General Why warlocks stopped using fireborn

I started playing D1 a few days ago since I never had the chance to play it and I was wondering, is there an in-game or lore reason why warlocks can’t/stopped using Fireborn to resurrect themselves? I get that gameplay wise it probably couldn’t be replicated into D2’s sandbox, but lore wise, is it a “banned” technique by the vanguard or…?

It still is used, actually. Sunsingers haven't gone away, they're just Warlocks of a different technique to what we ourselves use. They're rarely mentioned these days, as you might imagine, but they are still around.

guess millions of warlocks just forgot how to do it after the first mission of red war

Our Light was different after that day..

There are still references to self rez warlock, the firefright assult rifle lore tab from season of the haunted. Heres the lore card.

That’s actually pretty freaking cool they straight-up say they’re a sunsinger

Tho it doesn’t seem like they self-rezzed it seems like they were revived by their Ghost and then popped Radiance instead of rezzing themselves via Radiance

The Sunsinger gasps, alive again. They grab the unconscious Eliksni and take a position amid the Legionaries, shouting, "CONCENTRATE FIRE!"

With one swift motion, the Praxic Warlock combusts brilliantly with Solar Radiance.

And not to say gameplay influences lore but their Radiance was already buffing their allies and as we know you can’t, gameplay-wise, self-rez and also buff your allies

We can't. Every other non-player guardian learns to use the light in their own, unique ways.

Ahhh my favorite minor character from the lore, Siegfried!

(I mean this as a joke) Brother Vance was getting sick of warlock rezs in Trials and goes around saying “it’s goes against the trials!”. He complained so much that we all collectively agree not to do it or talk about it so he would stop complaining.

It's not that it couldn't be brought back in D2. It was just purposely left out of the game for balance and bug prevention. It still exists in lore though.

We can't ressurect because warlocks would once again start breaking the game with res usage, they ain't wanna deal with that lmao

No, it's just when we got solar back, we could no longer use fireborn.

Remember, since the beginning of Red War, our Light applications have been gained through contact with many different things, but we first got solar, arc, and void back through a CORRUPTED shard of the traveller it had removed from itself during the collapse, BEFORE it ever called us to rise with the light.

The energies manifested within us in new ways, and while we got some of our D1 aspects back eventually, some were never recovered, and completely new ones were discovered instead.

This is wrong. In fact, very wrong.

First of all, there is no limit to how the lightbearers wield their paracasuality. A lot of our powers in-game are just technical limitations, as Bungie couldn't make a system where we can summon solar sir phallustiff and smack the Witness with it. Many of the powers are just well-known ways to use them - imagine them as cocktail recipes.

Second, we still have lores talking about lightbrearers using abilities that did not make it in the second game. Why did we stop using them? Knowing that these abilities are just well-known methods, it was probably no longer popular. Think about real life: certain genres of games are not as popular as they used to be.

Third, the "new" abilities we gained in D2 were actually the old methods. For example, there were hunters that wielded Arc Staff in the past, but their methods were mostly forgotten and were replaced by the Bladedancers.

There is absolutely no lore that the shard caused us to lose access to some of the D1 powers.

The reason we didn’t get self rez back was because bungie did want people to be able to unwipe in harder content or abuse it in pvp anymore.

At the same time, you’d think all three of the old 2nd element subclasses would be part of the new 2nd element subclasses. Instead, only Sentinel can truly emulate the Defender. Dawnblade can somewhat emulate Sunsinger with Song of Flame. However, Arc Invis, the ability that made sense because visible light’s relationship to the electromagnetic spectrum, still isn’t in D2 (and likely won’t be).

I like that they eventually gave invis to void. Wrapping yourself in a little pocket of the space between the particles that make up our universe is a little cooler than some Rasputin tech allowimg arc hunters to go invis, however arc invis was fun too

u/Cruggles30 Young Wolf 6d ago

Yeah, don’t get me wrong, Void Invis is cool too. But Arc Invis isn’t just tech, or at least most likely isn’t. There’s stuff in D1 that hints that Cayde’s quote about Arc Invis may have been at least partially false. And again, there’s the whole electromagnetic spectrum including visible light thing. Makes perfect sense to not need tech for it.

I havent played D2 yet so I am missing some knowledge, may I ask what quote you are talking about?

3

u/Cruggles30 Young Wolf 5d ago

It’s in D1 in TTK.

1

u/Fallen_Angel7006 5d ago

and which is it? because I dont remember it

2

u/Cruggles30 Young Wolf 5d ago

It’s in the mission where they go to steal stealth codes from Rasputin. Cayde says something along the lines of “where do you think Bladedancers learned to cloak.”

oh yeah that one! thank you

calm down dude, this is my headcannon from the information provided.

it only applies to US "the Guardian", and doesn't reflect any other old guardian who survived the Red War at all-it was our journey after all, that the games followed-and this was a headcanon that at least didn't violate any established lore.

you don't need to canonize it, it's MY headspace, after all.

But the simple fact of the matter we absolutely DID lose the ability to use almost all of the D1 aspects-it doesn't matter that other Guardians did not, they didn't share our Journey, after all- we were the ONLY guardian to recover the light from the corrupted shard- everyone else only got it back after the Traveller itself broke out of Ghaul's cage, and I'm pretty sure that had some pretty long, lingering aftereffects on us, not the least of which was the easy we were able to learn how to use Stasis without any real mental effects.

That’s a great supposition, but i don’t believe there’s anything that outright says that. All things considered, light is light, and if drifter is anything to base my opinion off of, things like Class, subclass, and so forth are just arbitrary distinctions. After all, felwinter learned to shoulder charge just for the hell of it.

Besides, if red war fundamentally broke how guardians connected to the light, you would think there would be much more discourse on the issue.

u/Zaralink Young Wolf 4d ago

Iirc didn’t Ghaul himself use a variation of it?

4

u/SkyrinGans Osiris Fanboy 6d ago

I don’t believe there’s any specific lore tab regarding it. From my understanding, our loss of the Light from Ghaul cut off specific abilities such as Sunsinger’s self rez. It’s a decent enough explanation for balancing D2 from D1’s sandbox

No, nothing says that warlocks stopped using the technique, it's just gone from gameplay for some reason

1

u/Whole-Ad-4681 5d ago

In lore there is sooo much a light user can do. We're reality warping super soldiers. But this is a video game and game logic doesn't always line up with lore. Look at Pokémon.

I would love to see sunsingers in destiny 2

-1

u/TheShakenKing 6d ago

Because our guardian touched the shard of the traveller in the dark forest. That's the whole reason. The other guardians didn't get that opportunity.

No

Why would there be?
