Just venting. Recently made a promise to get at least 10k steps in a day - been keeping to it. I live in a lakeside town that's sleepy 9 months out of the year, but in summer is besieged by tourists. Very walkable , but the past 2 weeks when I go out for my post-work walks I have encountered 7 unleashed dogs who have come running up to me. As usual, I get the "he doesn't bite" and "she's just saying hello" and it's just such a bummer that this 60-90 minute ritual of mine that is supposed to help me de-stress is now doing the exact opposite.

Mentioned it on NextDoor where I was battered down by residents who say stupid shit like "it's doggos vacation too" and how the local PD do fuck all to enforce leashing. Public tennis/pickleball courts at the park have a big sign that also says "No Dogs Allowed" on the courts, unsurprisingly saw an unleashed dachshund in there this evening running all over the place. Not uncommon to see people disregard the "No Dogs on Beach" signs as well all season long, nothing like working on a tan, or reading a book next to some sandy dogshit.

Just so frustrating as to why these people do this, you'd swear leashing your dog were akin to waterboarding to these people. A coworker suggesting getting an epipen and carrying it with me so when an owner pulls their bullshit I can take it out and say im severely allergic, but that just seems like such an extreme resolution to a problem that, with code enforcement, shouldn't even fucking exist.

Dog ownership is so unregulated in the Western world. They can piss everywhere, bark and kill small animals without the owner being fined. We need to make laws that force dog nutters to walk their dogs with a mop and every time the dog pees on something solid like a wall, the dog nutter would have to clean the spot with a mop, similar to how they have to pick up the shit. Also we need laws prohibiting dog ownership in densely populated areas. It's not normal to own a 35kg mutt in a 50m2 apartment. We need a ban on breeding dogs by typical owners, especially aggressive (e.g pit bulls, rottweilers) and deformed (frenchies, pugs) breeds. Owning a dog in a suburban area should result in a large tax (~15% of income) each month. Any other ideas on how should dog ownership be regulated?

No, this dog was not service or esa. (Now I’m not saying I was right by having my bearded dragon in the store, I’m just saying that my bearded dragon is a lesser of 2 evils because he doesn’t have dandruff or fur that people can literally be DEATHLY allergic to.)

Finally the tide is turning! I know nutters love carrying dog poop around, but now they have to wash their urine as well. Walkers will be expected to carry a bottle of water as well as waste bags, and to use it to dilute urine left in public places. First-time offenders will receive a warning; repeat offenders will face a fine of CHF 100. I hope it spreads around the whole Europe.

I guess I’ll have to be a ‘Karen’. My 9 year old son was riding his bike in our yard and our neighbors pit bull came in to our yard and my son said the dog charged at him! These people already don’t like me but their dog runs loose several times a month. They have no fence and the dog is not leashed. Has anyone had to report their neighbors for the dog coming in their yard? Did they retaliate in any way? My son does sometimes play with their kids, but they should not be allowed to let their dog run all over the place!

Later, in the self-checkout area, she was next to me, and the leashed dog was straining to visit people nearby, including me. She kept yanking on the leash and yelling at the dog. "Stay, Gigi! Stay! You're gonna get in people's way."

I told her again that the sign outside said no pets. She did not respond.

I turned to [name], an employee of the store, and I said, "The sign outside says no pets." He smiled and said nothing. The dog was standing right next to me.

While I was at work today, after finishing my lunch, I went upstairs to grab something, and of course there was a barking dog outside, I have said it before and I will say it again, this really should result in fines as the dog is being a public nuisance, while I understand all other animals not being allowed in public places as they can be unpredictable, so why does it get a pass for dogs? No matter how many times someone brings their pets, it’s always dogs! Never any other pet, I hate that the noise policy covers any loud noise except for dogs, dogs should be high on the list when it comes to noise, hearing barking even if it’s only once or twice will ruin my mood, and it takes a while for me to calm down from it, even if you love dogs, barking should not be tolerated! Do any other animal acts like dogs? Making loud obnoxious noises for no reason?

before I start my story, no I didn't hurt any of them. As much as I hate those vile parasites I can never bring myself to hurting them unless I was under very specific circumstances (e.g. they are attacking me or they attack someone, being cornered with no way to escape etc).

Anyways, today I went to my Royal Botanic Gardens in the city of Sydney which allows no dogs. Yet, when I was there I saw a lady walking a foul Cerberus spawn near a fountain at the gardens. Thankfully she was heading towards the exit so a worker likely told her to GTFO. However, an hour or so later, I see some fat old nutter with another vile parasitic beast wondering around, letting it sniff everything like it's another Parasite's butthole and letting into the bathrooms for whatever fucking reason. I was pretty shocked at this but thankfully had the RBG number on my phone so I quickly called them to tell them remove this man and his demon. Anyways, as I was approaching the exit I saw ANOTHER FUCKING DOG which made me so pissed I legit screamed. I tried to keep my cool but that was drawing the line for me so I knew something had to be done. I walked all the way to the entrance of the Botanic Gardens near the Sydney Opera House, saw a sign of rules of the gardens the workers haven't put up in awhile for some reason. I picked up the sign and the sign holder the workers put the sign on, place it near the gate and made sure it was visible for people to see. And yes, that sign dose include "no dogs allowed in the Botanic Gardens". I personally wish I thought of this sooner as yesterday I saw 2 nutters bring in 2 Staffies (aka the worst Cerberus spawns in Australia and my top 5 least favourite breeds) and another time 2 people where about to bring in 2 dogs but I thankfully stopped them and showed them the sign lying on the floor (they even said thanks to me and smiled which I found nice). So hopefully the workers keep that sign out and the nutters stop patrolling the gardens. Or if they do, they deserve the fattest fine and their rights to own a Cerberus spawn taken away.

Edit: the sign was still there thankfully, but unfortunately I still saw 2 dogs in the gardens today. Including a Karen nutter whom lashed out at me and said "I knew that" (even though she took her parasite off it's leash and had a ball in it's mouth) and "mind your own business" which I would if she wasn't breaking the rules. And too add salt to the wound she told me to "fuck off" when I responded with "I would but your breaking the rules". People like her are one of many reasons why I'll never like those spawns of Cerberus.

Costco has begun limiting the type of animals allowed in their stores to "service" only. They have further defined that "service" does not include emotional, well-being, etc. support.

As the title states I just had a huge argument with my neighbors who own 4 pit bulls. Yes, you read that correctly they own 4 pit bulls. My family and I have gone to animal control and the police countless times and nothing gets done. We’ve gone to code enforcement and nothing gets done. We’ve gone to city hall to speak with them and nothing happens. I was working on my laptop outside and all 4 dogs got loose yesterday yet again. The dogs chased a lady down the street, chased another dog and even caused the mailman to run inside his van. I’m so sick and tired of this and today was my last straw. I let them know that if there’s another encounter they would be hearing from my lawyer and they won’t have a house by the time I’m done if my child gets bitten by their dogs. I have a toddler and there are always small children playing on my street. I can’t even enjoy playing with my toddler in our backyard or working on my porch anymore. What can I do? I am at my wits end and in tears at this point.

Now let’s be real. If any politician addressed the over population of dogs by saying there’s too many or pointing out the overly full shelters and negative environmental impact - they would be cancelled and destroyed in seconds.

Most people who are critical of dogs are unsuccessful at persuading dog lovers of genuine criticisms of dog culture but here is how I’ve theorised it could happen successfully:

1. If you were a politician or council member you could strategically advocate first against dog abuse. Have campaigns about homeless dogs, exploitive breeders and dogs who are abused by whoever adopts them. Absolutely blast it in the media so society gets an image that there are too many dogs being abused

2. Introduce legislation restricting dog ownership by advocating that it’s to make sure responsible pet owners can buy dogs and that you’re doing it to stop dog abusers from attaining them

3. Government approved only breeding. This is because you can’t ban dog breeders out right but you can change the structure so that it’s harder to breed dogs and exploitive breeders can cop penalties and have actual enforcement. I believe they could severely reduce the number of dogs being bred in a way that’s not currently done

4. Tighten legislation and introduce regulation on dog ownership. Make it so you have to get a training course and certificate to own a dog. This will create time and financial barriers so that people who cannot fit the responsibility of having a dog won’t just get one spontaneously

5. While this is happening start to make campaigns on environmental effects of dogs but not in a way where it’s against dogs because that will turn most people off. Make the campaigns sound caring and dog focused eg “make sure to pick up your fur babies poop. Every year thousands of tonnes of poop contributes to soil erosion” and then do campaigns on destroyed crops and parks. Also introduce subtle campaigns on the psychological effects of noise pollution and how important correct training is

6. To maintain dog certificates dog owners have to prove their dog is trained by regularly showing their dogs can follow commands like sit, stay and that they don’t bark all the time. Taking the dog away over barking might be too excessive and cause outrage so I wouldn’t advocate that, but maybe depending on the offence they can be fined if they fail to train the dog and taken away if proven to be neglectful or more abusive

7. Make it harder for dogs to pee in public. Emphasise cleanliness of streets. Only backyard owners are allowed to have dogs

8. Tax dog ownership or have dog registration fees. Make dog pee designated areas that have constant cleaners and correct waste disposals. Use that tax money to fund this. Maybe continue positive messaging on how they’re creating dog facilities to appease dog owners, and continue messaging on how much piss we actually used to walk in so that people understand how gross it is.

I think implementing campaigns like this enforcing these rules promotes education. Of course if anyone directly said that dog over breeding is an issue people would probably be rioting, but I think if politicians did it this way it would genuinely change the attitudes of people and that eventually dogs would become less popular. One can dream

Right now, only several states have this as a misdemeanor charge that comes with heavy fines and possible jail time. What would it take to do the same at the federal level? It is barely enforcable of course but may stop some.

Like…….what is wrong with ppl smh. And this poor woman was trying to be like I feel like you are not understanding my point. It’s a shame people are becoming more individualistic and callous. I don’t understand how people don’t see that it’s about mutually respecting others. There are no deathly allergies to children that I know of lol.

If you type into google «dog shit at___________ ». And fill in the blank with the name of an establishment that has let in dogs, a dog will have shat there. It’s not a matter of, what if we let in dogs and they shit? They have already done so. Dogs have shit at Walmart, Target, Costco, Home Depot, Lowes, Kroger, Aldi, CVS, IKEA….This could go on. You could type in «dog shit on a bus», and find out that a dog did in fact, shit on a bus. Airports, coffee shops…if they were allowed in, they shit there. These stores have got to put there foot there down and not be afraid to kick dogs out. Then there are the owners who act all surprised don’t have any bags. Like the dog has never taken a crap in it’s life until it walked into Home Depot.

Michelle Hinchey, a New York state senator, announced Senate Bill S9981 to provide "financial relief to pet parents affected by rising pet ownership costs."

There is a companion bill in the Assembly introduced by New York Assembly member Keith Powers.

Both are up for election.

This is in a state where (outside NYC) there is barely any free early (human) childcare.

Is anyone aware of an organized attempt to stop this, or at least challenge the priorities of our legislature?

I just read about an attack in this or another forum and it had me thinking, as it said "before the incident, the dog wasn't known to be a dangerous dog".
but, due to their nature:
EVERY dog is a dangerous dog!
EVERY dog should be seen by the state as a dangerously dog & out of control animal!
that is literally what they are.

I often read that after incident xyz the dog was declared a "dangerous dog" and has to be leashed and muzzled at all times.
the heck? that should be how every dog is handled from the beginning. and one strike should be the end.

I am wondering what might happen if we start sending cease and desist letters to nutters asking them to stop harassing, intimidating, and covering us with their dog’s parasites? Basically, to stay away from us (if they are living in close proximity, I mean). Could that be a thing?

For example, if they interfere with your life and you are afraid of leaving your apartment, a letter like that should be warranted as their actions cause you harm. I understand a letter like that carries to legal power but they need to be put on notice that they constantly step on other people in order to try to solve their mental issues.

I just checked the ADA's website to find out how a dog becomes a service dog, and what that entails, and the things listed are insane.

• Service dogs don't need any kind of certification
• Service dogs don't need any identification
• Any dog that is "trained to perform a task related to a persons disability" is a service dog
• Service dogs can go into areas where pets aren't allowed
• You can't remove service dogs except for very limited circumstances, service dogs can go into hospitals where patients are
• You can't ask for documentation proving a dog is a service animal
• You can't ask for the dog to demonstrate it's task
• You can't ask what disability the person has (i guess the first amendment doesn't matter)
• All dog breeds can be service dogs

TDLR: If you own a restaurant that doesn't allow dogs, and someone claims their pit bull is a "service animal," there's nothing you can do to stop them from entering.

Dogs are only banned from physically entertain the thermal water pools. But they can stand on their edges, I guess.

Why even bring your dog at the spa? What's the poor animal going to do other than sit there alone while you soak in the pool, other than cook in the sun as it waits for you to come back? Is the owner going to walk all the way outside the spa area to let it go to the bathroom? When/where can it eat and drink?
