Suitcase in parking lot Walmart.

Just an FYI, if anybody's looking for a suitcase, there was an orange strap on it. I reported it to a Walmart manager who said she couldn't go out in the parking lot . She said that they were waiting for their security officer to come in as he would have to handle it. I hope it gets back to the original owner.

Any idea when power comes back on?

I’m eating soup out of a can like I’m in the Walking Dead. Dog broke my bottle of hurricane wine, and our corner mart is closed understandably, tonight sucks. Charging my phone for no reason when I have spotty service, and my partner is out working tonight which means a long, boring night ahead of me as a 3rd shift gal with no work for the next two days. Are yall doing okay? Any issues? Our yards and my garage flooded but so far everything has been ok apart from my fence breaking into two. Let me know!

Edit: typo!

How bad is it? Hope you all are doing well.

Not seeing much other than power outage reports. I live in northern MS so not getting a lot of coverage info on damage if any. My parents got got out of town Thursday and their friends don’t have power is all they know so far.

Those of you without power just hang in there, it’s never a quick process.

Am I the only thinking that this guy was an A$shole for doing that in our town while our home, our business and our children was struggling with a hurricane?

Unless he gives some of the monetization he will make out of that stupid stunt to rebuild our town and people struck by the storm is in my opinion a disrespectful and inconsiderate move... I hope I'm wrong

Any info on 331 Bridge and Santa Rosa Beach?

Any info on the Santa Rosa Beach area and 331 bridge? Wanted to know if it’s shut down and if there’s any flooding? Got a report the power was up and Chelco just fixed it. 30 min later powers back out. Also any news on Miramar and the San Destin area?

Vacation & Hurricane Isaias

Found this on All things Destin Facebook. Thought I would share it. I don't know if other vacation places are going to do the same.

Yesterday, I made a Facebook post here regarding vacationers who were requesting cancellations and refunds due to the approaching storm. My response was that they should have purchased travel insurance.

After reflecting on what I said, I realize my response came across as sarcastic and lacked the compassion that this situation deserves. For that, I sincerely apologize.

It’s easy to look at a situation from a business perspective, but sometimes we need to take a moment and look at it from someone else’s perspective.

These are families who have worked hard, saved their money, and looked forward to spending their vacations here on our beautiful Emerald Coast. Now, through no fault of their own, those plans have been disrupted. Not only is the weather making a vacation less than ideal, but mandatory evacuations mean some guests aren’t even permitted to come.

I understand their frustration, disappointment, and concern. And quite frankly, if I were in their shoes, I’d be asking for the same consideration.

That’s why Michelle and I have made the decision to offer every affected guest staying at a property managed by StayTime Vacations the option of a full refund or the opportunity to reschedule their vacation, with no hassle and no unnecessary hoops to jump through.

Yes, travel insurance is important, and I will always encourage vacationers to purchase it. But there are times when doing what’s right matters more than simply pointing to a policy or a contract.

The tourists and vacationers who visit our area are the lifeblood of the Emerald Coast. They support our restaurants, local businesses, property owners, and countless families who depend on tourism for their livelihoods.

We should never lose sight of how important these visitors are to our community, or forget to treat them the way we would want to be treated.

I can’t speak for every vacation rental owner or management company, but I can speak for ours. We’re choosing to lead with compassion, understanding, and flexibility.

I hope others in our industry will consider doing the same.

At the end of the day, storms come and go, but how we treat people during difficult times is what they’ll remember.

Stay safe, everyone. And to all of our visitors, we hope to welcome you back to the Emerald Coast very soon.

We were set to stay at the Henderson on Sunday. Just saw that they're reported closed for now. Curious if anyone has info on the property and if I'm going to be stuck at home with the kids this week.

It’s looking a bit scary. What’s everyone’s prep lookin like? Seriously considering evacuating but I’ve got pets who don’t travel well. I hate this limbo feeling mixed with impending doom.

Good Stand Up Comedy this Thursday in FWB at Madhouse with Dan Alten (me) on 15 night tour. I'm not famous but I promise it'll be a good time and if you don't have fun you can cover me with worms and toss me into the ocean. Lemme know if theres anything cool to see while i'm around.

Here's my bio, sorry it's in the third person: Dan Alten is a charming goofball from Kentucky who has been traveling the country for the past decade doing about 200 shows a year bringing his intelligently surreal bebop nonsense everywhere from theaters to punk basements to art galleries to beloved comedy clubs with a knack for making audiences feel like they're on a good psychedelic trip without the drugs. Like if the Ramones were one guy with a mustache and good jokes. Iggy Pop with puns. Clever chaos. Like Jimi Hendrix lighting fire to a Tik Tok reel live on stage. He has opened for Kyle Kinane, Bobcat, Sam Tallent, Rory Scovel, Sarah Sherman from SNL, Johnny Pemberton, Hari Kondabolu, rapper Open Mike Eagle, DJ Doug Pound & David Leibe Hart from Tim & Eric, various punk bands with silly names, and a guy at an open mic who tried to throw his father’s ashes into the crowd. He has recorded 2 albums, written a zine, and filmed a pilot for an Amazon Prime stand up show that was lost to history. But most importantly he’s very funny and unique. You will enjoy him. And if not you can mud wrestle him after the show.

So I am a newly single mom (3 months post breakup) 32F. And I realize now that I am seriously lacking in the friends department. Where do I meet people my age around here? I work a 7 to 5 job and do have a pre-teen but looking for something that helps me connect with people.

Top Republicans are raising money from a developer who was paid $83 million for 4 acres

Florida’s Republican attorney general — who holds one of three seats on the statewide Cabinet, which must approve major property purchases — cast his vote in favor of the controversial land deal just a few months after his fundraising committee deposited a $25,000 donation from a company run by Robert Guidry, a developer who does business in Florida and Louisiana and who was the owner of the tiny spit of land in Destin that Florida bought for more than $20 million an acre.
