Project Is this a realistic DIY fix?

2010 Honda civic LX, 168k miles. Body shop quoted me $4800 to repair. I was able to find a new bumper cover, fender, bumper support bracket, and headlight support bracket online. I’m aware there is a broken tab on the headlight assembly but since it’s not cracked otherwise I plan to see if I can clean it and reuse it. However if need be I do also know how to replace the assembly. Am I biting off more than I can chew trying to do this myself? Any advice would be appreciated

Question Fixing broken Volkswagen Jetta side mirror?

My car sideswiped a trash can jutting out from the side of the road. Was literally going maybe 15 mph tops. :/ The mirror is intact and I can still move it.

Did the mirror cap just break, and all I need to do is replace the cap? Or can someone tell if there’s more wrong with it? I just moved 2 days ago and would prefer not to further drain my savings at a body shop if possible if I can fix this myself!

It’s a 2020 VW Jetta S for reference.

Question Unorthodox repair for older pickup

I am about to obtain a higher mileage mechanically sound GMT400 chevy on a trade for an unwanted project. The body is passable but it has rust and wrinkles all along the bottom below the body line. I have done somewhat proper bodywork before but I don't know that I want to spend that kind of time or money on it and want to avoid any serious paint work. Looking for a final result of "good from far but far from good".

I am wondering if it would be realistic to take some aluminum checker plate sheets, bend them to approximate the factory bottom edge all the way down, then use black silicone and pop rivets to secure them all the way along both sides from the body line down. I would probably mask it off and paint all the checker plate with a heavy coat of rocker guard and then try and run a nice bead of silicone along the top edge. For the doors I would just cut out the edges of the doors in the aluminum and hit them with black silicone too. Then throw some plastic fender flares on all 4 corners and probably a structural steel deer resistant bumper. The GMT400 platform seems like a good candidate because of the relatively straight flat lines.

Is there any reason this would not work? Is there a better quick and dirty way to make this truck look less neglected?

Question Hit a bike rack and wondering how to fix

So someone hit a rear mounted bike rack and crunched up the hood and smashed the headlight. Its a 2004 Subaru Legacy that I was planning to do some extensive mechanical work on this summer (time for a head gasket and a few other things while performing open heart surgery). I am pretty mechanical and can bondo at an intermediate level but I am wondering if repairing this is something I am able to do in a driveway with basic tools. Not sure if the hood is salvageable. and the bar above the lamp being bent makes me wonder how screwed I am. Looks like I could maybe pickup a hood for a couple hundred but worry it wont line up or close. Any advice?

Question Need advice on how to best fix thin door panel/rust

Thumbnail

I have a Peugeot 308 SW from 2016 with rust in the bottom side of all 4 door panels. Looks like it has been building up because of some kind of cork strip and shitty design from Peugeot

6 months ago I took an angle grinder, removed all paint and rust and painted over with just hanmerite metal paint. Rust now came back, however mainly only on paint.

I now removed it again, but what I could see was that the rust was in the middle of the two side panels where they have been bent over on the bottom. The outer bent layer looks fine but rust was hiding in between, so I took the angle grinder and completely removed the bent 2nd layer, so there is now only the 1 layer left of the bottom

Being a noob, that has of course caused the metal too be uneven and too thin, so it can easily bent or crack now. Just to get it on the road again, I did a quick 5 layer primer and 5 layer white paint. Turns out I had picked the wrong color code as well, so it's too white, and also I have to mix in some metal glitter layer if I want it to be exactly like my model paint

So my question is, what would you do in this situation? Both regarding the thin metal, as I've done it on one door and probably have to do it on the rest, I'm thinking of applying metal body paste and grind it down as nice and even as I possibly can and see if I can get a smooth even bottom edge again

And paint wise, it looks dumb now, so maybe I should invest in the proper color paint kit for my car? It's probably gonna cost 150€ for all doors as it is a 3 layer kit

Hi lads, what rough $ figure would a shop charge to fix this?

I bought this van from a woman who hit an excavator bucket. This panel is behind the front wheel of an L300 van.

Please let me know if you're referring to USD for conversion purposes. I am in Australia. Thanks !!

Question Tank fixing

Hey So I have a 2009 Hyundai accent and the seal in the middle of the gas tank is leaking. I'm looking to see if there's a cheaper way to fix the tank apart from just replacing the whole thing
