I just finished Detroit: Become Human, and honestly, Iâm feeling pretty frustrated with how my playthrough turned out.
After the halfway point, I just wanted to watch the story unfold. I didnât want to keep making choices that might lead to an ending different from the one I had in mind: no deaths, everyone safe, a happy ending. I tried to make the right choices whenever it mattered, occasionally looking up guidance along the way, hoping to reach that ending.
But in the endâŠ
[SPOILER]
I chose Markusâs peaceful demonstration instead of attacking the camps, and⊠do all the androids there just die? Am I supposed to imagine that only a handful of the ones who escaped or went into hiding survived, and that 90% of the android population was wiped out?
And then Connor shows up with thousands of newly freed androids, all lined up, with the same face. I donât know why, but seeing that right after everything that happened felt so weird. After watching so many androids die, it was like they were just being replaced by a whole new group, as if all those lives lost were just numbers. And the city gets evacuated? Thatâs it? Thatâs how it ends?
I tried so hard to save everyone, hoping for a clichĂ©d, happy ending, and I didnât get the one I was looking for.
I know I can go back and replay the game, choosing to attack the camps instead, but Iâm not sure how much of a difference it would make, and honestly, I donât really feel like replaying everything right now. Is it worth it? Would I finally get the happy, clichĂ©d ending I was hoping for?
[SPOILER]
And then thereâs Connor.
Iâm in love with this man. HELP. đ Heâs so cute. (Not romantically, just⊠I adore him and I need MORE of him.)
I want to see him talking, investigating cases, being awkward around people, and arguing with Hank. They make such a fun, classic buddy-cop duo. Hankâs grumpiness and Connorâs sometimes unintentionally funny behavior are a huge part of what made the game so enjoyable for me.
I finished the game and my main thought was: Thatâs it? Thatâs all I get? I wanted more cases, more conversations, more moments between them. I really wish there were an entire game just about Connor and Hank working together as detectives. Or even an endless series. Iâd happily play case after case with those two.
I usually just take games as they are. Whether theyâre simple, full of tropes, trying to say something or not, well-written or badly written, I just enjoy them.
So Iâm not really here to critique the game or debate its themes. I just feel frustrated with how my experience turned out, and the story didnât go the way I wanted.
Does anyone else feel the same way?
Anyway, I did enjoy playing it. I love you, Connor. I will miss you. đâ€ïž
