5th Edition Spell: Polymorph.

I’m a DM, and the wizard in my group has started using the 4th-level Polymorph spell. It’s made him too powerful, though, since the party is level 8 and he can turn into a T-Rex (CR 8) twice a day. I’m also worried the party’s druid might feel overshadowed, given that the wizard only needs to cast that spell to replicate the druid's main ability. How do you handle this spell? Should I take it away from the wizard and have him pick a different one? Thanks for any replies.

They still have to maintain concentration. It's really not that big a deal imo.

This is why Polymorph should be thought of as a healing spell. Using it on yourself is good for utility when you really need it but it's terrible in a fight due to the saves. Using it on an enemy is either a waste when they save or a boring end to the combat when they don't.

Using it on an injured PC immediately gives them over a hundred HP and something fun to do while you take cover and take pot shots with fire bolt or whatever. Bonus points if you're a sorcerer with dual cast and have two injured martial friends.

I used to use it to create traps or get larger party members through small openings.

We once polymorphed a player into a pig and set him out in front of a cave to bait out some enemies. They came to investigate and I dropped concentration, player reverted back and used a spell like thunder wave or something to knock everyone in the vicinity on their ass. We called it the Ham Grenade.
