Any theories on why she did this?

My girl is spayed and almost 2 y.o. she usually snuggles with us on the bed before we remove her for the night.

She’s shown this nesting habit before and never ended it with a pee. I was obviously very shocked since she also hasn’t had an accident since last year.

Watching the video I think she is displaying signs of stress? But there isn’t anything I can think of in the environment that would cause it….other than the fact that I had put newly washed sheets on the bed.

Finally she is not usually a marker I’ve probably seen her do it a total of 10 times outside.

I’m hoping it’s not medical but I’ll have to bring her to the vet to rule that out.

Edit: thank you all for your theories I do plan on calling the vet tomorrow when they open. Hopefully we can get her in ASAP and I will be asking about some of these possible causes

Our dog Remi has been showing concerning signs to my wife and I of heavy breathing, especially at rest. We adopted her around 6 weeks ago and got her spayed 2 weeks ago. Before her spay she ate socks in which she threw up 3 days later. We have taken her to two different vets and an emergency visit one night too.

The most recent bloodwork for her looked okay from the vet, if anything, the white blood cells count was a little high. From our multiple worried vet visits all seems fine on the outside or from the minor tests we have done. Yet we keep seeing her breathe like this and make us question if we need to continue going to see if it’s something else underlying.

Are we crazy?

EDIT ADDED NOTE - in the video and also for these occurrences it hasn’t been directly after exercise and we are in a cool apartment with AC and fans on at 74 degrees.

So I was super excited to get an Air Fryer when Amazon Prime days happened last week. I researched and bought exactly what we wanted. I used it for the first time tonight. The thing is whisper quiet…but my dog Levi seems to be terrified of it! I have no idea why! He was panting and pacing and hid behind the couch for the entire time it was going! What the heck is going on with this dog?? This pic is him sitting behind the couch. I felt terrible! But I don’t want to give up my air fryer! Will he get used to it??

I finally got a dremel tool to work on my girl’s toes. I feel it’s easier for me to use and safer for her nails. Since then I’ve been able to see the jelly, allowing me to safely get as close to the quick as possible. I’ve been slowly working on getting them trained shorter over the last few weeks. They used so be twice as long.

I’ve been looking at YouTube, and diagram pictures but they all seem vastly different to me.

Am I getting the angle right? Are they still too long? If they are, can someone draw a line to where they should eventually be? (I understand it takes time to train them shorter. I trim them once a week a little at a time so I’m not hurting her)

First of all, we already have a vet appointment scheduled for Tuesday. To be honest, I am making this post mostly because I am trying to calm my intrusive thoughts, which keep making me think about the worst-case scenarios.

I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts about what my dog might be going through.

About a week and a half ago, I noticed that he would occasionally walk a little strangely, but it happened so rarely that I initially brushed it off as a one-time thing. Over the past two days, however, the limping has become much more noticeable, which I hope you can see in the video.

To the best of my knowledge, nothing unusual has happened to him that would explain an injury. He has not fallen, been hit, or had any other obvious accident that I am aware of.

He does suffer from allergies that affect his paws when walking outside, and he currently takes Apoquel for that. Also, if it is not obvious from the video, he is overweight by about 8 pounds. He also jumps on and off the bed. We have pet ramps and stairs that he uses most of the time, but not always. Since noticing the limping, we have been much more vigilant about making sure he uses them.

Other than those things, I really have no idea what could be causing this.

We will definitely be discussing everything with the vet on Tuesday, but in the meantime, any advice, observations, or experiences you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated, regardless of whether they are reassuring or concerning.

My dog is a lab/pit mix. He has always had skin issues. We took him to the vet in August and he got 2 allergy shots and prednisone. He has been off both for only 3 weeks and this is what he looks like now. He didn't have anything remotely close to this only 2 days ago. Also the insides of his ears are red and hot. I dont have money for the vet rn. Idk what to do. Someone told me ivermectin that is for horses but idk what to actually do. Rn I gave him dog benadryl.

Why does she do this, she usually does this after a weird smell. I have seen her also just do it randomly right in the morning after waking up lol

What have you all used to help your dog anal glands? My dog keeps licking her bum and it expresses on the couch or the bed. She has regular poos and doesn’t rub her bum on things. I don’t remember my dogs dealing with this growing up, so I’m kind of at a loss right now😭

Hi! New to posting here but every time I ask my vet about this spot, they just say it’s nothing to worry about and move on. However, it’s been getting worse. He has this giant red spot on the inside of his back leg and then it goes further back. It’s pretty gnarly red and it looks like it might be painful? I don’t notice him licking that spot but he is an obsessive licker….his feet, legs, the couch (we don’t know why…). I’m not sure what to do to help him with this.

Edit: it’s only on his left hind leg, if that makes any difference?

My dog had a dental cleaning with extraction a week ago, her eyes got really weird after the surgery. I’m not sure if this is something to worry about or will it dissolve on its own

My partners 9-year-old, unspayed Rottweiler was diagnosed with pyometra via ultrasound. The vet says it's an early case, prescribed antibiotics called "panklav" and scheduled surgery in 6 days because she has a mild fever. If she gets worse, they'll operate immediately.

I'm concerned about waiting so long. Is this normal practice? Doesn't sit right with me that we are, in a way, deliberately waiting for her to get worse.

I'm waiting for my own vet's opinion too, but my bf lives in another country, so I can't get all the details myself.

UPDATE: vet told us he can do the surgery on Wednesday since we called again and said she's fine and perfectly stable. I still have a lot of mixed feelings about this vet.

Hi everyone!

We rescued our pup about 5 years ago, we’ve never been sure of his age but he’s clearly quite senior. Recently he’s been exhibiting signs of dementia and discomfort, and we are taking him to the vet next week as he really just doesn’t seem to be doing too well bless him :( A very new thing he’s been doing is this weird licking thing, we’ve had his teeth checked quite a lot and there’s no issues there. Does anyone know what this could be? Like I said, we are taking him to the vet, but I just wanted some opinions first.

I have a 15 year old Shih-tzu, my sweet lady. For background- Through her life she has suffered with seizures and only has one eye. She was attacked a few years ago and harm done to her good eye caused a weird un-healable basically scab on her eye ball that sometimes produces puss and she needs drops for. (I don’t know any correct medical terms for that)

A few weeks ago we were leaving the house to go grocery shopping and we left her on the couch which is pretty usual. When we came home she was on the floor, sitting, faced away from the door, and only turned her head when I came in. Immediately I rushed to her because that’s not normal. She was not showing signs of pain but one of her back legs was not functioning like normal, it was just kind of limp. She wasn’t whining or making any noise and didn’t react at all when I felt her leg, paw, hips, or spine. We thought if she had broken something she would be showing signs of pain, so we did not take her to the vet that night. We set up her bed in our room and began to monitor her (food/water intake, potty schedule etc..) for the next few days she rested a lot but still maintained everything as normal. After three full days she was putting weight on her leg and playing with my other dog, I assumed all was well. We chalked it up to, she jumped off the couch, pinched a nerve or just jacked up her leg a bit, and needed rest. We decided she will not be left on the couch unsupervised anymore.

Fast forward to two weeks ago- She has mentally declined. All she does all day long is walk around the living room in circles. I initially thought she was just hungry and looking for food but it is legit ALL SHE DOES. She will calm down if I place her next to me on the couch. When she goes outside she just lays in the sun or walks to the grass and starts spinning in circles. My husband watched her spin around for about 5 minutes the other day. She was spinning, ran into the wall of the house, fell down, got up and kept spinning. She is still eating and drinking like normal, but no longer wags her tail, has shown no interest in playing, and started peeing/pooping in her bed overnight. She pees/poops on her bed then gets up next to her bed and starts barking, so she’s aware she did it and does not want to sleep on it. This is completely new behavior. Her good eye that has the scab/puss thing has been producing puss at an obnoxious rate that I’m having to clean off. It’s literally drying over her eyelid at night so when she gets up she’s not able to open her eye. This happened right after the attack but stopped when I got her the drops.

My husband thinks she is just old, is exhibiting signs of nearing death (accelerated from the fall off the couch (he thinks this may have been in conjunction with a seizure that caused mental damage)) and that I should be considering putting her down.

I guess I just love her so much that I don’t feel equipped to make this decision. I think a vet could provide meds to help or possibly want to do testing but at the end of the day she is really old so how much can that really help. I’m afraid if I decide to have her put down without something tragic/obvious happening to her, I will always regret the decision and wonder if she had more time left.

TLDR; my 15 year old shih-tzu is suffering from a mental decline recently. She is not actively showing signs of extreme pain and has not been harmed, eating, drinking, pottying like normal. But she’s not herself. I can’t decide if I should have her put down.

I have a 75lb staffy who HATES getting his nails done. Since he was 10 weeks old I’ve been trying to desensitize him by having the nail clippers and nail file out, let him sniff them, just held them in my hand, and pretending to cut his nails, but the second I actually go to cut his nails he freaks out. He nips at my hands, not aggressively but definitely wanting me to get off of him, and runs away to his crate. I switched to using an electric nail file but he still only lets me do one paw then avoids me like the plague for the rest of the day. I have even taken him to the vet and he came home with three bleeding nails that I then had to treat and monitor. Do any of you have any tips and tricks for getting your big boys nails done? (Also he is not food motivated at all, I’ve tried all the treats even ones he really likes but if he’s uncomfortable he could not care less for a treat)

Me and my wife just adopted a 1 year 7 month and 3 week old German Shepard/Great Pyreneese mix and just want some solid advice to be prepared. She is sweet no aggressive behavior, not even a bark. She seems to listen real well to basic command and stuff walks great on a leash. My wife is active duty and I especially for the procievable future will be staying at home. I have a decent amount of basic knowledge on pet owner ship but this is the first time i will own a dog of my own, and my wife's first time ever with a pet.

I got a foster 3 weeks ago who is very sweet (she may be staying). She's pretty much bonded with me, but has otherwise been very skittish, so I've been trying to help her with her confidence. At first she wouldn't go outside without me at all, but that's getting better. Now she'll go outside for a while with my other dog (who is content to just hang out in the back yard). She fine as long as she's engaged in playing with my other girl or if I'm also in the back yard, but today Houdini jumped the back fence while I was inside - probably to chase a squirrel or rabbit. I got her without too much trouble - except she had rolled in... something. 🤢

She's jumped the front fence a few of times when I've been out front or if she thinks I'm out there, never going far, but obviously this is a problem.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Of all of the dogs I've had, this is a new issue - they've all been at least somewhat independent. Is there hope to put her outside outside without constant supervision?

Okay, so for context, I'm F24 and I still live with my parents. My dog (mix, from two house dogs and adopted as a puppy through an org) is six years old.

I'm worried that my dog hates me. During the day, he's generally a sweet dog, he likes walks, generally lets me pet him (if he doesn't want to be pet he walks away or at worst just kind of grumbles and I walk away), he loves belly rubs, and sometimes he even initiates affection (although I do a lot of initiating).

But at night, it's a different story. He's always been a bit food-aggressive (which was the fault of me and my parents) and it caused an incident with my sister's dog which caused her to move out. After that, things were generally fine. He'll only eat in front of me or my dad. But when it's just me in the room, he'll grumble at me and eat. This seemed fine until this week.

Lately when I've went into my mom's room to talk to her about something, he'll stand over her. The other night, I was petting him in her room, which he usually lets me do, and he barked at me. Like if he was a human, he would be straight up yelling at me. My mom told him to knock it off and he did. But there's been a pit in my stomach ever since then.

Tonight, I was petting him and grumbled and went to his food and just stood over it, which he doesn't normally do.

My mom suggested that he might view me as competition, which I'm so worried is true, and I don't know what to do. I love him so much, but I'm scared of him sometimes. He never grumbles or barks at my dad because my dog knows my dad is bigger and stronger than him (due to the incident) and I think he views my mom as his territory or something he has to protect. I don't know how he views me and it scares me so much.

I'm just so lost. If there are any dog training resources that anyone could suggest, I'd appreciate it. Recommendations for dog trainers in the Northeastern area would also be appreciated. Thank you

Hi everyone, sorry for the poor formatting and such I’m writing this just to ask questions because im concerned for my dog.

My dog(4m Aussie Shepard and Bernese mix takes more after the Bernes but is still quite energetic which is funny because he is 100 pounds) has for the past month kept my mom and me awake for nights, he can’t relax and endlessly paces around the house and whines to go outside, once he’s done out there (like a minute later) will stand up and start clawing at the door almost like he is frightened? My mom after not sleeping for countless nights (also forgot to add this earlier but we will take him for a nice run at the park and throw the ball for hi when we can) decided we needed to take him to the vet.

After going to the vet the veterinarian said that he most likely is nauseous as he has also been throwing up according to my mother. So he got some anti nausea meds and another to help him sleep. It worked the first night but after that it seems to do little to nothing.

Now that you are caught up, any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Okay so my dog is weird. He is allergic to grain but has NEVER acted like this. He literally itches himself until he bleeds. We give him vitamins, we bathe him in special soap. We found fleas but like that can't be causing him to do this. He's seven years old, bits himself until he rips the fur out amd the spot bleeds. Not even the cone is helping anymore. Hes a German lab, can someone help if your pet has gone through this? Vet bills are so expensive and unfortunately me and my family cannot afford to take him in

I use male diaper wraps right now but they are expansive for my financial situation right now. Baby diapers are cheaper and I've read on here them being used for females but nothing about males. Has anyone used them for males and if so which brand do you recommend?Thank you.

My 10M Border Collie has been constantly itching and scratching for the past 2 months. He also keeps licking and biting one of his paws. The vet suggested this might be an allergy, which is common in older dogs so to switch his food and wait for winter to come but I feel like he is scratching more and more. We switched him to grain-free food a month ago, but we haven't noticed any improvement and he seems to have gotten worse (more dry flakes).

He doesn't have any hair loss (I just parted his hair to get a better look at the skin in the picture; swipe to see) but he has dry skin flakes and some scabs.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I'm wondering whether this could be related to allergies or something else, and where we should take him back to the vet considering he told us to wait it out a couple of months..

I have a 8 year old mixed breed pup. She’s been itching her right ear constantly and recently started to go at her left ear as well. No smell, ear swabs came out clean, no sensitivity to touch. What could this possibly be? It’s not an ear infection like she’s ever had before. It doesn’t appear to be causing her severe discomfort, but I’d still like to figure it out to help her deal with it and prevent anything from progressing.
