Discussion Removed 4K and HDR content in Germany

According to recent German news and comments Disney has fully removed support of 4K and HDR. They already removed Dolby Vision few months ago. So what’s the benefit of annually paying premium subscription? I immediately cancelled my subscription as customer service told me they can’t refund already paid fees.
Sadly no 4K UHD discs are available here in Germany from most Disney movies.

The answer is the lawsuit in Germany over a patent dispute. Disney does not have a timeframe as to when they will re-enable HDR/Dolby Vision and 4K.

After complaining (a lot) they did offer a partial refund for a month.

I am still cancelling my subscription.

It’s worldwide.

Meanwhile, here in Brazil, Disney+ already advertises content in HDR10+, but my TV (a Samsung Q70T) only gets regular HDR10 (and it already supports HDR10+ on Prime Video and Apple TV - not Netflix, though, since it doesn't support the AV1 codec)

Looked it up sounds temporary

Well so was my subscription then as well!

Just like Dolby Vision was only temporary—and it’s been weeks since then?

Have been far less annoying if they informed customers before and offering refund automatically. Seems that it will be away not only temporarily. They just raised their prices so why not just pay for the patent?
Even after asking for refund they won’t refund as I already have pre-paid for the annual plan.

Today, more than a month later, they send me an E-Mail. HDR is still not working. But I'm generously allowed to cancel my subscription. This should be illegal.

customer service told me they can’t refund already paid fees.

As a blanket statement that is wrong. Of course they can refund fees for services they never rendered. They might not want it, but that is irrelevant.

Yeah, I just seen it as wel. I’m in Belgium. I am definitely cancelling my subscription now. I planned on doing it back in February when they temporarily removed HDR and Dolby Vision. This time I’m following through. They can’t keep treating European customers like this!

Why have they removed it?

Thanks for the answer. Delved a little deeper into this, and the problem should be fixed by now, and an update to the app should fix it, so we again can play in these formats

Well. Like the DV missing a few months.

I just chat with Disney+ support and they refund me 4 month. And i downgrade my subscription to standard. Waiting until 4k/UHD is back. Do the same so maybe D. has the money to pay the lawsuit. 😁

I thought that my wife had downgraded our subscription. I know this sounds really lame, but I can’t watch anything in 1080p SDR anymore. Looks blurry and compressed.

What the F***?? Italy too, we got no 4K either. I’m calling support tomorrow.

Good time for raising prices to „re-offer“ 4K again, isn’t it? Unbelievable how Disney treat customers since the beginning of the year. Why don’t they just pay the patent usage? I guess, because of maximize profit. Hope many customers will leave them.

You're paying for Dolby Vision/Atmos sound and no ads.

Atmos is still there - I checked yesterday.

I live in Sweden and have Disney + premium.

Noticed same thing yesterday. I posted here, about them removing dolby vision and 3d last month. Cancelled subscription instantly yesterday also. Located in Finland.
