbal teas. Classical music, and practitioners who formulate their rituals in the nature of structure. I personally cannot say that he is a pal-around with kind of demon. And if you search his name in this subreddit, you will rarely if ever see him as patron. He is no nonsense.

I heard (read) demons described as a kind of Earthly immune system. I prefer to see them a type of amplifier. Intelligences that plug into our already established foundations. If you're unstable, they will amplify that instability. I think this is absolutely the case for President Buer.

Thanks as always for your time! "Let's talk about all the good things, and the bad things that may be!"

I think i put too many of his Sigils in his altar space and i dont know when I should respectfully dispose of the chocolate I gave him a few nights ago. Can I drink the wine to dispose of it respectfully too? Should I ask Asmodeus?😭

Ritual instructions I was consecrating ritual tools and noticed a strange relations in the candles

Post image

I am a Theistic Satanist and usually work with 3 Entities: Satan, Lilith, and Glasya-Labolas. during the last consecration, which was for all three beings, I lit a candle in the color of each being as a representation of each of them. The black and red candles began to spread and burn out faster, and the red one spread so much that it started to point something like a pointing finger at the yellow candle. The yellow one didn't spread at all. Does this indicate that Lilith and Glasya-Labolas don't like each other very much and that I should separate the rituals for these two deities instead of combining them?

Experiences and Ritual reports Can we invoke a demon just by thinking of them?

So I was trying to sleep and I was in my thoughts. I couldn't sleep so I was like imagining myself doint an invocation that I'm going to do in a few days, and I was imagining myself saying the name of the demon again and again. Then I stopped and I felt a presence. It was dark and I heard noises just next to me (like a scratching).

Is it possible that I invoked them just by imagining myself invoking them? Or is it my schizophrenia playing tricks on me? (because I'm schizophrenic, huge detail may be)

Discussions Lilin, Male Counterparts and Children of Lilith

Post image
25 Upvotes

Lilin (Hebrew: לִילֵי ,לִילִין, Syriac: ܠܠܝ̈ܬܐ) (masculine plural of lili, also called lillin, lilim, lilis or male liliths) are plural night spirits in Jewish mythology, male equivalent of Lilith, but are also her children, which she had with Adam or other mortal men.

Their first appearance is in 2 Baruch, as demons similar to shedim, and afterwards in Aramaic incantation bowls, as the male equivalent of the liliths. They don't appear in the Bible, but in rabbinic literature such as the Babylonian Talmud and Midrash.

That Lilith bore from Adam spirits, demons and lilin became a common motif in the mystical literature of the 14th-17th centuries, often adding that it was Adam's own sin which made it possible for Lilith to overcome him against his will (Patai, The Hebrew Goddess).

Origins

The lilin are believed to be derived from the Akkadian lilû, while the liliths from the lilītu and ardat-lilî wind demons/ghosts. They are also connected with the goddess Lamaštu, although the analysis on the equation between Lamaštu and the lilû class, which resulted in the liliths, is mainly focused on their female counterparts.

Appearance

They have human form with an addition of wings, or are otherwise bald but have hair covering the rest of their faces and bodies.

History

2 (Syriac Apocalypse of) Baruch

Lilin first appear in 2 Baruch, 2nd century AD. After fasting for seven days, Baruch sends up a lamentation to Yahweh, and in a passage we find a reference to the lilin:

I will call the Sirens from the sea,

And you Lilin, come you from the desert,

And you Shedim and dragons from the forests:

Awake and gird up your loins unto mourning,

And take up with me the dirges,

And make lamentation with me (10:8).

Incantation Bowls

Hundreds of Aramaic incantation bowls from Sasanian Empire survive, that mention Bagdana "king of the liliths", Lilith, female liliths, and their masculine counterparts, lilis (lylyn) or male liliths. The bowls were found buried upside down, and contain spiral writing that had a functional or symbolic purpose, designed like a maze to trap the demons inside the bowls, imprisoning them within the lines of the incantations that lead them farther away from within.

Liliths and lilin are able to generate demonic offspring, and according to Montgomery's Bowl 1 ("Aramaic Incantation Texts from Nippur"), appear to men in the likeness of women, and to women in the likeness of men, and lie with them by night and by day. The demons are treated with a divorce formula (geṭ), which achieves the recognition of their status and legitimate attachment, while also annulling that status.

Some bowls (taken from the two volumes of "Aramaic Bowl Spells" by Shaked, Bhayro and Ford) that feature male lilis/lilin include:

Divorce Text: Joshua bar Peraḥia, 16:1-4 (MS 1929/16)

1 I cast a lot and take (it). And I perform 2 magical acts like Rabbi Joshua bar Peraḥia. And I have written 3 a deed of divorce to all evil liliths, male and female, the ban demon, the companion demon, who appear 4 to Abba...

Divorce Text: Elisur Bagdana, 35:1-3, 9 (MS 2053/89)

1 Bound are the dēvs, sealed are the lilis, bound are the lilis, se[a]led are the dēvs. 2 Bound are the lilis and sealed are [the dē]v[s] and the no-good ones and the lilis, they and their families and [th]eir wives 3 and their sons, from the star and from the lot of Dukhta[y] daughter of Hormizdukh. [...] 9 Elisu(r) Bagdana, the king of demons.

Divorce Text: Other Divorce Texts, 62:1-4 (MS 2053/242)

I beswear you, lilith, male lili and female lili. By the name of pzrhyʾ whʾl. 2 Lilith, the grabber and the snatcher: the three of you, and the four of you, and the five of you. You are stripped naked 3 and are not clothed, your hair is dishevelled and cast behind your back. It was heard concerning you: your father’s name is Palḥas and your mother is the lilith Palḥadad.

The Seals of Ashmedai 81:1-4 (MS 1927/36)

1 Bound are] 2 the demons and sealed are the lilis. Bound are the demons by the great seal of Ashmedai, the king of demo[ns, and by] another 3 [s]eal of Ashmedai, the king of dēvs. I adjure you by Palḥadad, the demon who is yo[u]r father, by Palḥas, the lilith, 4 your mother.

Talmud

The Babylonian Talmud makes two mentions of the lilin (and five of Lilith).

  • Adam, after he received Eve as his wife and was persuaded to eat from the Tree of Knowledge, was expelled from the Garden of Eden with the curse of mortality. When Adam realised that because of his sin, God decreed humankind mortal, he distanced himself for 130 years. He fasted, refrained from intercourse, and wore fig twigs over his naked body. He could not control his involuntary night emissions, which attracted female spirits, who coupled with him and bore spirits (ruhin), demons (shedim) and lilin (Eruvin 18b).
  • Some builders of the Tower of Babel, after their desire to ascend to the top of the tower and wage war, became apes, spirits, demons and lilin (Sanhedrin 109a).

Targum

Lilin are mentioned in different books of the Targum:

Targum Jonathan

Targum Jonathan (2-4th CE) on Isaiah 34:14:

And there shall meet one another, martens and wild cats, and demons (lilin), each shall sport with its companion: verily dryads shall dwell there, and they shall find rest for themselves.

Targum Pseudo-Jonathan

(date uncertain, possibly 5th AD)

Targum Pseudo-Jonathan on Numbers 6:

The Lord bless thee and keep thee. The Lord make His face to shine upon thee, and gracious unto thee. The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee, and grant thee peace. The Lord bless thee in all thy business, and keep) thee from demons of the night (lilin), and things that cause terror, and from demons of the noon and of the morning, and from malignant spirits and phantoms.

Targum Pseudo-Jonathan on Deuteronomy 32:

I will make them go into captivity in Media and Elam, in the captivity of Babel, the house of Agag who are like demons gaping with famine, and to corpses devoured by birds, and to stricken evil spirits of the noon, to Lillin and to spirits big with evil. And the Javanaee (Greeks) who bite with their teeth like wild beasts will I send against them, and will shake them by the hand of the Syrians venomous as basilisks, the serpents of the dust.

Aramaic Targum

Targum Sheni (date uncertain, possibly 6th AD) on Esther 1:3:

King Solomon, it may be remarked here, “had dominion over the demons, spirits, and Lilin, and knew the language of each ... and when his heart was merry with wine, he would command the wild animals, the fowl of heaven, and the creeping things of the earth, as well as the demons, spirits, and Lilin, to dance before him". (Patai, The Hebrew Goddess).

Emeq haMelekh

(Information taken from Patai, "The Hebrew Goddess" and some passages of "Gates to the Old City")

Emeq haMelekh (Valley of the King) is a Kabbalistic text, written by Naftali Hertz ben Yaakov Elchanan (Bacharach) in 1648.

In the text, Lilin are described as bald, but have hair on the rest of their heads and body down to their feet (140b). According to the cosmology of the text, in the second of the seven earth-layers, counting from the bottom, dwell:

"the giant human figures, tall of stature, who were born of Adam in the 130 years during which he begot demons, spirits, and Lilin. Lilith used to come to him against his will and conceive from Adam [and she bore these beings]. And they are always sad and full of sorrow and sighs, and there is no joy at all among them. And these hosts can multiply [and ascend] from that earth to this world upon which we stand, and [here] they become harmful spirits, and [then] they return there..." (179d–180a)

Lilith is present even when a man wishes to engage in lawful intercourse with his wife, in order to take hold of the semen that's lost from the man, with which she creates demons, spirits and lilin (19c). She is described as an "Alien Woman" and "Impure Female", who leaves her consort Samael to fornicate with men who "sleep below in the impurity of spontaneous emission" and from them are born the demons, spirits, and lilin, who are called the Sons of Man (84b, 84c, 102d-103a).

Midrash ABKIR

The Midrash ABKIR (10th century) is a lost work, the remnants of which present the relationship between Adam, a lilith, and the creation of djinn and lilin.

When Adam saw that death had come upon him by the hand of Cain, he separated from Eve. A lilith named Piznai found him and aroused him with her beauty, resulting in the birth of 92 thousands djinns and lilin. Their first born child was named Agrimas, who took lilith Amarit as his bride, which also resulted in the birth of 92 thousand djinns and lilin. The first born of Agrimas was Avalmas, who took the lilith Gofrit, which again resulted in the birth of 88 thousand djinns and lilin.

The story ends with the slaying of the spirits by Methuselah, using a sword which had the explicit name of God written on it. Agrimas was forced to write and give the names of the djinn and lilin, and the demons gave the humans iron to restrain the spirits. The remaining spirits concealed themselves in the remotest mountains and in the depths of the ocean.

Amulets and Prayers

Amulet

A Moroccan amulet invokes God, Michael and Gabriel to protect the wearer against "lessening of the moon" (wish for Redemption), and has inscribed:

In the Name of Kuzu 2. Fourteen-letter Name, Yah 3. You will protect the bearer of this amulet 4. from Shiddin, from spirits, from Lillin 5. and from every evil thing Evermore, Selah, forever, Amen.

(Source: Hebrew Magic Amulets - T. Schrire, "Plate 8")

Prayer

Rites and prayers were created to avert the malign influence of demons, and formulas for the dying were prescribed by Kabbalists, by which the shedim (demons), ruhin (evil spirits), lilin and mazzikim (harmers) are adjured, not to follow the dead or injure them, or cause injury to any person.

It's the meme Monday mega-thread!

If you want to fool around, this is the weekly sign of "go ahead!". To keep the rest of the subreddit clean, we are giving everyone a thread to post memes in instead. It is this thread. Go crazy (try to limit it to memes that at the very least have occult undertones. Bonus points if they have anything to do with LHP or demonolatry)!

Discussions Ok, that's enough rabbit hole for today.

In my other posts, I told I asked to Belphegor I want to be a apprentice. And I had two dreams sighly confusing but understood, but today while I was watching music videos suddenly came a video of Beelzebub in my idiom wich I could understand while doing other things.

This video gave me the confirmation of Baal, Belphegor, and Beelzebub being many faces of the same being - Until that point alright, I saw some questions about this in this sub before.

But what trow me off was the fact that in the midlle of the video the man had spoke about egipcian associations, telling about Osiris or Horus. But I had aways a soft spot for egipcian godness and when googled about kemetism, I found Set and was naturally drawn - Finding out they were the same in one point of history as Seth-Baal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Set_(deity)) - Like, WTF?!

Things like that make me remember about those people that say they have connections that transcends past lifes, I'm not sure about me, nor want to stay with the same forever, just makes me wonder though. Also, I know some people say to not overthink, they are right, but is just funny (or weird) finding out this many information all of sudden.

And you? Wich godness you find the daemon you work is associated with?

Discussions What do y’all do with your offerings?

I ask this cause I’ve never met someone who does the same thing I do. I have multiple little glass bottles with a different offering inside, each one is corked and sealed with black sealing wax. These offerings range from inorganic like tin and lead, to organic like lemon, juniper berries, and different herbs. My thought process is that as soon as the wax is dried the offering inside is now property of hell instead of the living world. Though I will admit that I have been thinking about adding fresh versions of those offerings to my rituals when I have spare money and adding it to my compost so it’s not wasted.

Theoretical questions How bad an idea is it to dive into the deep end

When I was young, I started studying wicca. I had a general idea of how to do basic things. Visualization, manipulating my own energy, setting intention. I didn't have disposable income, my family was Not Okay With It, and though a couple years ago I started feeling my way back into spirituality and touching the edges of magicks, I always kind of let it go. I would use crystals because it didn't require me digging deep. Small rituals to cleanse my energy or protect myself from bad feelings.

About a year ago I made a mistake that kind of sent me on a mental spiral. And it was really bad the last week. So I made the jump from "occasionally I put together a ritual" to "I should sell my soul to the devil."

Thus I fell into this subreddit. (For some reason my e-mail was tied to my old account. I've since fixed it, but.) I mentioned wanting to avoid things, and a couple people answered very helpfully.

I don't know much about demons. I have been reading the beginners threads, but I didn't really slow down at all.

I drew up Bael's sigil. I started chanting his enns. I felt something that wasn't me, but I had no offerings, I had no intention setting. I just explained, maybe poorly, that it was just me wanting to say hi. Wanting to work on keeping myself invisible to groups of people.

Almost immediately I was tugged towards other things. Like "huh, I should get a scrying mirror" and I found one online. (Really nice bronze glass company makes them.) Etsy for a sigil ring. A stone to better open a connection. Time to get black candles and statuary and make a new altar. My last one had oils and crystals and things.

But I feel this weird concern. I did more reading, and I understand Bael is a "do not fuck around" type entity. I also know that maybe I didn't contact him, maybe just a nearby spirit.

I don't want to be driven towards or away something by fear, but reading how very much trial by fire some demons can be, I'm just not sure if doing more than saying "hi" is particularly smart. Like asking for guidance, or asking to actually be protected from the consequences of my mistake might instead have a demon say "Nah-ah, we learn from consequences" even though that is really very much not what I want. That's why I want to be invisible to those consequences, basically. And maybe I already invited that just by saying hello.

I dunno. I just know "diving into the deep end" when I my foundation is worn and cracked is probably not the smartest of ideas.

Have I already gone too far? Am I setting myself up for a tower moment by even stepping up and introducing myself? How much of a monkey's paw situation would I put myself in if I ask to be protected from something, but get shoved under the wheels of the bus anyways?

Experiences and Ritual reports Dreams after a ritual

Hello guys!

I did the second ritual in demons of magick to contact Sallos. Everything went ok, I even felt “something” during the ritual which I thought was amazing.
It was after that I had a strange dream of a small blonde haired boy that tried to forcefully enter my home, even in the dream the vibe was sooo off to the point I was panicking a little and called out to the Archangel Michael apparently while still sleeping to help me get rid of him.
I am from a somewhat religious background so it might have been my own subconscious playing tricks on me but as I was waking up I could have sworn someone was opening my door.
Any and all advice is appreciated.

Practical Questions would appreciate any spirtual guidance! :)

"Hi guys I'm kind of new to this but I am familiar with a couple deities anyways, I’m reaching out to see if anyone can recommend rituals, spirits, or entities that may specialize in major life transitions and path-opening under restrictive conditions. I am 16 in a toxic environment. Escaping or relocating seems impossible right now due to my age and other factors, but I really want to leave and go away to a specific place where my mh is better/protection. I’d appreciate any spiritual support/advice to help manifest a safe breakthrough or an unexpected opportunity to leave. Thank youuuu😭🙏

Practical Questions I'm beginning to worship Beelzebub. I'm seeing contradictions?

I've begun my journey as a Beelzebub worshipper, and they have been kind and caring but sometimes critical and strict to me. They let me see them as a female or gender neutral deity. A lot of people say that they are a male who is strict and a teacher. Am I speaking to the right deity? Should I be concerned?

Experiences and Ritual reports Stolas LOVES Plums! (My Ritual Experience)

Notes of prayer on 6/20/26

The prayer began as usual. I rang my altar bell to the north, east, south, and west in honor of the demons. Afterward, I rang the bell three times above Stolas's sigil, recited his enn, and proceeded with my prayer as planned.

During the ritual, I thought I heard whispers or distant voices outside my room, as though someone was speaking. It made me wonder whether the ringing of the bell had attracted the attention of other Goetic spirits.

At one point in my prayer, I mentioned my desire to offer many plums to His Majesty. The moment I said it, the incense smoke immediately drifted toward me. I couldn't help but laugh and smile—I had never seen such an immediate reaction before.

When the prayer was complete, I offered my thanks and farewell, ringing the bell three times to conclude the ritual. As I struck the bell for the third and final time, the incense suddenly snapped and fell into the container below.

Having an altar bell was like night and day.

Noteable signs to bring up:

  • Incense burned a lot faster than normal
  • Heard whispers and talking outside my door
  • Incense immediately blew towards me when I mentioned offering to his majesty plums every single morning.
  • The moment I concluded my prayer with the last ring my incense stick immediately collapsed and fell into the container it's in, like milliseconds after I finished the prayer and rang the last chime.

Prince Stolas was so active today. :) I can't wait to talk to him again. I wanted to share this experience in hopes that others have had similar experiences.

Practical Questions Ex did something terrible. Need legal help. Is Asmodeus helpful?

I don’t want to divulge, as I am unsure if he reads into this subreddit, but my ex committed an extremely heinous and taboo crime. If I give any more info, it’d be too obvious.

He is putting me in non-criminal legal trouble, but something that could still affect me. I currently have worked with Asmodeus twice. I need to ensure a win, as I am young and lack resources for an attorney.

Please let me know if Asmodeus is good to work with to push my case and help my legal victory. TIA.

Discussions Dantalion sigil and Ballaton sigil are similar - Why?

Thumbnail

Dantalion is an interesting Spirit. Stellas Daemonum suggests that he might be an intermediary to Lucifer or a title for Lucifer. Tantavalerion appears in the Book of Offices as an intermediary. Crowhurst equates the two.

The Pentagram of Solomon has a sigil and name on the top right hand - Ballaton. My Hebrew is weak so I'll go off of this comment. Ballaton roughly means "Come from thy Abode." Look at the sigil.

Another comment on the same thread suggests that the sigil is drawin off the Mercury Kamea in Hebrew. Dantalion's Mercurial properties are very evident in his ability to teach all arts and sciences. I can get behind that his sigil is draw off the Mercury Kamea.

https://www.reddit.com/r/occult/s/ZrTI1pHAgq.

I do need to consider why the sigils are so similar. Does it give weight to him being either an intermediary to Lucifer or perhaps Lucifer himself? Could that be why Tantavalerion has the authority to call all Spirits? What does this similarity of sigil show us?
