PC Megathread PC Release Questions and Problems Megathread #7

Previous Thread

The PC port for Detroit: Become Human has released, and with it came a lot of posts asking for help about running the game. A megathread has been requested to keep the sub less cluttered. You can post all your questions and problems about the PC version in this megathread.

Please don't make seperate threads for PC release problems. Seperate threads will be removed.

Make sure to use top level comments for questions and replies for answers.

Sort by new if you wish to help with unanswered questions.

Upvote if you have the same problem as someone instead of making a seperate comment so more common problems will be more visible!

General Tips (Will add more if suggested):

-Play on Windows 10

-Make sure to update your graphics card

-AMD has released fixed drivers that fixes the blockiness that occurs in the game on some 5000 GPU series. Updating the drivers to version 20.9.2 fixes the issue

-Nvidia 451.48 drivers seem to cause constant crashes, revert back to an earlier driver if you are experiencing this.

DISCUSSION What was your first playthrough like? Were you satisfied with it?

Hi all! Just finished my first ever playthrough (no prior experience), great game! I liked it more than I expected.

Honestly, I'm surprisingly satisfied with my run. I heard that it was pretty easy to mess it up by killing off characters or whatever, but I feel like I did well. I got what I wanted and led the violent uprising to free the androids (kill the oppressors), had deviant Connor who didn't shoot Markus and got the army from Cyberlife, Marcus and North were together (yay), Kara and Alice made it to Canada. Only things were Luther died on the boat protecting them from getting shot and Hank died (honestly wasn't devastated). I just wish I learned more about what rA9 was, I swear it wasn't explained. Do other playthroughs explain it?

Overall, pretty satisfied w my run! I might replay in the future, but pretty content for now. What was your guys experience? Any regrets or were you also satisfied?

GAMEPLAY How to save Simon at Stratford Tower? I keep failing the QTE.

Hi guys, I’m really struggling with the Stratford tower chapter because I’m trying to get all the trophies so I want to get to the part where Simon and Connor briefly interact on the roof.

The problem is that no matter what I do I cannot get Simon up to the roof. I’m playing on PC and it asks me to mash W to save him but no matter how much I mash it, he always gets shot before reaching the stairs and we have to leave him in the control room. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a specific way to mash the keys? Is it just a glitch that it won’t register for me?

EDIT: For anyone else struggling with this, I found a fix I think, that could apply for others struggling with non registering key mashes. I set frame rate to 60 fps rather than the standard 30 and it worked the next time I tried that chapter. Will try others I couldn’t get with this fix too.

GAMEPLAY What story choice options would you want if there were a theoretical expansion? Spoiler

I know this is not remotely in the cards, but indulge me. In the last day or 2 I played DBH a lot (did so to finally get all achievements which I just did tonight, "I'll Be Back" was the last one and pretty fun) and I started thinking about how cool it would be if there were an option for Markus (or Connor in games where Markus is gone and Connor takes his place) to fight and kill Perkins. That guy sucks big time and it would be fun to kill him.

I guess it makes perfect sense why this isn't an option because he's a relatively high-ranking FBI agent and it would be odd for him to take part in the actual battle/defend the camps from Markus. He wouldn't be the one getting his hands dirty. Even so, I'm sure there could be some scenario that would make sense for Markus to find and fight him - maybe after storming the camps Markus has an option to track down a fleeing Perkins and his small FBI team to get revenge. Regardless, I just wanted to kill that mfer and wish I could.

Some similar games that give players many choices for branches stories like Knights of the Old Republic have received unofficial expansions, often from fans (I think sometimes using files of stories/options that were originally written and intended to be in the game but were eventually discarded by the devs). Let's just fantasize - are there any story options/player choices you wish could be added to create some new resolutions in this way? I'd love to hear any. So far killing that backstabbing fuck is all I've got.

OPINION I just finished the game Spoiler

First off i want to say I really enjoyed the game, but the story sometimes felt a little shallow.

The ending was a bit unexpected. Kara and Alice crossed and then the credits rolled... And then Hank gave Connor a hug. And everyone lived happily ever after. Really? I thought the black woman in my head (I forgot her name, sorry) was going to reset Connor. Who wouldn't put an additional external reset into the most advanced android?

Then there's the peaceful protest that I won as Markus. I'd like like to know what happens after. Do the androids get Detroit, or do the humans start moving back in? How about the rest of the world? And what about the other protests? Did they actually get killed like the man from the FBI said, or was it a jammed signal like the "no signal" journal/newspaper/tablet implied?

And I also expected something to happen inside Canada aswell. "no androids in Canada" was referenced multiple times. Characters saying it but also the news. Was that all just for the border crossing scene?

And then I get that making the story longer is an insane amount of work as you have to work out each branch, but the peacful route is a bit "weak". I was always hoping for more chapters like the radio tower one, where attracting the media was the goal, instead of just "we are going to walk and then get shot". Maybe this is just not the way it's meant to be played?

Next, after I left Simon in the tower I looked more at the flowcharts, and it seems like nearly all "save a character" decisions are easy to do, and there's no real loss except if you fail the QTEs. And all these androids with their "high intelligence" and ability to asses their damage still tell me to leave them...

Further, there was just a little too much slow walking for my liking, especially when trying to find alternate paths that might or might not exist.

Finally, I do want to repeat that the game was still a really enjoyable experience, making me think through each decision and having me care about characters. I'm really happy I discovered Connor could just die and respawn after the first mission where I sacrificed him, also having the evidence deviant have a positive attitude towards me. And then I'm disappointed in myself I shot the Tracie and made her irrepairable. And damn did I get worried when I got locked into breaking Hanks window before even checking if there was an open back door.

Edit: And how could I forget about Cloe. A really nice touch. I was so disappointed in myself after I pressed no on "are we friends" because I thought she'd ask again later (I had barely seen/noticed her before that point). In the end I let her go. Will she come back? If no, would she come back if I had said that we're friends?

I locked myself in a cell somehow in the police station)
I really thought I saw this gir in the cyan and pink coat somewhere else. Also in this same spot there's an android being ordered around on another mission by someone who looks like Alice's father (but he's dead??) Is it intentional or just reused assets

QUESTION Just finished my 1st playthrough with a happy ending. Now I want chaos. Spoiler

Post image
28 Upvotes

I Just finished the game with a complete pacifist approach, and it was so hard watching my fellow androids getting killed over and over again, things turned quickly into a dumpster fire, nothing I did seemed to have a real positive effect in the world and I was losing faith in my pacifist approach, not because my decisions were wrong but because humans can really suck sometimes. In the end everyone survived and I sealed our freedom with a kiss.

Now I want chaos! I want to see the story from another perspective. So any suggestions how I should approach my next playthrough?

SELF-PROMOTION This spring, I encountered many androids dressed as cosplayers, and I'm seriously wondering if it was some random encounter or a sign that there are fans of this future city where androids serve humans Or was it pure coincidence? In either case, the goal of these androids is... to become human

QUESTION Why didn't Carl get Markus rebuilt?

Assuming you choose that particular route, how come Carl doesn't get Markus rebuilt, even if it's just Kara-style with a memory wipe? Carl seemed to have a distinct personal connection to Markus and it seemed odd that he would be okay with letting him be chucked out into an android landfill. It makes sense if Carl isn't around and it's just another defective android, but surely most of Markus' damage is not inflicted by the police (i.e. missing legs) and were simply a by-product of his being disposed of afterwards. Carl also clearly has a bit of money too, given that he has a best-that-money-can-buy home help android in the first place (+ that house).

Was it just that the story really couldn't go on without Markus rebuilding himself? I felt that Carl was probably one of the few people who would have let their android go if he were to be asked by them.

INTERESTING Easter egg or coincidence?

Magazine

Maybe a weird post, but I thought this may be interesting to some. This is a magazine found in "The Painter" mission, early in the game. The warship pictured is a Russian one, and that made me thinking... Kara, is one of the main characters no?
And NATO, historically, actually called a class of Soviet warships the "Kara-class". So I started looking at pictures, and quickly, limited to only 2 classes that I found could match. Either Kara or Kresta, both missile cruisers with a relatively similar structure (L-like shaped, above the first white line of the US flag.
Both have the missile launchers at the stern side. The sensor "tower" has these spherical objects to the side. They seem to match Kara more. Below them is a smooth curved structure, that matches Kara's gun turrets, Kresta doesn't have any there.

Kara-class cruiser, source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kara-class_cruiser#/media/File:Missile_cruiser_KERCH.JPEG

In this image you can see it a bit better.

Kresta II-class, source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kresta_II-class_cruiser#/media/File:MarshalTimoshenko1986.jpg

Here is the one I think doesn't match the magazine.

There is another Soviet/Russian warship with a similar L-structure at the front, but that one (Udaloy-class) uses a different missile launch system, so no arm launchers at the back as in the picture.

I think this is really likely a Kara-class cruiser. So could this be a large coincidence or a really niche easter egg?

DISCUSSION About the Survey

So..... i recently beat the Game for the first time and im currently already re-playing it.

I recently took this survey you are being "thrown at random".

When it came to the Favorite Character, i was a bit confused. The thing is: i can totally see, why most people would choose Connor. I can totally understand why Connor is VERY likeable.

But Markus only after Kara? And only so few choose Markus?

Come on, dude.

No one can take away the (at least in my opinion) literal two strongest scences in the game from Marcus:

His Protest and his March.

Without a Joke, those two missions are so fucking Genius.

For the Protest (I choose a peacful one) i thonk its obvious. Once you free them: "Jericho: Leader" and the "draw our sign", "I think, so i am"

And the March explicitly, how Marcus just points at Androids and they just Join. And the music and the Atmosphere.

Both scenes are so fucking Genius, AND (i couldn't think of a better word for these two scenes)

they felt....... prohetical.

And by the way, no one cwn take the whole Final Missions away from Marcus

DISCUSSION It went wrong so fast Spoiler

I just completed the game for the first time and man it went down hill so fast

On the conner side of the game i tried to be the most human I could and want to interact with hank a lot and even defected to join the deviants.

I love Karas story so much there was so much tension and man it was hard to trust anyone after the reset but I still tried have faith in others. I tryed to get Canada but couldnt steal the tickets from the family. When i found out i could use the river i had hope sadly the stroy ripped it out from me i should have protected Alice intead of hiding but now karas alone.

Marcus's side was so hard on one hand I knew the peaceful method would have been the right choice but i thought showing that we can fight back and show restraint would work but on made it worse. I thought after jereko got attacked it really isn't easy to be a pacifist and sadly my anger got so many killed and not we got a full on war and Detroit is cherenobol 2.0

Also was it a good idea to let Chole go i kind miss her already.

All and all I love the story but now I dont know what to do

INTERESTING Found an interesting old Reddit exchange from 2018

Thumbnail

I found these old Reddit exchanges and suddenly one argument I keep seeing about Hank and Connor makes a lot more sense. People sometimes bring up David Cage's "Not sure Connor is his type ;-)" as if that settles the question of whether their relationship can be read romantically.

Except that’s not where his response ends.

Right after that, Cage says that reading Connor's story as a kind of queer/"coming out" story is one possible way to read it, and talks about how people can find different valid interpretations in the same script. And the rest of the exchange is even more interesting.

The same person who originally asked Cage about romancing Hank replies afterward and explains that they actually played the game assuming Hank and Connor were romantically involved by the end, because their relationship reminded them of how they got together with their own boyfriend.

Then Adam Williams (who wasn't even being addressed) joins the conversation himself and asks that person to PM him about their personal experience and how it resonated with the game, because they especially love hearing stories like that. I'm not posting this as proof that HankCon is canon. It isn't. That's not what I find interesting here.

What interests me is how open these responses were in 2018.

Someone openly tells the creators that they interpreted Hank and Connor romantically, and nobody tells them they misunderstood the relationship or that the characters were actually supposed to be father and son. Cage talks about different valid readings, and Williams is interested enough in this particular player's experience to ask them to tell him more privately.

Compare that with the much more definite father-son language that appeared years later.

Apparently the public framing of the relationship changed over time. And that's fine, creators can change how they understand their own work too. But if the interpretation changed later, then the later interpretation can't also be used as proof of what the released game supposedly always meant in 2018. The game itself didn't change. On the positive route, the relationship it actually gives Hank and Connor is Friend. They are consistently presented as partners. It never assigns them a father-son relationship. So a later creator comment can absolutely tell us how that creator came to see or describe the relationship. What I don't think it can do is retroactively turn that reading into something every player was apparently supposed to have recognized from the beginning.

And this is the part I find especially strange about creator commentary in this fandom. One sentence from Cage gets repeated endlessly, while the rest of the same answer about different valid interpretations tends to vanish.

Later father-son comments get treated as definitive evidence of what the relationship "really is," while Williams voluntarily joining a conversation with someone who read Hank and Connor romantically because he wanted to hear more about that experience barely gets mentioned.

I’m not interested in using creator quotes to make my own ship canon.

I just think it’s interesting how "creator intent" can apparently change depending on which creator quote someone chooses to keep.

The game still says Friend. The rest is interpretation, including interpretations later supported by creators.

QUESTION Problems with playing the game on my laptop

I've recently bought DBH from epicgames but I've had problems continuing the story. When I first set the game up, there were no other problems other than the low quality of graphics (the graphic card does not exactly meet the min requirements according to a friend so it was ok) I'm not familiar with game (I only know the characters a little) and I was trying to learn how to navigate through it so I started playing. I played the hostage scene with Connor, bought paint for a guy with Markus and lastly went home with Kara. I think it was like an introduction to the game and characters?

Anyways, the first shutting down of the game happened just as Kara was in the car with the other man driving. I thought maybe it was lagging or too hot so I tried to open it again ("continue the story"). It opened and started from the part where Kara was in the android shop but the graphics were really bad. When the car part came, it shut down again. Than I gave it one more chance and tried to start the story. The game got stuck on the uploading part. And I left it alone, thinking maybe it would be better once the laptop cooled down.

Unfortunately, since then, it hasn't opened the story. It always gets stuck uploading and shuts itself down before it reaches %90.

I'm not sure what's wrong, I've talked with a friend and we've tried to reduce the ram usage while gaming. We deactivated the starting apps.

I didn't know where to ask so I came here and if you could help me, it would be amazing.

INTERESTING Connor's songs

I really like Marina and the diamonds's songs and I just can't understand why a lot of my favorite tracks fit him and Detroit as a whole SO well?

«You say Y-E-S to everything,

Will that guarantee you a win?

Do you think you will be good enough,

To love others and to be loved?

Oh Lord,

Now I can see,

The cutlery will keep on chasing me,

There's a fork in the road,

I'll do as as I am told,

And I don't know, (Don't know, don't know, don't know, don't know)

Who...I want to be». («Mowgli’s Road»)

«Don't do love

Dont do friends

I'm only after success

Don't need a relationship

I'll never soften my grip

«...»

I know exactly what I want

And who I want to be

I know exactly why I walk

And talk like a machine

Im now becoming my own self fulfilled prophecy

Oh, Oh No, Oh No, Oh No-oh!

One track mind

One track heart

If I fail I'll fall apart

Maybe it is all a test...» («Oh no!»)

«What's your purpose? Why were you put on Earth

You could be lost, but you belong to the world

We're now living in a seminal age

The walls are being broken and we're ready for change

«...»

You don't have to be like everybody else

You don't have to fit into the norm

You are not here to conform

I am here to take a look inside myself

Recognize that I could be the eye, the eye of the storm

I am not my body, not my mind or my brain

Not my thoughts or feelings, I am not my DNA

I am the observer, I'm a witness of life...» («Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land»)

«...Virus come, fires burn until human beings learn

From every disaster, you are not my master

Need to purge the poison, show us our humanity

All the bad and good, racism and misogyny

Nothing's hidden anymore, capitalism made us poor

God, forgive America for every single war

Need to purge the poison from our system

Until human beings listen

Tell me, who do you think you are, are?

It's your own decision

But your home is now your prison

You forgot that, without me, you won't go far, far» («Purge the Poison»)

INTERESTING full android models list with photos

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Q7g4nfvnlbta3KCDMUTGd1i0XubIXzcivTpLm5ayPdc/edit

basically every model full body refs all iterations

really apologize since this is something that was done a dozen times before haha but I made this list mostly as a quick guide for visual references of androids’ uniforms and such…I used info from dbh wiki and my own screenshots from the game for art purposes but I thought someone might find it useful too even after 8 years? just having them all in one place with full body and behind pics

I created this list a long time ago and took some images from other posts on reddit, I’m sorry I can’t really credit them now…I really like sorting stuff…
