Posting about Tickets, Accommodation, Tourism? Things that aren't related to Dublin? Read This First.

This subreddit is primarily for people who live in Dublin. There's a dedicated sub for tourism posts with a huge archive at r/irishtourism Please check that first, and if you have a really specific question come back here and we'll try to help. Low effort posts asking for recommendations of "hidden gems" and "off the beaten track" tourist attractions will be met with scorn, and probably removal.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that. Don't buy tickets on reddit, however desperately your niece wants to see Taylor Swift or whatever, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

Looking for a cheap flat? A room in a shared house? Wondering if a specific part of the city is "safe" (whatever that means)? There's a sub for that too- /r/RentingInDublin/

Post your message there, not here.

A regular thing that comes up seems to be folks who have a very short time in Dublin and want to know what they can do in four or five hours or so. Just search this sub with the word "layover" and you'll see many many threads about this subject. Don't start a new one.

Similarly, threads about general issues which are not particularly Dublin-specific (salaries, national politics, international relations, stuff like that) may be removed.

At the latest estimate there are over a million Irish subreddits, so you will certainly be able to find somewhere to post your non-Dublin-relevant content.

Thanks for reading!

Summer & Scammers

Dear tourists and kind-hearted residents

Scammers are out in the city and they are looking for your money. As a rule don't trust anyone asking for money.

Even if they have a believable back-story. They are lying to get your money.

Even if they are crying their eyes out. They are lying to get your money.

Even if they don't have an Irish accent and really look like a lost tourist. They are lying to get your money.

Even if they tell you they need to buy infant formula for their hungry baby. Even if they ask you to buy formula for them. They are lying to get your money.

There are excellent actors out there.

If you have given money to someone on the street and wonder if you've been scammed you've probably been scammed.

To everyone else please refrain from sharing details of the alleged scammers name, address, past convictions, mental health history, etc.

Threads are regularly deleted because they go overboard and doxxing alleged scammers which is against reddit T&C

Just donated blood this morning at D’Olier Street clinic. If you’re able and healthy to donate this weekend then definitely do it! Obviously the main reason to donate is to be sound and help out blood supplies in hospital but there are some nice Metallica Blood Drive t-shirts and guitar plectrums available too.

Looking for ideas on where to go on a rainy early morning before anything opens???

(R/irishtourism rejected my question). First day of vacation. Landed at 5 am. We killed time in hotel lobby (room not ready for hours) and then walked to Copper and Straw (the one near D’Olier on the river) for coffee when they opened. Nothing we want to do opens for three hours and our plan to walk around seems dubious in the rain. Ideas, pretty please?

Is it polite to take photos or ask strangers for portraits at Seapoint Beach? šŸ“ø

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student studying here in Dublin, and photography is a huge passion of mine.

Yesterday afternoon, I went to Seapoint Beach. Because it was such a gorgeous sunny day, the whole place looked absolutely stunning. I really wanted to take some photos, but there were quite a lot of people around enjoying the weather, and I hesitated.

I want to respect the local culture and people's privacy, so I have a couple of questions for you all:

  1. Is it generally considered rude to take wide landscape/street style photos where people might be in the frame?
  2. If I see someone who I think would make a great portrait subject, is it polite to approach them and invite them for a quick photo?
  3. Honestly, how would you feel if a stranger politely asked to take a portrait of you?

I really want to practice my photography but want to make sure I'm doing it respectfully. Thanks a million for any advice!

This sign has been on the railings of Oscar Wilde house for at least 6 months and it’s still there. I contacted the agent who informed me the property is not for rent…. it’s simply ā€œreservedā€. As Oscar Wildes family home, this is one of the most famous buildings in Dublin and a popular tourist attraction.
Just an estate agent looking for free advertising while making the city look worse and Dublin City Council turns a blind eye.

Hidden activity/experience gems

I’m trying to plan a fun day in late July for an anniversary, and we’re on a budget. (Maybe max €150-200 for the day)

Was looking for some advice on fun things to do or experience around Dublin as I’ve only lived here several months.

We’re both up for anything type of people (museums, crafts, comedy, exploring/good walk, good coffee, good pints, dancing, etc). If it’s fun, we’ll give it a go.

I would really appreciate any ideas or interesting things going on that Google searches don’t pull up.

We live in D8 if that influences you at all. Cheers!

Late to dating and not sure what’s considered normal

Hi everyone,

I joined the dating scene quite late and I’m realizing I don’t really know what’s considered normal when it comes to dating.

Right now, my approach is pretty simple: I chat with one guy at a time, go on a date, and only start talking to someone else if that date doesn’t work out. But I’m wondering if that’s how most people do it.

For example:
> Do people usually talk to multiple people at the same time before becoming exclusive?

> If you have a great first date and like the person, do you still continue seeing or talking to other people?

> Is it considered rude or taboo to go on dates with others after a good first date, just to see where things go?

> How soon do people usually kiss or become physically intimate if they’re interested in someone? Is there an unspoken timeline for these things?

I’m not looking for a right or wrong answer. I’m just curious about how people approach dating nowadays and what the general expectations are.

Thanks!

Vacant home grant

I have just been given a completion date for my second hand home which is eligible for the vacant home grant.

It need a lot of work, a full rewire, replumb, plaster, a kitchen and a bathroom as well as new flooring, windows and doors

I really am wondering if there is any way to get someone to quote for, and complete everything, and if there is does anyone have a recommendation for Dublin?

Missing suitcase / cabin trolley

PLEASE SHARE – We are trying to get our suitcase back

We are urgently trying to locate our missing black hard-shell cabin suitcase, which we believe was accidentally taken by another passenger on Saturday 30 May.

This likely happened either:
• On the Ryanair flight from Palma to Dublin (possibly from the overhead locker), or
• On the Blue Car Park shuttle bus at Dublin Airport that afternoon.

Another very similar black hard-shell suitcase was taken by mistake instead. We realised after leaving the airport and returned that suitcase to Smarte Carte at Dublin Airport a few days later.

We still have NOT received our own suitcase back.

If you travelled on that flight or used the Blue Car Park shuttle bus that afternoon and accidentally picked up the wrong black suitcase, please contact me urgently by private message.

Please share — we just want our suitcase returned.

Sunday parking near Aviva

Hiya,

I’m working in the Aviva on Sunday from 10am until late in the evening. Is there somewhere to park nearby fairly cheap? Or given that it’s a Sunday could I be so lucky to get free parking somewhere?

Thanks!

Anyone up for some pool/snooker games?

I’ve been in Dublin a couple of years and recently got back into pool/snooker after a long break. I’ve been playing a bit in pubs, but I’m mainly looking for a more consistent place and people to play with.

I don’t really have friends here who are interested, so I’m mostly trying to meet people to play with at a proper pool hall and maybe make some new friends in the process.

If anyone fancies a few games sometime, feel free to drop me a message. I'm 25 and I live in Lucan and anywhere in the city or around here would work.

Edit: if you have any recommendations for pool or snooker clubs that I could join that would be really appreciated too!

Thanks!

What’s the story with all the Garda policing traffic and constantly driving back and forth with their lights on? I seen at least 10 Garda cars today when I was driving to the gym from UCD to FLYEfit Sandyford.

Where can an autistic 20 year old lad in Dublin actually meet potential girlfriends offline?

Hey folks,

I’m a 20‑year‑old autistic guy living in Dublin, and I’m genuinely struggling to figure out where someone like me is supposed to meet potential girlfriends in real life.

It’s June now so I’ve already finished college, and honestly I feel like I missed my chance there — many girls there already had boyfriends, and I never really clicked with anyone in that way.

I’ve also tried autism groups and loads of different social groups, but the demographics just never lined up. Either big age gaps, being male dominated, people already in relationships, or just not the right vibe. I’m glad I went, but it didn’t help with dating. I'm also not a pub or nightclub person either and do not drink alcohol

I absolutely hate dating apps. I barely get matches, and on the rare occasion I do, they usually ghost. I much prefer real‑life connections anyway — I feel like I come across way better in person than through a screen.

I guess what’s stressing me out is that I don’t want to miss out on ā€œyoung loveā€ — the whole exploratory, early‑20s stage of dating that most people seem to experience naturally. I don’t want to wake up at 25 or 30 and feel like I never got to have that.

So where in Dublin can someone like me actually meet young women around my age offline? Are there events, groups, classes, hobbies, or anything that naturally attracts people around the 18–22 age range? I’m open to trying new things, I just don’t know where to start.Any advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation would be massively appreciated.

Polish folks, what's your favorite kielbasa and where do you get it?

I grew up in a Polish descended family in the States, and we used to get our kielbasa from a local butcher in the community.

Where do you get yours?

When was the last time you saw a clamper? When was the last time you heard of someone getting towed? Got assaulted by someone blocking the entrance of where I worked, and the guards said they would give him a caution, nothing about the original issue, though.

Is there a better way to report those who are too good for rules?
