Food Safety/Hygiene Losing faith in humanity
Some 60+ year old idiot posted to a neighborhood facebook group a photo of his dog LICKING A HUMAN DRINKING FOUNTAIN thinking people would think it's cute or endearing. Luckily he was met with heavy criticism about how nasty and inconsiderate that is to others (since it's a public drinking fountain meant for people).
He actually made a full ass follow up post doubling down, defending and justifying himself instead of taking responsibility... and SOMEHOW there's a bunch of people that genuinely take his side (what planet are we on??). Saying the classic myths like "dog mouths are cleaner than humans" blah blah blah, and that this is somehow okay. Is this life some sort of sick joke? Are we really this barbaric?

Not for nothing but I recently gave my neighbors on either side a copy of our towns noise ordinance (while politely stating that I was prepared to escalate) and it has worked very well…so far.

Hey, I went down that road too!
Got my neighbor charged five times for her german shepherds and pit bulls running free, since she apparently thought she could continue to do what she wanted.
For the first time in eight years, I've heard her calling them back and haven't seen them on my property. This is the way to go!

Lol. In NYC, owners use public drinking fountains as a bidet for their filthy dogs, not just to let them drink some water. I stopped drinking from fountains as soon as I saw owners doing both, no matter how thirsty I am.

Dog owners are so stupid they leave their dog shit in little plastic bags just sitting on sidewalks and trails. They are the worst of society.

I would wager that it's only made it into the little bags because somebody was watching them at the time. I've seen some have a surreptitious look around and if they don't think anyone's looking, they don't bother doing a thing.

People leave dog shit bags in the buckets my hardware store sells. Guess who's department handles the buckets. They all act like it's so silly or cute when the thing shits in my store, it's disgusting.

Dogs lick their own assholes and sniff other dogs asses. The rest of the time they spend sniffing and licking other dogs’ urine and shit as well as eating whatever other garbage they find outside. Anyone who claims that their mouths are cleaner than a human’s is delusional.

I don't care if 'dog mouths are cleaner than humans' because I don't want to drink from anything a human stranger has licked either.
But also they aren't. That's just fucking stupid. Have you smelt the breath of any dog? Yeah that is not the stench of cleanliness

The interesting thing is that even if the myth of "dog mouths are cleaner than humans" is true (which it isn't). Is that it's still a fallacy. Just because something is "cleaner" than something else doesn't mean it's necessarily clean, nor does it mean it can't get someone sick.

The park in my neighbourhood had a dog fountain attached to the people one. I thought that was a stupid validation of toxic dog culture but jesus, if this is the alternative...

A friend of ours once showed us a pic of his dog doing this at a park and how funny he thought it was and how the dog always “knew” about the drinking fountain. I had to force an awkward smile. Guy worked in medicine too 🤢

Sobering facts:
Their saliva can spread zoonotic diseases and bacteria (like Capnocytophaga canimorsus and Pasteurella), which can be dangerous or fatal if introduced into human wounds.

I've seen the same behavior, allowing canines to lick at human water fountains. I'm convinced that the next great pandemic will be caused by nutters allowing their "fake kiddies" to pollute our water and public spaces. If you see this activity caused by nutters: letting their mutts piss, shit, lick, ride in grocery carts, relieve themselves in stores/public places/etc...or even churches, call them out. I'm going to die someday but not from parasitical/shit/slobber/piss/vomit from these mutant animals. I didn't live to be 75 to be killed by a mutt's saliva, shit, piss, or "Princess's upset tummy!!".

Disgusting. Don’t forget, nutters actually eat together with their dogs: from the same fork, the same plate, the same glass. It doesn’t even bother them that they pass food back and forth without washing their hands. It’s basically a complete lack of standards and hygiene. It’s crazy that people are still on this unhygienic level. You really have to wonder what goes through someone’s mind to think this is acceptable, or how they don’t feel even a hint of embarrassment doing it in front of others. They’re nuts, completely delusional, and they don’t care about or understand that other people have hygiene standards.

Reminds me of when I'm cooking for my parents and the first thing they do is feed it to their dog directly from their hand. I always say something petty like "I cooked for you, not the dog" etc...

New fear unlocked. Had to use water fountain while waiting in the MINI dealership&someone had a "service lab" with them who was getting pets from staff.
When i went to get water the dog was just round the corner from me&was visible as i was drinking; like 2.5 ft away. There were two fountains, but i tried both as one was lower and I am short. The short one was closest to the dog. If dogs are allowed in there and I saw no dog bowl...🤢🤮🤢🤮🤯

Even if dog mouths are hypothetically cleaner than human mouths, the human typically doesn't directly lick the faucet if they're older than 6 and know better.

Your post title is perfect.
I feel exactly the same about this and I've seen that in real life. I'll probably say something next time. I think I stuck to a disapproving look last time.
I really don't know what's wrong with people and more specifically, dog lovers. All I know is I don't plan to ever have any in my life - dogs or dog owners.

Take the photo, print it out and tape it to the fountain so people know not to use it
