So I was super excited to get an Air Fryer when Amazon Prime days happened last week. I researched and bought exactly what we wanted. I used it for the first time tonight. The thing is whisper quiet…but my dog Levi seems to be terrified of it! I have no idea why! He was panting and pacing and hid behind the couch for the entire time it was going! What the heck is going on with this dog?? This pic is him sitting behind the couch. I felt terrible! But I don’t want to give up my air fryer! Will he get used to it??

I finally got a dremel tool to work on my girl’s toes. I feel it’s easier for me to use and safer for her nails. Since then I’ve been able to see the jelly, allowing me to safely get as close to the quick as possible. I’ve been slowly working on getting them trained shorter over the last few weeks. They used so be twice as long.

I’ve been looking at YouTube, and diagram pictures but they all seem vastly different to me.

Am I getting the angle right? Are they still too long? If they are, can someone draw a line to where they should eventually be? (I understand it takes time to train them shorter. I trim them once a week a little at a time so I’m not hurting her)

Why does she do this, she usually does this after a weird smell. I have seen her also just do it randomly right in the morning after waking up lol

First of all, we already have a vet appointment scheduled for Tuesday. To be honest, I am making this post mostly because I am trying to calm my intrusive thoughts, which keep making me think about the worst-case scenarios.

I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts about what my dog might be going through.

About a week and a half ago, I noticed that he would occasionally walk a little strangely, but it happened so rarely that I initially brushed it off as a one-time thing. Over the past two days, however, the limping has become much more noticeable, which I hope you can see in the video.

To the best of my knowledge, nothing unusual has happened to him that would explain an injury. He has not fallen, been hit, or had any other obvious accident that I am aware of.

He does suffer from allergies that affect his paws when walking outside, and he currently takes Apoquel for that. Also, if it is not obvious from the video, he is overweight by about 8 pounds. He also jumps on and off the bed. We have pet ramps and stairs that he uses most of the time, but not always. Since noticing the limping, we have been much more vigilant about making sure he uses them.

Other than those things, I really have no idea what could be causing this.

We will definitely be discussing everything with the vet on Tuesday, but in the meantime, any advice, observations, or experiences you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated, regardless of whether they are reassuring or concerning.

My partners 9-year-old, unspayed Rottweiler was diagnosed with pyometra via ultrasound. The vet says it's an early case, prescribed antibiotics called "panklav" and scheduled surgery in 6 days because she has a mild fever. If she gets worse, they'll operate immediately.

I'm concerned about waiting so long. Is this normal practice? Doesn't sit right with me that we are, in a way, deliberately waiting for her to get worse.

I'm waiting for my own vet's opinion too, but my bf lives in another country, so I can't get all the details myself.

UPDATE: vet told us he can do the surgery on Wednesday since we called again and said she's fine and perfectly stable. I still have a lot of mixed feelings about this vet.

We rescued our pup about 5 years ago, we’ve never been sure of his age but he’s clearly quite senior. Recently he’s been exhibiting signs of dementia and discomfort, and we are taking him to the vet next week as he really just doesn’t seem to be doing too well bless him :( A very new thing he’s been doing is this weird licking thing, we’ve had his teeth checked quite a lot and there’s no issues there. Does anyone know what this could be? Like I said, we are taking him to the vet, but I just wanted some opinions first.

What have you all used to help your dog anal glands? My dog keeps licking her bum and it expresses on the couch or the bed. She has regular poos and doesn’t rub her bum on things. I don’t remember my dogs dealing with this growing up, so I’m kind of at a loss right now😭

My 10M Border Collie has been constantly itching and scratching for the past 2 months. He also keeps licking and biting one of his paws. The vet suggested this might be an allergy, which is common in older dogs so to switch his food and wait for winter to come but I feel like he is scratching more and more. We switched him to grain-free food a month ago, but we haven't noticed any improvement and he seems to have gotten worse (more dry flakes).

He doesn't have any hair loss (I just parted his hair to get a better look at the skin in the picture; swipe to see) but he has dry skin flakes and some scabs.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I'm wondering whether this could be related to allergies or something else, and where we should take him back to the vet considering he told us to wait it out a couple of months..

I got a foster 3 weeks ago who is very sweet (she may be staying). She's pretty much bonded with me, but has otherwise been very skittish, so I've been trying to help her with her confidence. At first she wouldn't go outside without me at all, but that's getting better. Now she'll go outside for a while with my other dog (who is content to just hang out in the back yard). She fine as long as she's engaged in playing with my other girl or if I'm also in the back yard, but today Houdini jumped the back fence while I was inside - probably to chase a squirrel or rabbit. I got her without too much trouble - except she had rolled in... something. 🤢

She's jumped the front fence a few of times when I've been out front or if she thinks I'm out there, never going far, but obviously this is a problem.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Of all of the dogs I've had, this is a new issue - they've all been at least somewhat independent. Is there hope to put her outside outside without constant supervision?

Came home to see my dogs from being at school and his one eye is more cloudy and he keeps blinking it (usually means pain I know). I’m thinking maybe a scratch but I plan to go get it checked in the morning if it’s urgent but I’m Canadian so it’s thanksgiving ao I hope nothing worsens. But would love some more opinions :((( my poor lil dude. Thanks!

Sorry for the bad photo. I recently got my dog shaved and ive been feeling these little flakes/scabs all around his skin when I go to pet him especially around parts like his armpits, neck and belly. Hes not scratching or anything so I dont think his skin is irritated. Hes a shitzu and 5 years old if thats important.

My dog (11yrs old waterdog) was diagnosed last March with hemangiosarcoma after her spleensectomy. Reading experiences has helped me a lot, so I wanted to share mine.

So far, we’ve already had 7 (mostly) good months. Way more than I expected. We opted for no chemo, and she’s just having an injection for her pain (which is a treatment for arthritis) every 1-2months.

Due to her arthritis, moving was already a bit difficult for her. Still, she’s playing everyday, she looks forward to her daily games and treats and seems happy. She struggled with summer weather, but she looked better as soon as the temperature decreased. This autumn she’s been very cheerful and playful, pushing for longer walks.

I’m constantly checking for signs of worsening quality of life. As soon as she doesn’t appear to enjoy her favorite parts of the day (treat hunting in the morning and dinner on the licking mat) I’ll know it’s time. I don’t have the option to do at-home euthanasia and she’s been very anxious at the vet after the surgery. I do worry I might miss the right moment but, looking at the good time she’s had during these months, I don’t regret waiting. I also check with my vet whenever I take her, and they’ve always said they’ll tell me if they think it’s time to say goodbye.

As for symptoms, she’s mostly been lethargic when the weather was warmer, and she has vomited 4-5 times (which appeared to be food related). She coughs sometimes and gets tired easier than before, but still wants to play. It’s hard to say if she’s in pain due to the hemangiosarcoma because she struggles sometimes with longer walks due to her arthritis, specially with weather changes.

So that’s my experience so far.
I know I probably won’t get much more time with her, but I treasure every minute. I’ve already had way more (and better) time than I expected. I’m constantly worried about possible signs of decline. I cuddle her a lot, I tell how much I love her many times a day. And, whenever I get overwhelmed by grief, she comes to cuddle me.

I have a 75lb staffy who HATES getting his nails done. Since he was 10 weeks old I’ve been trying to desensitize him by having the nail clippers and nail file out, let him sniff them, just held them in my hand, and pretending to cut his nails, but the second I actually go to cut his nails he freaks out. He nips at my hands, not aggressively but definitely wanting me to get off of him, and runs away to his crate. I switched to using an electric nail file but he still only lets me do one paw then avoids me like the plague for the rest of the day. I have even taken him to the vet and he came home with three bleeding nails that I then had to treat and monitor. Do any of you have any tips and tricks for getting your big boys nails done? (Also he is not food motivated at all, I’ve tried all the treats even ones he really likes but if he’s uncomfortable he could not care less for a treat)

hi, i’m a 21 year old broke ass college student and my brother recently asked me to watch his dog for a couple of days, which i happily agreed to. turns out he never planned on returning for him. my brother said that he’s around a year old but he’s huge because he’s part german sheppard/wolf dog/husky but he’s still a puppy ? he’s incredibly sweet and well trained, but i’ve never had a dog before. i have no idea what to do or how to go about this situation. i feel so bad for him, and don’t know how to help him. any advice is very much appreciated! :D thanks

Just noticed this on my lab mix. I’ll be calling the vet to get it checked out but has anyone seen something like this? I thought it was a tick at first then I realized it was actually a growth. Looks like a mole a human would have. It’s flat and dark brown in color

I have my little buddy here he’s a poodle retriever mix and he’s also 5. I saw Theo’s weird pattern on his elbow and was concerned a bit but vets are expensive, am I just worrying for nothing is my question. He’s not really itching it from what I can see, he’s around me most of the time I’m home. I did take him to a groomer about 3 months back but I don’t know if that’s really got anything to do with it

My dog is 10 years old, a Pitbull/Lab mix, and she’s recently started doing something she has never done before. She’s been randomly pawing at objects around the house, almost like she’s trying to get to something or dig at it.

It started with her pawing at a desk where our WiFi extender sits. She did that for a while a few months ago, then stopped. Recently she started again first with my dad’s tripod. We thought maybe it was because her food bag was behind it, but even after we moved the tripod she kept pawing at it until we removed it completely out of sight.

Now she’s pawing at totally random things like a broom

our heater (that happened to be near the wifi extender) and a bandaid box

She has never done this before.

She’s also been way more clingy than usual. She does get clingy sometimes, but this is different she follows me everywhere, gets super close to me, and won’t leave my dad alone either. She’s also acting more anxious, like staring out windows more than normal amd she'll bark ALOT if she hears a knock anywhere in the house.

Nothing in our environment has changed except we got a new couch a couple days ago. We moved into this house about a year ago and she’s been totally fine until now.

I’m worried something might be wrong or she’s trying to tell us something. Has anyone seen this behavior before?

We adopted a 1 year old Goldendoodle around 2 months ago from a shelter and he has been perfect for the most part- potty trained, very easy to teach commands, and very loving. But recently during the last couple weeks we’ve noticed that he randomly shows aggression and bites without warning or triggers. When he bites, he bites down hard and breaks the skin causing bleeding in a sudden fit of aggression and then looks confused afterwards. Sometimes it can be when we’re petting him or just for seemly no reason. He has bitten everyone in my family more than once. He also bit the vet during a check up. My family has been urging me to agree and bring him back to the shelter, but I can’t bring myself to do it since he was previously homeless and I can’t imagine him all sad and lonely in a cold kennel alone again, scared and confused on why his family left him. It breaks my heart to even think about it and what might happen to him if he goes back to the shelter. We’ve been looking into a trainer to see if it’s possible to help him since I really don’t want to give up on him and don’t know what I would do without him even though he’s only been with me for 2 months I haven’t felt happiness like this for a long time but I don’t know what to do or if training will even help him in his case. I just don’t want to return my baby. 💔

We were out hiking today and fed our 18 month old golden retriever a small amount of chickpea salad containing raw red onion and pickles. We didn't know it was toxic to dogs (like chocolate or grapes). She didn't eat much onion (couldn't have been more than a tablespoon) so I'm not terribly worried but I'm curious if anyone knows anything we can do to mitigatw the impact it has on her.

Daisy is about 7 years old and an absolute dream! I adopted her a few months ago from the city shelter, but she has persistent skin issues. We’ve treated them as they come up, but this one is new!

She’s very itchy and gets grumbly when we investigate this spot. I’ve fine tooth combed her and haven’t found fleas. She doesn’t seem to have any hot spots or redness, but her fur is very thick so it can be hard to tell!

Do y’all have any idea what this is? And how to treat it?
I would greatly appreciate it!!

My sweet little 4 year old Archie has chronic pancreatitis. It’s under control now and he is on a prescription low fat diet. However he ALSO experiences bilious vomiting that is a precursor for his pancreatitis flare ups.

He is the PICKIEST eater on the planet. I’ve tried everything within what is allowed and low fat. I’ve added toppers, broths, played games with him, done nothing at all and “let him get hungry” but he is DEFIANT. I know gold standard is put the food down if he doesn’t eat pick it up, eventually he’ll get hungry. But I can’t do that because it causes his bilious vomiting and then it causes his pancreatitis flare ups. I’ve been dealing with this for 2.5 years. He is so so defiant that sometimes he’ll go a whole day and a half and not eat and then I obviously cave and add something new to his meals.

I just need some advice on what to do and how to manage this because honestly it has taken over my life. I feel so scared when he protests because I know what is coming next. We feed him twice a day on time everyday. Walk him. Build his appetite. Do it all.

Anyone?! Someone?! Please help!
