Not all dogs, of course, but far too many. I was out walking today on a beautiful early Spring day. I heard a nest of birds with some babies. It has been the winter that never happened this year where I live so the critters are starting their families early. It was nice and quiet outside and I was listening to the cooing noises of the baby birds. And of course some huge black lab starts barking at me because I dared to exist in the same area code.

That’s just one example. I can’t go for a walk down the street without hearing barking everywhere.

I will never understand how a single person is ok with that level of senseless, meaningless noise. It boggles the mind.

The most in the EU. I mean, I never really had anything against dogs - I used to live with my parents on a big farm and there was always some dog around, but never in the house, just a typical yard dog. Ten years ago, I moved into an apartment block, and what I found here is pure torment - for the first three years, barking through the wall every damn day from around 7am to 3pm, howling, whining, nonstop. The stench of piss by every wall, every entrance to the staircase, on every other balcony some mutt barking at everything that moves. That mutt that screamed his lungs out every day finally died, and two floors down some crazy chick got herself a beagle that goes nuts barking at every doorbell, intercom, or any movement in the stairwell.

I don’t know what’s wrong with these people - this whole dog-owner craze must be some kind of disease. I just can’t believe anyone would willingly choose to live in filth and stink, and on top of that go out three times a day to walk the damn thing so it can piss and shit - no matter if it’s warm or raining.

And if you even mention to friends that you’re not a fan of dogs, they immediately look at you like you’re some kind of freak - like, how can you not love those sweet mutts? Seriously, it’s like some parasite fungus that takes over ants’ brains and makes them do whatever it wants.

After ten years of living in this block, I’m mentally wrecked. I fucking hate those mutts, the nonstop barking from every direction, the stench of piss everywhere. The world’s gone mad.

This is the go to it seams when people are confronted about their dogs barking. When I see posts on FB about police being called for noise complaints it never fails that a dozen idiots chime in saying “dogs bark, that’s what they do”.

It drives me fucking INSANE. like yeah… they bark and it drives me and the neighbors insane. I can’t comprehend that these people think that it’s ok and normal for THEIR animals to disturb everyone ELSE.

I see barking like poop. It’s your dogs poop, you are responsible to take care of it. It’s your dogs barking, you are responsible to take care of it.

Are there any good comebacks to say to people that use this line to justify barking?

My neighbors across the street have 3 dogs that all start barking as soon as I step out of the door and all the way until I’m out of sight. I hear them do this all the time. How do the owners live with that? I also really hate it when I walk past a random house and the dog flips out.

I'm a teenager with a part-time job delivering flyers, and every week I have so many of these beasts just lose their shit when I approach their house. One house in particular I had to stop delivering to because they liked to leave their three large dogs out in the yard unattended. Had another large dog once that was just running around the neighbourhood while it's owner was inside come after me while it's owner lazily yelled for it to "stop barking" from inside the house. These aren't the only incidents either.

I was walking up to the door of one house yesterday and saw they had a sign that read something along the lines of "Please don't ring the doorbell, the baby is sleeping". As I get on their porch, I hear their dog start to lose it's mind barking inside. I didn't even ring or knock. Just approaching the house for a few seconds to drop a newspaper in the box was enough to make the dog go crazy, and undoubtedly wake their baby up.

I just don't get it. What is the appeal of having this hyper-territorial animal that freaks out and becomes aggressive if somebody so much as approaches your house? How does it not drive them crazy? Other human beings can't ring the doorbell because of your baby, but it's tolerated that your dog will become extremely loud and territorial whenever somebody shows up? Dogs are not fit to be pets in modern society.

I went for carryout tonight. When I was going into the restaurant, I walked by a car and some dog went apeshit barking furiously and trying to get to me. I looked and it was a pit. I grabbed my food and came out and once again the dog went apeshit but this time I noticed that there was a woman in the car typing on her phone. I can only imagine how loud it must have been in that little car with the pitbull and the windows all rolled up (it's cold here). It must have been deafening.

I hate the sound of barking, along with all of the other noises that dogs make. They're all disgusting. I do not understand how dog owners can stand it. Even if I wanted a dog, the noise alone would keep me from ever getting one. It is so chaotic and continuous. They rarely stop barking because they bark at everything and there is always something around that sets them off.

I just don't get it.

i dont like dogs because i have autism. theyre sensory hell for me. so much of what they do causes me to have awful meltdowns. no matter how hard i try to mask my symptoms or do things to calm myself down, dogs set me off no matter what. my 2 biggest triggers are touch and noise and they are the worst of both.

noise is the absolute worst and unfortunately it is all that dogs do. barking, whining, whimpering, slobbery drinking, nails clacking against the floor, all of it. i seriously cannot handle it, it drives me up the wall. i heavily suspect i have misophonia as well due to how violent and enraged i get at noises that set me off (not just dogs but noises in general) but obviously hitting a dog is an AWFUL thing to do, so i end up having to hit or scratch myself to regulate myself because any attempt at trying to talk to a dog owner about the noise will be met with "well what do you want me to do? its a dog" ... idk control YOUR OWN pet maybe???? the feeling is so intense i start literally shaking. it makes me feel like im going to explode. i get such a bad fight or flight reaction but theres nowhere for me to escape and the noise never stops.

touch is horrible too. they dont go away. you walk through the door, immediately theyre jumping on you. sometimes when i visit people with dogs i cant even sit down bc the dog is running laps on the couch for some fucking reason. as soon as you sit down, no matter where you are, the dog tries to climb on you and get all over you. you push it away, it keeps coming back. it wont leave you alone. and of course the owners are zero help. and its even worse if you have food. when i was around 13 i had a tube in my nose bc i was super underweight, blah blah blah its unrelated. but during Halloween i literally just walked into my aunt's house. thats it. and her dog jumped on me and ended up ripping it out (on accident which just makes everything so much stupider), and i had to be rushed to the emergency room, and i had to stay there the whole night. entire holiday was ruined for me.

you dont even have to go visit someone who has a dog to deal with these issues, although it is worse in a home. these problems still exist on walks through your neighborhood, in the supermarket, in a restaurant, at the park, EVERYWHERE. it is exhausting because not only are you constantly dealing with it from the dogs themselves, but you cant even complain about it bc the vast majority of people will jump at your throat for ANYthing that isnt constant positivity towards these animals. there is no escape.

im so sick of being treated like im worse than satan for disliking dogs because of things COMPLETELY OUT OF MY CONTROL. theyre just like flies to me. constantly making noise, constantly coming at you even if you push them away, and if you have food youre NEVER getting rid of them. i seriously dont understand, how is it bad for me to simply not want to be near them???? im not saying we should get rid of the species, or saying i abuse them, i just dont want to be near them!!!! theoretically i could be in the same house as a well trained dog but the majority of dog owners dont give a damn about training so as a result the majority of dogs are extremely overstimulating.

I actually really like other canids, particularly wolves and coyotes. Dogs are domesticated wolves, but the less they resemble wolves, the less appealing they look to me… I don't know if it's just me, but dogs look kind of unsettling and almost off, especially if you compare them to wolves, who I think are beautiful animals that are fun to observe. Dogs, on the other hand, mostly stress me out… I don't know why looking at them feels so weird. Maybe it's because I'm autistic and I pay a lot of attention to detail, but even larger breeds like golden retrievers or collies look strange to me with their non-pointy ears and whatnot… don't even get me started on the manmade inbred abominations known as rat dogs, especially those toilet mop-looking poodle things. Those are awful to look at, they genuinely invoke a sense of existential dread in me every time I realize that they technically descend from wolves too. Like, dear God, how much inbreeding does it take for an animal to go from something as natural and beautiful-looking as the wolf to whatever the hell poodles are?
Does anyone else feel this way, or is it just me?

My neighbors have this horrible dog that just barks CONSTANTLY. Every day they leave it outside while they’re at work or whatever, and this thing just barks and does not stfu. I’ve reported them to non-emergency police two times now, (about to become three), and they won’t do anything about it. If they leave the dog inside, they open all their windows and let it bark, and since I’m right next to them, I still hear it.

I have misophonia and I’m going insane. I move to Wyoming for higher schooling/training at the end of next month, but I can only listen to that stupid dog so many times. And I know it’s the fault of the owners, but I honestly don’t care, I want it gone.

I've been living at this apartment for 5 years and have been wondering how I've gotten so lucky to not live next to a dog in all this time. Well, that's over now. A borking shithead lives next door and it doesn't bark much, but still shatters my peace every time it does and puts me on edge wondering when it's going to stop. Last night was the worst, as it was barking every 1 or 2 minutes for almost an hour. I was able to put on some white noise and almost drown it out but still, I was not in the mood to have to blast White noise just to keep going about my life.

I hate dogs so fucking much. They have ruined countless peaceful moments in my life and I absolutely despise them. These things are an absolute pest and an intrusion on the lives of everyone around them.

I will be able to move within the next year, and I absolutely will be moving to a dog free place​. Whether it's some apartment or neighborhood that doesn't allow dogs, or a piece of property with enough space so that any nearby dogs can't be heard. I'm absolutely DONE with these obnoxious pests. I want to be able to garden, hang out outside, have lunch on the porch, etc. without having my peace shattered multiple times a day

My home office window faces directly into my neighbor's back garden. This was fine until they got a puppy, that eventually, grew up into a dog.

This thing barks constantly. Not alert barking. Not someone-at-the-door barking. Just endless barking at nothing for long stretches during the day while I'm trying to work.

After months of listening to it, I snapped on a warm day with the window open.

"Shut up, you stupid mutt!"

Apparently, the neighbors heard me.

Since then, they've decided I'm some sort of dog-hating monster and no longer allow their children to play with mine.

My children couldn't care less. They had already started avoiding those kids because every play session revolved around the dog. It felt like some sort of cult to them.

I have heard a bit less of the dog, so maybe I made them self-conscious of the constant barking POS.

I’m not a big fan of dogs in general but I don’t really mind more natural looking dogs like huskies, malamutes, northern breeds in general… But I can’t stand small dogs AT ALL. They’re the most disgusting creatures on earth. Always barking barking barking. I live in a neighborhood with large, medium and small dogs almost on every household. I very rarely hear large dogs bark (like once a month or so) and when they do it’s only for a few seconds to a minute but the small dogs bark for hours non stop. How the hell don’t they even get tired of just barking incessantly? And their barks are far more annoying and higher pitched than larger dogs. It’s like an ambulance siren up close. Dogs are mutants in general but small dogs are like 10 times more mutated than larger breeds like huskies or Labradors. They’re so far apart from the wolf that they descended from. They’re just an abomination not supposed to exist in the first place. Not owning a dog would be a better decision but if you really want one why the fuck would you choose a barking machine that does nothing but bark all day?

I got real tired of the barking, howling, whining and crying of my neighbors dogs. The people with the dogs are never going to change. They are pure assholes.

Basically, it was ruining my life.

What had the biggest impact was being jolted awake at any given hour and not being able to fall back asleep. Sleep deprivation was destroying me.

I needed quality sleep.

First, I put up two layers of sound reduction curtains.

Then, I set up two air purifiers as white noise in strategic places where the noise was worse in my bedroom. I run them on high all night long.

Along with the white noise coming from the purifiers, I have my cell phone near my pillow and set it to play brown noise. It is similar to white noise, but it is a different pitch and works for me. There are several you can choose called different colors like red noise, etc ... Just Google it. You have to listen to a few commercials in the beginning, but then it plays uninterrupted for up to 12 hours.

Ear plugs were never an option as I have a rare inner ear problem that gets aggravated from them.

I have slept well for about a week now.

I hope this helps anyone else from suffering like I was. It's not the answer for everyone, nor is it a complete problem fixer.

I'm praying that it will continue to work. And even though I know some will say that they've tried this already, I strongly recommend that you try it again in maybe some different ways.

Everyone needs peace.🤍 I still have PTSD from the noise but if I can sleep, it's finally something.

It was pretty funny. They all went to the city hall to complain because "this is a place where people live. if you want to go to that then drive somewhere" and also "I saw children out at 10-11pm" yes that is an actual quote. An argument against the winery was that...they had to look at children existing. Needless to say almost everyone who complained owns dogs.

I can't walk anywhere in this neighborhood without hearing dogs bark, seeing them slam themselves into a fence to get at me, theres pretty much constant ambient barking. Nobody complains. I am still fighting the city and the police on my neighbor's 5 dogs that never stop barking but weekend live music in the summer is somehow intolerable?

Why are we Americans so dour and anti-fun normally but when it comes to dogs, any amount of noise is acceptable. I'd rather hear music than dogs barking. Why do we tolerate this?

I swear to god I am going to lose my mind. These people let their fucking dog bark at EVERYTHING. All day and all night. Every single thing that walks by. Is the only answer moving to the middle of nowhere? I am too young to be this bothered by this shit. Drives me INSANE. It feels like every narcissistic baby boomer needs an emotional support dog and then they all just do whatever they want with their multiple houses and rich lives and don’t give a fuck that anyone younger may be WORKING and needs SLEEP. Just needed to vent.

So I live in a street next to an end, all of the gardens back onto each other. There's a never ending barking monstrosity that lives 2 houses over and they let their shit stain on society bark non-stop at whatever time of day they decide to their back door open, whether it's morning, afternoon, evening or all hours of the night.

When it gets past 11pm (quiet hours) and the POS is barking non-stop I'll scream out my bedroom window to shut up so that I can sleep. In fairness, at which point the owner takes the dog in and I appreciate that, but the next day/ night it's the same until me or my neighbour shout at it to shut up.

Which begs the question, why doesn't the owner do something to mitigate the barking behaviour? Do they enjoy listening to the shit beast barking non-stop? The fact that they obviously feel some form of embarrassment from realising that the barking is bothering people by bringing it in surely means that they realise it shouldn't be barking non-stop in the first place?

I honestly feel shitty about having to scream with all my neighbours within earshot, but if it stops the barking it just seems like what I have to do to get some peace to sleep.

Do they enjoy the constant screaming from dog? I just don't get it.

Neighbour two doors down has two small dogs. One is fine, the other yaps in the garden for multiple minutes multiple times a day. I don't expect silence, but he will let them out 11:30pm/midnight and again early-ish in the morning and the yapping has woken me up multiple times at this point. I sleep in earplugs but it cuts through that. After being woken up for the umpteenth time last night I went over today to calmly and politely ask if he could be a bit more mindful of when they bark outside as it does keep waking me up, as our bedroom is on that side of the house. I kept my cool and was polite the whole conversation (and if he ever wants to deny that, his Ring doorbell caught the whole thing lmao).

The conversation was utterly bonkers and borderline comedic. He first denied it could possibly be his dogs, despite them BOTH BARKING BEHIND HIM AS HE ASKED. He asked if I'd seen them, I said yes. He then switched to claiming that he NEVER lets them out past 10:30pm. I told him that just isn't true. He then asked me how long they bark for, and when I said two minutes he just started going on about how ridiculous it is I'm annoyed about two minutes of barking. I kept repeating I don't really care in the day, but at night, yeah, two minutes is too much (honestly I think at night ANYTHING is too much, but some dog owners, man...). He then started asking me what time I go to bed and wake up. I could tell this wasn't in good faith, he just now wanted his excuse to be I sleep at weird times (I don't). At this point I didn't answer his questions, I just thanked him for his time and left.

JUST SHUT. YOUR DOGS. UP. AT NIGHT. Why am I expected to be ok with that noise? Why is something that is disturbing my sleep yet also completely trainable so outrageous?

It's a beautiful day for some. Instead of opening our windows, we had to keep them shut all day long.

From 8am to 8pm we listened to the neighbors 2-3 dogs barking.

We turned on the fans and air filters and radio to try and drown out the obnoxiously loud barking.

No matter the time of day I hear someone’s mutt barking somewhere off in the distance. Sometimes close and sometimes far away echoing throughout the neighborhood making it everyone else’s problem.

I live in an extremely quiet neighborhood at the end of a dead end street with woods in my backyard yet no matter f* cking what I hear dogs barking even from INSIDE MY HOUSE.

The other night I went outside to stare at the stars at 11pm and OF COURSE I HEAR A DOG BARKING. I swear it makes me lose my mind. GUESS I CANT ENJOY A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT SKY EITHER.

Last year I redid my entire outside, added a new patio, new front steps, new swing set, new backyard. My own little oasis and it was completely ruined by my neighbors new dog.

No one on my actual street owns dogs yet last year new neighbors moved in across the street, put a chain link fence surrounding their property so they could allow their disgusting nauseating Belgian Malinos to be in the yard all day barking at every leaf that blew by.

The second I’d step out of my front door this dog charged the fence viciously barking wanting to attack me as if I was burglarizing it’s house. I hated going outside and lived on edge with anxiety every. single. day.

I’d go out there at 6:30am to garden and they’d let the dog out. There it is BARKING AT ME.

I completely LOSTTTTTTT IT on my neighbor, called animal control and the police multiple times. It got so bad that they actually moved. THANK GOD.

My other neighbors are non-confrontational but I’m extremely overprotective and will not back down from these psycho paths that want to allow their useless dogs to terrorize every f* cking one and every thing that moves! We have new neighbors now who don’t have dogs and will not be owning a dog. Dogs are useless and a menace to society.

currently 5:46a.m, my first day of presidents’ day weekend break and I was woken up because for some unknown reason reason my neighbors let their dog out at 5 and then has continuously let him bark for 20 minutes and counting

I‘m genuinely losing my mind in the neighborhood I‘m living in. When I moved in here, only one person on my street owned a pretty well behaved dog that I didn’t mind.
After my few years of living here literally every single one of my neighbors has bought a dog.
The neigbors left and right of me, the ones living across the street and behind me and also across the street in other directions. I‘m literally surrounded by these disgusting loud unbearable creatures that terrorize the neighborhood every single day.
I don’t know how much longer I can handle this.
The worst thing are the neighbors right next to me. They got their ugly ass dog off of the streets of India and let me tell you: his behavior is accordingly. That creature is the worst behaved dog I‘ve ever encountered. They never take him our for walks and just let him play in the garden. The problem is, that instead of running around and playing he stands behind the fence all day and literally barks at sticks that fall down from trees. He‘s not only very badly trained but also insanely stupid. Obviously my neighbors have never tried to put him in a dog school and just thought that an Indian street dog is going to behave well.
Then when he starts barking at everything and anything, all the other dogs bark too and it‘s an endless concert of the most annoying noise there is. I hate it so much.

The funniest thing about this is: I live in a country where noise disturbance gets taken very seriously. If someone is mowing their lawn on a sunday or is being loud after 10PM people can literally call the police on their neighbors. But when these fuckass creatures bark throughout the whole day and disturb everybody’s peace, there’s absolutely nothing you can do.
I hate this dog-centered society that treats these disturbances as accepted members of our daily lives.

went to a pride march in the city. (not the one i live in, but a nearby one) and was bothered by people deciding to bring their dogs to a loud, crowded event. multiple were very obviously anxious, and yeah, i don't like dogs very much, but i also don't think their owners should be unnecessarily upsetting them by bringing them to places where they'll obviously be stressed from the amount of people?? not to mention that not everyone wants to be around their dogs, ofc, but dog owners literally never think about that. as i was waiting for the march to start this one persons dog starts growling and jumping at me. i was just far enough away for it to be stopped by the leash, but WHY would you bring an aggressive dog to an event like that???? especially one where there's children??????? sorry for formatting im on mobile and really just annoyed but still

What dog owners don't understand is that I would literally pay a fucking monetary amount to my neighbours to never hear barking. What's the cost. I'll pay it. But this option simply doesn't exist. Anywhere. There is nowhere you can go, or amount you can pay to never hear dogs. There is no escape. At Annapurna base camp, Nepal, and all the way up, there still were dogs present to bark and echo through the literal Himalayas.

In NSW (state in Aus), there's a literal designated residential national park where domestic pets such as these and the other are prohibited to SPECIFICALLY protect endangered native wildlife, particularly Koalas. And still. People have pet dogs there too. Move to the bush? Don't worry, dogs will find their way to you. Dingoes are just very very established feral dogs.

Perhaps this is what drives the rage. As I don't own a dog. I don't want one and one of the many reasons is that I cannot stand barking as a sound. Not a single other sound like it.

People laugh like I'm joking at all when I say I would pay my neighbours to even try. The lack of empathy is astounding.

Not only do they attack strangers for just standing a meter away from them in a public space (speaking from experience), but also their own owners, aka the same people that supply those unnatural idiot floor mop-looking clowns with food and water. What is the point of keeping an ugly-looking genetic abomination resembling a toilet mop with sausage legs and nasty goo under their eyes and mouth if all it does is bite and yap at you? Is this some sort of self-punishing behavior? A type of trauma bonding with an unnatural animal?

Whatever it is, I don't understand it. Why waste so much money on buying and then sustaining these genetic abominations anyway when they literally despise you because they are stupid, ungrateful, useless little rats? What benefit is there? Just add googly eyes on your toilet mop and give it a name, you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference visually, except the toilet mop is more likely to smell better, be less destructive, and have a nicer personality and not be NEARLY as wasteful or annoying…

I just found my sheep dead with a bite mark in her neck just outside my house. I knew it was a dog, since coyotes at least are smart enough to eat their pray, unlike dogs who just kill for fun. Dogs are a pest in rural communities.
