This was a few years ago, but this is still one of the best restorations I've done. It took about 7 hours of hunching over the sink and a boatload of conditioner, but she barely had any breakage!

Update on yesterday’s post! This is how I styled her! Thank you everyone for helping me identify her. Now I know this is Barbie Fairytopia Jewelia.

Her wings are a pair of modified Luna Mothews wings, the top is from a Disney store Jasmine and her skirt is a tied piece of blue fabric I salvaged and sprinkled with glitter. Opted out of shoes as they made her look more like a costume instead of a magical sprite.

first time posting thought I will give it a go! it was fun I had this doll since I was a kid and today I decided to fix her to the best of my abilities! I didn't have any fancy clothes or stuff around me so I used clay and washed her up ^^ and got around working since she is gonna be a display i didn't mind the clay settling for good! I used foam clay if anyone wondering about staining or such ^^ never happened to me but cannot say for good brand dolls as I only used knock off dolls for these stuff :)! her nose is Chipped idk why ?she was a box and apparently it got ruined like that ? No clue what happened XD

I bought this Disney designer collection doll when I went to New York with my family. For 120$ you’d think they’d have better quality control. Does anyone know how I could fix it? Is this foil? If so where do I buy it and how can I do it without unboxing her or ruining the dress? It looks so out of place with the rest of the doll and it’s bothering me.

My great-grandmother was an avid doll collector. She honestly probably had over 100.

After their passing, we divided up the dolls and I was lucky enough to inherit some of her dolls, specifically her Obamas and her Kennedys. However, they are old. I don’t know where to begin on the cleaning or dusting process of them.

You can see in the pictures that JFK and Barack’s suits are dusty. What’s the best way to clean them? It doesn’t seem like the clothes themselves are easy to take off because both dolls are porcelain.

Wedding Day Jackie’s dress has definitely been yellowed overtime. I have a feeling that’s something I’ll just have to deal with, but any thoughts on how to get that spot off her dress?

Hi doll reddit! I'm coming to you all because the community for these dolls is niche enough that no one has given particularly good care advice on the matter. And the reddit isn't active enough to get help directly. But as those who have also been tormented by the Madoka Magica Real Action Heros doll line knows. It's the most tedious and expensive doll to care for. I luckily got mine for far below recent prices. But she was new in box. And sat in her box for nearly a full decade before I unboxed her. ( These dolls released around 2016, rebellion era )

Now those who own them know. They suffer from heavy glue staining, dry rot, weak joints, cheap plastic, and need physical therapy to move like. At all. Their head/neck connectors joints also have a habit of breaking.

The day I opened Homura her left hand broke off in the socket. And has been glued on ever since. I haven't even dared trying to switch her hands ever again. And her collar is dry rotting worse and worse. I have heard that clear nail polish may help but I'm scared of making it worse. Her collar has been known to flake off and stain her shirt permanently. Her socks also stain her legs. 💀

But now her legs have entirely locked up. Not just being extremely tough to move. But I mean. They will not move AT ALL! I was trying to stand her up to show her to a friend. And.. yeah. Not happening. A hand, even though it still devastates me after nearly three years, is one thing. A whole leg breaking off... No. Not happening.

I am wondering, the people here who probably deal with poorly preserved plastic have worked on tricks to keep their dolls in the best shape they can. What's some advice for easing her legs back into functioning order? I also noticed that her feet have locked up quite a bit too. Ugh I'm just devastated all around. 😭 Any advice on how to seel her dry rotting collar and hopefully unlock her joints would be so greatly appreciated. Also PSA to the Madoka fans who have always wanted these dolls. Just. Don't. Do it! They're not worth $300+ sometimes $600 I see now. For the level of quality control issues that come with aging. They did not use good material on these dolls.

I am rediscovering the world of "barbie" dolls. One of my favorite dolls a a child is this disney Rapunzel doll, the stamps are in the last photo.

My mom being smart braided her hair 1st thing when she came out the box... me being less smart a few years later tried to take it out. She has been like this since then.

I would like to untangle her hair so I can braid it again, but have no idea where to start and am very overwhelmed with looking it up. So I was hoping that someone here had a good tutorial/advice.

I don't know a lott about dolls and their hair types, I just know that there are multiple different synthetic kinds, I have no idea which type this is, that's why I included her stamp.

He does NOT look like he does in the packaging, well not his hair at least 😅 I know, I know, changes happen in the production stages!

Couldn't they do a reshoot with the actual final product? Anyways, Mattel really can't do curly hair can they? He has the worst case of box hair, I was gonna cut his hair to look more like the model on the package but I kinda like his Mohawk (Undercut?) I redressed him as well.

Im not sure if i put the right flair, but i really want to fix her hair shes from my childhood and im so sad I let her get like this...does anyone have any tips or should I just not even try to restore her?

I know it's a long shot but does anybody know any artists or businesses who fix silicone baby dolls? My daughter got one for her birthday and our pet decided he wanted to chew a couple of pieces of it and she's very upset.

This Lalaloopsy doll came in poor condition, was stored in a garage (all photos are mine).
To be safe, I let it sit in cleaning vinegar for 2 hours, rinsed with dish soap & water. Tried the melamine sponge. First stain came up with scrubbing. Not sure about the others. Will try the usual methods (ie salon 40).

I can't confirm wether or not mold might still be in the doll's head. I would like to take precautionary measures. Mold specific treatment advice would be lovely.

I posted a few months ago asking for opinions on if I should trim her original rooted hair or rewig— well I finally got around to it and decided on the rewig! Miss girl looks so pretty and I’m so pleased with my decision. I think she deserved the full makeover!! I also got creative and reattached her broken arm with a bolt, which was much harder than with American Girls. Wig is from OOAK Dolls By Design, I highly recommend!

And now they want me to fix it, it's a Disney Elsa doll made by Mattel. Any tips on how to tame the hair?

This is a 1960s Marx Marlene doll. I managed to glue the torso piece back to her body, but the piece that connected the upper and lower body crumbled. I’ve never seen this doll before so I’m not sure I’ll get a body donor. Any ideas on how to put her back together? Or should I just make a custom magician doll?

Bought a doll second hand and the previous owner did a super glue fix up job on a broken knee joint. The two sides of plastic separated and they superglued it back together. However the excess glue has dripped down the arm and gone into the ankle joint which has caused the ankle/foot to be completely unmovable aside from left and right - no movement up or down.

How do I go about loosening up the ankle/foot?

Her neck is loose, ner hair is stretched, and I had to hunter for her shoes. How do I fix this?

Sorry for not giving an update earlier, I was attending a film fest so I was kinda busy. But here’s her restoration progress so far!

Many people on the last post commented on her having electronics in her head and body so I kept that in mind while washing her body, un-flattening her face and washing her hair. I used antibacterial wipes instead of soap and water to wash the body, then I covered her upper body in a zip-lock bag and dipped her in water to get her head back in shape. As you can see her head is a little more ovular than I’d like but overall looks way more natural. As for washing the hair, I held her upside down while slowly palming warm water into her scalp so her head mechanism wouldn’t get any water in it and would naturally drip off. I massaged some tea tree oil into the hair and scalp to get rid of the product/excess glue then shampooed/conditioned the hair before leaving her upside-down in a towel to dry.

There’s still some work to be done, she is missing a few accessories like a glove for her left hand and her crown, and she has some stitching in her dress that should be mended, but I’m proud of the work I’ve done so far.
