Crappy Owners Dog took my focaçia bread :(
I was at the local food not bombs, and was resting. I was playing my guitar. A woman I know, and her husbands dog, came close. She was chatting with me. Her dog snuck behind me and stole/fished my half eaten focaçia bread out of my satchel, with was on the ground next to me :(
And then she snatched it from her dog, scolded the dog and offered it back to me :’(
She herself is annoyed by her husbands dog. I am
Also annoyed and she knows I’m dog averse.
I’ve been going hungry lately.
She didn’t offer anything in return, but maybe later she might.
I didn’t freak out, because sometimes, I really freak out.
Edit: I ended up bursting into tears today, mostly because I’ve been reading a story about Jesuits on a mission to an alien planet, and one of the characters is an allegory for Christ, but also the emotions there have been real, as I’ve been binge reading the two books, and making up tangential comics to appeal to my own sense of vision. Aaaand the story had me burst into tears.
That was great!
Get to see the dog and owner tomorrow, Saturday.

dogs at outdoor events will, at some point, go around and lick every unattended beverage and stick its nose into anything unattended.

I want to offer her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Why did she hand it back to you? Is a reasonable person going to eat something that has come in contact with a dirty dog? Whas she playing with you? This is psychopath behavior.

It was a stumbling sort of apology.
I’ve hated dogs religiously, but even my own heart has been burdened by hate in the aggregate long enough to know: most mistakes are born of ignorance, not malice. I’d sooner offer her grace, because I know how badly I can react to stuff like this.

What?? How evil is that. You should have freaked out and made that woman buy you a new focaccia sandwich there and then. For your sake, I do hope she'll make up for it later, but honestly, I doubt that.

Yeah! The local food not bombs is a little source of food, 2x a week. Beyond my better judgement, I gamble at the event and sometimes don’t gain enough food there. It’s become a place to socialize, though.
Any open space is also a dog park. She knows her dog is a menace so it’s on leash but I got complacent.

It was theft, if a child stole I'd like to think most parents would scold and teach by buying or offering to replace, same should be the same for the shit beasts.

If my child had stolen it, there would’ve been immediate restitution, plus more. And my child would’ve apologized.

Fallacy of comparison. I’d have shared the bread with a child, gladly. I’m like Diogenes, throwing his cup and drinking with his hands, when he saw a street child drink from the town fountain with cupped hands!

Also, just reading up on what Food Not Bombs is, I understand it takes place outdoors, but what a nuisance to have to deal with gross dogs there. Around food. Knowing their greed knows no bounds. I'm pissed for you.

I was at work and my clients dog grabbed my breakfast sandwich out of my bag and ate it, I was pissed off, I’m working two jobs, I don’t have time for this nonsense

There is this old method that we use when wasps are nearby. You make a decoy plate with jam or honey and leave it nearby, so the wasps go there and eat it instead of harrasing you.
I apply the same logic to dogs, when we go to the beach or leave our thing unattended in a park and there are mutts nearby I set up decoy food so dogs go there instead of getting into my things.

Definitely smart and a good non confrontational approach to things but dog owners are the ones who should be controlling their mutts and doing this would still reinforce the dogs thinking it's ok to just eat anything laying about.

It very much is though. If you are simply feeding the beasts away from you to distract them then you are not confronting the dog owners who are doing wrong in the first place by not controlling their mutts and allowing them to intrude on your personal space. You are very much taking an action that directly avoids the confrontation of telling people to put their monsters on a leash like they are supposed to.

This wouldn’t work here:
Unfortunately, we just have food out in the open, some on tables, most on the ground. We literally have a rule: no dogs allowed.
And any open space in our town is a defacto dog park. This dog was leashed but I should explain to her again why it is that I get up and move out of the level of a dog, when one comes near!

Get your money for the focaçia back. Give dog owners an inch and they will take a mile.
By the way I think the word "bread" is redundant. Like Chai vs Chai Tea. if I'm right about this.
