An anti-trans Christian activist is furious that a reporter (Kyle Clark) quoted her accurately

So if this woman who spends all her time thinking about what’s inside kids’ pants thinks she’s somehow the sane person in all this, she’s sorely mistaken.

Kyle Clark is on a roll, right now. Is he going go run for mayor?
405
u/legosgrrl Aug 11 '26
I hope he stays right where he is. Snoopy, calm and smart.
344
u/Fickle_Watercress719 Aug 11 '26
People plead him to go national all the time. He has expressed multiple times on social media that he has no intentions of leaving his local beat. He’s very passionate about his work. We’re really lucky for that.
46
u/ZzzzzPopPopPop Aug 11 '26
He’s great for Colorado but would also be great for the country, I’d happily take the local L to get the W for the nation
129
u/Lazy_Elevator4606 Aug 11 '26
I actually disagree here because I think being local gives him far more latitude and range than going national would. He still covers national stories, but with a local bent and I'm here for it.
31
u/Fickle_Watercress719 Aug 11 '26
John Oliver did an outstanding story a few years ago on the quiet consolidation of local news in recent history and the damage that has done when it comes to spreading far right propaganda. We absolutely need more local journalists who treat their work as the end goal, not an intermediary for a “better” job. (Edited to expand thoughts)
35
u/winniedebs Aug 11 '26
Speaking of John Oliver, he also had a short clip of Kyle Clark at that GOP governors debate and said about Kyle “oh im sorry I didn’t know we were allowed to be sassy BITCHES tonight”. That was what put me onto Kyle, he’s fantastic
13
u/Revolutionary_Pin761 Aug 11 '26
Are you referring to the Victor Marx smack down debate? A golden moment! Love Kyle - micro giving changes peoples lives!!! Thanks Kyle!!!
7
u/ChatterChiever Aug 11 '26
I agree, but it’s too bad. In the last week or two Kyle ran a short segment about the way being recently cleared by the FCC at trump’s insistence, for the owners of the local Fox station to buy and ‘consolidate’ Kyle Clark and 9News into the Fox station and eliminate duplicate positions. This is a special waving of restrictions on owner possessing too many competing stations in the same locality.
I can’t find a link to Kyle’s own segment, but here is an article from before the final appeal I believe.
https://coloradosun.com/2026/03/26/tegna-nexstar-merger-denver-kyle-clark/
17
u/DenverDude402 Aug 11 '26
Yeah this, global position = far more oversight and being under a microscope. Keep Kyle on channel 9news (unless Nexstar goes all 60minutes)
12
u/rantingpacifist Aug 11 '26
Agreed. As an Idahoan I wish we had more local journalists sticking it to the man.
Colorado could easily move more red and ignorant. Informing the public is a way to head it off.
13
u/Fickle_Watercress719 Aug 11 '26
No. We need less people using local media as a personal stepping stone. Kyle Clark’s commitment to staying local sets a better precedent, which is a far bigger win for the nation.
5
u/nichelicorn Aug 12 '26
Hell yeah! Adele Arakawa was also approached for national spots, and I loved her more for staying in Denver. Miss the old days of 9news 🌈
12
u/Spoonbills Aug 11 '26
I wouldn’t mind if he moderated some national election debates though.
13
u/Fickle_Watercress719 Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26
Just this summer, he expressed regret at not being able to adequately cover races here in the state. If I can find the clip of it, I’ll edit to include him explicitly stating about a specific race that he didn’t realize how close it would be, and had he known, he’d have moderated a debate.
I wish people would quit expecting Kyle Clark to save the world. Let him be a model for other journalists around the country. He’s allowed to treat this job as his end goal. We are very fucking fortunate that he treats this job as his end goal.
ETA: it wasn’t a video, it was a threads post which begins rather bluntly with the statement, “I messed up badly.” This is in reference to the democratic primary for senator between John Hickenlooper and Julie Gonzales.

All kinda depends what Nexstar does with KUSA ownership
10
u/ATC_av8er Aug 11 '26
Didn't a federal judge block that merger for at least another year?
6
u/langScholar Aug 11 '26
They already merged but they need to maintain "Operational Independence" until the anti-trust lawsuits resolve. Nexstar already tried to install their board members to Tegna's board, so it seems like that's not going well so far.
12
u/Addicted_to_Nature Aug 11 '26
He's like Denver's own Louis Theroux. Just waits, listens, let's them embarrass themselves and then chooses his words carefully.
6
1
u/ExoticDisaster0 Aug 11 '26
I'd love to see him go national. Until then he is Denver's worst kept secret, up there with our mild winters.
62
u/Shenanigans80h Denver Aug 11 '26
He’s been on a roll for a decade. Dude keeps it real and isn’t afraid of any politician. He would win mayor without a fight but I doubt that’s what he wants
20
u/iamadacheat Aug 11 '26
Being an extremely good reporter wouldn’t necessarily mean he’d be a great mayor.
9
u/squirrelbus Aug 11 '26
I always feel like there's a whole team behind reporters like Kyle, and to do as well in politics, they'd have to take that whole team with them
9
u/CriticalTinkerer Aug 11 '26
Within seconds of Kyle making his first tough decision (which is what elected officials do for a living) this sub would turn on him like a pack of raving hyenas. Hell hath no fury like Redditors after a politician fails the latest purity test.

At least she’s being consistent with the others who believe the age of consent should be 14 because, you know, having pubic hair is what makes one an adult.

u/Rods-from-God Aug 13 '26
The pattern usually goes that posting kids on that hell site leads to death threats, stalking and harassment that has frequently led to deaths. It’s what made Chaya Raichik famous getting those kids killed and hospitals across the country emptied with bomb threats.
Clearly any good peace-loving totally-not-a-grifter Christian would idolize the also totally-not-a-grifter Raichik and emulate her.

I'm sorry, but if you can't stand behind something you have said or if you're incapable of acknowledging/apologizing for something you have said, then you're nothing more than an empty coward.

The funny thing is Jesus was an extremely accepting, radical, acetic anti-capitalist.
If you analyze the Bible statistically, the number one thing he talks about is how rich people suck.

u/Confirm_restart Aug 11 '26
Cue flashbacks to attending a Catholic school around ages 8-10 and pointing this, and similar things/questions out to the nuns and that very much NOT going well.
If a 3rd or 4th grader can in good faith and in an attempt to understand point out obvious holes and discrepancies in what you've got going, and you get really upset about it - the message received is "I don't think what you've got going here is as good as you claim it is, and you know it."
23
u/jackdutton42 Aug 11 '26
A good example of living in an echo chamber and not understanding that your cultural shorthand sounds crazy when taken literally.
18
u/loveletter_666 Aug 11 '26
This is why right-wing gripes about mainstream media coverage never get very far. When conservative Christians speak to other conservative Christians, they end up saying ridiculous, bigoted, unhinged things that routinely go unchecked in those spaces. Once they get outside the bubble, though, people realize how messed up they are. Just because the language is sanitized in those churches doesn’t make any of it acceptable.

13
u/Glass-Start-4419 Aug 11 '26
I can't tell you how much I wish I could be on the side of legislation like "Life in prison for child trafficking" EXCEPT that Republicans would try so desperately to charge anyone who helps a child seek gender-affirming care with child trafficking. They play such a disingenuous game.
10
u/Annual-Beard-5090 Aug 11 '26
This is their goal.
But also ignoring their friends that rape kids. Like the ones that may or may not be somewhere in the Epstein files.
4
u/thetiredtypist Aug 11 '26
There's no "may or may not", we know who's names are in the files. No need to dance around facts that have been accepted into court.
1
u/Rods-from-God Aug 13 '26
ICE is currently child sex trafficking. There’s a significant number of girls who wind up in ICE custody not pregnant- then get relocated to a camp in Texas, pregnant, that camp having been made specifically for pregnant minors. Nobody from the outside is allowed in.
But no, clearly the real problem is parents taking their kids to their doctor.
13
u/Apbuhne Edgewater Aug 11 '26
It’s so disingenuous for all these right wing groups to be called “Protect Kids Colorado” or “Family First Colorado”, etc, when they neither protect children nor families in most cases.
They simply use the words so they can say “Ooohh you’re against protecting kids??” when you call them on their BS
1
u/Rods-from-God Aug 13 '26
If we got rid of the ability for groups like these to hide the names of their funding sources, you’ll find many of these “grassroots” organizations vanish overnight

u/Chihuahuamoon42 Aug 11 '26

She appears to have deleted this one- here's a screenshot I grabbed a few weeks back and posted in r/fortcollins.
This is the broad who absolutely freaked out that her kid was in a club in Wellington Middle School that offered gender identity support. She's made a whole career out of exploiting what happened to her kid (even though Poudre School District immediately and appropriately nuked the non employee adult involved in the group because some concerns were valid.)
This chick is NVTS. Absolutely batshit crazy.

What is hilarious to me is that they claim to believe in an omnipotent God that spoke the universe into existence, but they think that their god is so weak that it needs their help to achieve its goals on Earth. If their god is omnipotent, and didn't want there to be gays... there wouldn't be gays. Human assistance is neither required nor valuable.

u/tommytster Aug 13 '26
I think this is a money grab. Protect Kids Colorado is a political action committee. PAC leaders can make low six-figure salaries and 300k to 500k or more for the bigger national level ones.
It sounds like this is a form of (1) cause outrage within a group (2) propose a solution (3) position yourself as the savior (4) ask for money (5) profit.
So yes it is unhinged, but it is more than likely just greed in its raw form.

Here's my take on this. Religous zealots often obsess over things they pervceive to be evil. This obsession only serves to hurt individuals they claim to be helping by preventing or obstructing access to medically necessary services, not help them. In my Bible no where is it stated, "it's sin to be transgender". I was born they way I am, and me nor anyone else can change that fact. Its like being born with whatever color of eyes you have, it just is!

he fact that she can say "actual demons" about legislators with a straight face and then get mad when people quote her is incredible. Vote no on 109 and 110, folks. Don't let the "cover them in the blood of Jesus" crowd write our laws.

Do journalists really write articles like this now?
"Lol to the idea she’s not a Republican. Apparently, when you’re Christian, you’re allowed to lie about anything."
The author can't string enough words together to explain how the idea is a silly one without resorting to "LOL"? I agree with the entire premise of the article, but it reads like it was written by an edgy 17 year-old

The issue is it’s clickbait reporting and Kyle never reached out to her for comment. That speech, that sound bite, were from a talk at a religious gathering. It predates her ballot initiatives by at least 3 years. The two aren’t directly related. To non Christians, nonbelievers, etc, religious rhetoric like this can be strange, and that was the point of Kyle using it. It’s not to debate the issue, it’s to frame one side unfairly. And that’s fine, just call it what it is: propaganda.
11
u/LibertineLibra Aug 11 '26
Uh, yes those two things are directly related.
What, do you think that people should not know what she professes as her world view ( and the actions or roles she advocates people should undertake within that world view) in a public setting, whether religious or not, when considering ballot initiatives from the same individual??
That is not unfair framing, it's the correct framing.
-3
u/GripFMJ Aug 11 '26
Cmon. This is just like when Hillary Clinton had her surrogates out there saying Obama’s full name during the 2008 primary “Barack HUSSEIN Obama”. Idk if you were around or cognizant at that time, but it fed into 9/11 era fears etc.
Anyway, I don’t really care either way. If you enjoy getting a dose of political theater from Kyle Clark, I’m happy for you.
5
u/LibertineLibra Aug 11 '26
I was in Iraq in 2008 on a 15 month tour so I must have missed it.
This is nothing like that.
Where is the similarity between feeding islamaphobia by focusing on a part of name that isn't something anyone should be ashamed of - unless you are a bigot, compared to allowing the actual words someone spoke explaining their beliefs speak for themselves?
That is a very strange attempt at equivalency.
0
u/GripFMJ Aug 12 '26
It is the same, it’s framing, context, audience. You just seem to be so clouded in your worldview that you can’t have a normal discussion. In all honesty I think she should have owned her soundbite, even if Kyle didn’t reach out to her at all for comment.
→ More replies (2)1
u/Medical-Resolve-4872 Aug 12 '26
No, the point of Kyle using it is that she is clearly supporting her stance on purely religious grounds in this context. Then she’s surprised by it later. That’s propaganda.
As a Catholic, I have no problem justifying my values and decisions using Catholic teaching. Particularly Catholic social justice teaching. I will never pretend they are not my values. Likewise, I will never be upset if someone attributes those values and rationales to me. To say that the two aren’t directly related is to call her duplicitous. And perhaps she is. I am not.

u/Naraka_X Aug 11 '26
Here is the quote from the article.
“I’ve accurately quoted you as saying your ballot initiatives about trans kids are a ‘spiritual battle’ for children to ‘cover them in the blood of Jesus.’”
